I listed these up for sale here today - Aust 5 x KGV head stamps Perf "OS" and all *APPALLINGLY* Centred!

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=29399

Stamps must be the only hobby activity where defective items are worth more than perfect ones.

Centering on KGV heads is critical to price.

Well centred is sought after. Noticeably OFF centre is half that price. HORRENDOUSLY off centre becomes a printing freak, and is generally over the well centred price!

These 5 are hard to beat for absolutely appalling appearance. All are single crown wmk except for the 4d.

From an old Estate, so thankfully have NEVER been anywhere near Blue Owl!

These OS perfins are guaranteed to ME as 105% genuine, as done by Government printer 80 years ago.

Indeed John Ash in particular being a frugal Scot decreed that any sheets of stamp SO badly centred, that really could not be sold to the public be perifinned "OS" for Government use.

His logic - they got them free, so they got whatever they were given, and wasting paper and ink was not in a Scot's nature in the Great Depression era.

So as you can see these are pearlers. The "best" of the worst is the 4d olive. This just happens to be the truly rare Small Multi perf 14 - ACSC 115b $100, and near always found badly centred ANYWAY!

ACSC tells us only 93,000 were perfinned, so this is near as scarce as a 5/- Bridge numerically.

Being a stamp not face different to earlier 4d Olives, near all were tossed away of these almost certainly on mail, so survival will be many times less than a Bridge.

To this day, I'm not sure if this was deliberate or an error, but the 1923 ¼ Anna rose of Barwani shows perforations that wander between gauge 6 and 12

Image

because every second perforation pin seems to have been shorter or blunter.

This imperf block of the Orchha 1935 15 Rupee, on the other hand, is officially an error (the stamp exists fully perf, and Gibbons lists this one as SG 29a)

Image

but in the Mad Hatter's Tea Party world of Orchha in 1935, imperf pairs of SG 29b are cheaper than fully perforated singles of the 15 Rupee, SG 29 :D

Are these odd Tasmanian stamps with a double perforation line due to sheet size, perforation machine setting, or are they misperfed?

I am not sure if it was common for Belgian stamps to be as mis perforated as this but I thought it was worth the £1 plus postage I paid along for it (with some other items).

Not imperf, ever. It is to use the American term, an EFO (error/freak/oddity). It is worth what somebody is willing to pay for it, and more if two people are willing to pay for it.

These paper fold misperfs can sell reasonably well at times though obviously better with part or preferably all of one side imperf.

Your one would fit well in a pre-decimal or thematic collection/exhibit of marsupials, Australian fauna, etc.

Here's a paper fold misperf that was in my collection:

And an EFO on the 1/- Lyre bird:

YES.

On ebay it would be.

For the rest of the sane world a nice little perf jump/skip, and common on KGVI Defins as are corner turn overs of selvedge, SOME of which are so big they truly ARE imperf one side.

About $20-$40 or so I'd guess -- in the real world ... on ebay $5,000,000,000,000 "Buy It Now" - or near offer.

Some nice misperfs resulting from paper folds that I sold a few years ago.

Misperfed so badly one unit is completely imperf at left, the other partially:

Another almost full imperf at left:

And another, this time imperf at the bottom. The paper fold is clearly visible:

Solomon Islands 1983 Loggerhead Turtle 35¢ stamp TRIPLE PERFORATION block 4
Absolutely spectacular printing freak, and only 1 other example is recorded, that I listed up this week here -

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=71931

This is a fresh MUH block 4 on the Crown CA watermark sideways paper. With margin colour autotron printer dots on selvedge. Solomon Island 35c Loggerhead Turtle – “Caretta Caretta.”

Even minor printing and perforation errors were unusual under the super strict quality control the Crown Agents Stamp Bureau oversaw.

Even DOUBLE perfs for any issue are unusual, and in the modern era, TRIPLE perfs are near unheard of - from anywhere. If it were an Australia triple perf from this era, you could add a ZERO to my price.

Look carefully at the lower VERTICAL perf lines, and you can see it was an errant extra strike of the perf comb, in that all the vertical holes are slightly double punched, typical of an extra strike of the comb.

Glen

This 15 cent magenta, perf 10 vertically, coil pair features U.S. Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes (Scott 1305E) and was issued June 14, 1978 as part of the Prominent Americans issue. The stamp's designer was Richard F. Hurd.

Hi Bear0001,

This appears to be a standard "wing margin" stamp rather than a perforation error.

The central gutter was perforated down the middle rather than at each side so stamps next to the gutter have this wide margin.
