Hi,

Just going through my collection, this SL FDC is missing the postmark. Would this be considered an error?

I dont think so, as here in India they sell FDC at counters with out the stamps as well.
So you can attach the stamps and still not have the post mark cancel!
I hope thats helpful info.

A set of cricket stamps forwarded to me by Nightwatchman that arrived today:

100th TEST MATCH at LORD's GROUND 13 OFFICIAL M.C.C. PUBLICITY LABELS
Image

Image
100th TEST MATCH at LORDS's GROUND

On the 29th June 200, at the Second Test Match of their time, to be played at Lord's Ground, the West Indies will join with England to play the 100th TEST MATCH at this famous ground - the home of cricket throughout the world.

To commemorate this important event in Cricket history, the M.C.C. have issued, (as part of their special offer of postage stamps which have been prepared by several Caribbean countries), these 10 PUBLICITY LABELS featuring the Pavilion, as well as the Captains of the NINE International Teams which have played TEST MATCHES at Lord's since the first one in 19884. Each label gives the number of Test Matches played by that Team ranging from 1 (By the latest - Zimbabwe) - to 99 by the home Team - England. For the serious statisticians, the number of Test Matches, as calculated on the front of each label, totals 101!. This is caused by the fact that Australia played a Test Match at Lord's against South Africa in 1912, during the triangular Tournament held that year, when England played both Australia and South Africa.

* Because of late changes to Captains, some labels were already printed and so the earlier versions are enclosed without further charge. We even managed, at the last moment, to replace the South African captain, but this selection is the very last we were able to arrange at this late stage of May 14th 2000.

Country Captain depicted No. of Tests
ENGLAND N. Hussain 99
AUSTRALIA S. Waugh 32
WEST INDIES P. Adams 16
INDIA S. Ganguly 13
NEW ZEALAND S. Fletcher 13
* SOUTH AFRICA S. Pollock 13
* PAKISTAN Moin Khan 10
* SRI LANKA S. Jayasuriya 3
ZIMBABWE A. Flower 1

Please note: These labels are to publicise the event ONLY. They have NO POSTAL VALIDITY. The labels have been issued in a LIMITED QUANTITY of 3,600 complete sets and are ONLY available as complete sets, from the MCC Shop or direct form the Agents for this issue:-

It is neither "Corowa" nor "Cowra". It is "Cooma" Victoria, not NSW, which is about 5 miles west of Byrneside.

A fdc of sorts for Australian Living Cricket Legend, Sir Donald Bradman. Unusually his stamps have been added to a lawn bowls pse issued 17 years earlier in 1980 & incorrectly cancelling the lawn bowler with the fdi postmark:

The information posted by Kenneth about the Kiwi stamps may not be correct. According to NZ Post and also their website, there is no cricket stamp coming out in September 2016.

I know the moderators would chastise me for posting this, but I would not raise my hopes for this stamp.

One might ask why I am posting these fdcs from New Zealand for "Queen Elizabeth II - New Zealand's Longest Reigning Monarch, from earlier this year, on this cricket thread:
Image
The reverse of the cover tells us of major events in New Zealand during her reign including disasters & sporting events:
Image
One of the events on the $2.00 stamp is the "Underarm Bowl"

The underarm bowling incident of 1981 took place on 1 February 1981, when Australia played New Zealand in a One Day International cricket match, the third of five such matches in the final of the Benson & Hedges World Series Cup, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. With one ball of the final over remaining, New Zealand required a six to tie the match. To ensure that New Zealand did not get the runs they needed, the Australian captain, Greg Chappell, instructed his bowler (and younger brother), Trevor Chappell, to deliver the last ball underarm, along the ground. This action was legal at the time, but nevertheless seen as being against the spirit of cricketing fair play."
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underarm_bowling_incident_of_1981
Image]
One of the events on the $3.00 stamp is the "NZ Cricket World Cup 2015".

"The 2015 Cricket World Cup was the 11th Cricket World Cup, jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand from 14 February to 29 March 2015. Fourteen teams played 49 matches in 14 venues, with Australia staging 26 games at grounds in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney while New Zealand hosted 23 games in Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, Napier, Nelson and Wellington. Australia defeated New Zealand in the final by 7 wickets to win their fifth ICC Cricket World Cup."

I think people might like to see two items I picked up from a local fair recently (and I also bought a third with another signature by Donald Bradman). I'm not a cricket collector but I really couldn't ignore them...

Image

Signed by Donald Bradman, Alec Bedser and Eric Bedser on a 1973 County Cricket First Day Cover with 'The Oval' cancel.

Image

And an autograph sheet for the 1980 great Australian Cricket team signed by Greg Chappell, Hughes, Border, Bright, Dymock, Dyson, Laird, Lillee, Mallett, Marsh, Pascoe, Thomson, Wood and Yallop.

I picked this 50th Anniversary of Federation up recently on ebay, nicely cancelled at the home of Queensland cricket, Woollongabba (or "The Gabba" for short):
Image
The set of stamps affixed also includes one of Australia' first Prime Minister, Sir Edmund Barton, who prior to politics had been a cricket umpire.

"Barton was born in the Sydney suburb of Glebe, the ninth child of English parents William Barton, a stockbroker, and Mary Louise Barton (née Whydah). He was baptised at St James Church, Sydney on 4 July 1849. He was educated at Fort Street Model School and Sydney Grammar School, where he was twice dux and School Captain and met his lifelong friend and later fellow Justice of the High Court of Australia, Richard O'Connor. He graduated with first-class honours and the University Medal in classics from the University of Sydney, where he also demonstrated considerable skill as a cricketer in batting, but not in fielding. He was also an active founding member of the Sydney Rowing Club. Barton became a barrister in 1871. On a cricketing trip to Newcastle in 1870 he met Jane Mason Ross, whom he married in 1877.

In 1879, Barton umpired a cricket match at Sydney Cricket Ground between New South Wales and an English touring side captained by Lord Harris. After a controversial decision by Barton's colleague George Coulthard against the home side, the crowd spilled onto the pitch and assaulted some of the English players, leading to international cricket's first riot. The publicity that attended the young Barton's presence of mind in defusing that situation reputedly helped him take his first step towards becoming Australia's first prime minister, winning a state lower house seat later that year."

This thread has had all images transferred to Imgur and has been restored to its former glory by the volunteers working in the "Anti Ransom Forum".

Not a stamp cover but I was listing these up today and was amazed that the UK had a cricket match on its Tenner banknote some 25 years ago!

In 1992, the Royal Mint, in conjunction with the Bank Of England, released a very special Limited Issue £10 Ten Pound Banknote, and a 10p Ten Pence Silver Proof 2 Coin Set to commemorate the introduction of the new, smaller 10p Coin into circulation, and the newly designed £10 Ten Pound Banknote.

This note is one of the first printed, as outlined on the Bank Of England Certificate, and has the distinctive "AO1" serial prefix number to prove just that. This version of the "Tenner" is really scarce and the next year 1993 have an additional denomination symbol £10 on each side of the note, so this design only lasted a year or so.

This new note depicted of course Charles Dickens and interestingly a CRICKET MATCH - making this a great buy for cricket fans of whom there are endless millions of there! From the "Pickwick Papers" famous novel of 1836 we have depicted here the first cricket match between All Muggleton and Dingley Dell that Mr Pickwick attended with his colleagues.

With Australia's Ashes Series victory earlier this week, I thought it was appropriate to add this unusual cover in here now:

I know it is not strictly appropriate, as it is just one stamp from a set and it is not on a cover or stationery, but I smiled when I got this one:

I'm unsure how you'd kick a penalty, drop goal or conversion if the one pictured on the rugby stamp is typical of North Korean rugby posts.

In 2005, Australia issued set of 4 stamps for Australian Sporting Treasures one of which included Sir Donald Bradman's "Baggy Green Cap".

I found these today when looking for something else:

In Malaysia I managed to get a presentation pack with these stamps to commemorate the ICC trophy held there.

I wonder if there are any other Associate Nations which have not got Test / ODI status yet who have issued cricket related stamps ...
Countries - Singapore, HK, India. | Themes - Sports, Stamp on Stamp and space.
Will collect whatever catches my eye! Reach out if you would like to exchange covers!
