I was preparing an auction and found this poor Dobies Bridge VIC transit/rec mark. March '06.

ImageImage

Changed to Dobies sometime - then ?
From Phoenix PO finder:

Renamed Dobies PO 29/9/09. TO 1/6/53. Closed 17/7/61.

Not sure what TO means. I suspect telegraph office.

Wide World fdc for Baron Von Mueller 2.5d stamp postmarked Dennis Vic (a locality of Northcote) cds on fdi - 13th September 1948 to Northcote Vic.

Phoenix says Dennis Victoria opened as an RO circa 925, became PO 1/7/1927 & closed 30/11/1977.

Dennis is a locality in the north-eastern suburb of Northcote about 8kms north of the Melbourne CBD.

Dennis has a railway station is located on the Hurstbridge line, between Westgarth & Fairfield which opened on 4th February 1924.

Dennis is named after Northcote Councillor William Dennis, a member of the council for over 40 years.

Haslem fdc for KGVI 2.5d red stamp postmarked Diggers Road (Werribee South) Vic - 12th April 1950

Digger's Road runs off Duncan's Road, near the Princes Freeway, & runs down to Port Phillip Bay & the mouth of the Werribee River, about 7kms SSE of Werribee.

To the west is the Werribee Open Range Zoo, Werribee Park Mansion, Victorian Rose Garden & the Western Sewerage Treatment Works. To the East is Point Cook & the RAAF Williams Air Force Base.

There is no truth to the rumour that the bay turns brown at high tide.

Phoenix says that Digger's Road opened as an RO on 18/4/1921, became a PO on 1/7/1927 & closed on 24/1/1970.

Your Lake Charm postmark is actually Lake Charm Railway, 1891-1971.

Thanks for your correction eharper. I shouldn't do these things when I am tired. :)

Phoenix says Lake Charm Railway opened as a PO on 21/2/1891& closed on 31/7/1971.

Lake Charm also boasted a railway station which in its heyday in 1942-43 dispatched more cases of citrus fruit than any other station in Victoria. Labour intensive salt harvesting began in 1880 and has been modernised and continued on by the fourth generation of the same family.

Perhaps this is why they needed a Post Office in the town & another at the Railway Station.

1962 Christmas 5d stamp on ACCA cover postmarked on first anniversary of issue with Coal Point NSW cds - 17th October 1963.

Phoenix says Coal Point NSW opened as a PO on 2/9/1946 & closed on 31/3/1980.

Coal Point is a suburb of the City of Lake Macquarie in New South Wales, on a peninsula south-east of the towns of Toronto and Carey Bay, on the western side of Lake Macquarie. Coal Point is 147 kms north of Sydney & 30 kms south west of Newcastle.

Coal mining was performed at Ebenezer Colliery Coal Point from 1841 to around 1906. The first coal mine was operated by Reverend Lancelot Threlkeld, a missionary to the Awabakal people, local entrepreneur and the first European landholder of 'Punte', the Coal Point to Toronto area. The explorer Ludwig Leichhardt visited the mine in 1842.
