The new Bowral Postmark for Australian Legend Don Bradman and the museum departs from the previous use of an image from the Don's favourite match, his record Innings of 452* in 1930 at the SCG for NSW against Queensland. This image was used for the 1997 Legends stamp and postmark, the 2001 Vale issue and the reissue in 2007 for "Cricket in Stamps" and 10 years of Legends.

The new design appears to show the batsman wearing a helmet rather than the "Baggy Green"

Even postmarks have to move with the times.

Dear Ken
Send a cover with at least $1 AUD postage to Bowral Post Office with a return self addressed envelope.
I think you can also send it to the Philatelic Bureau.
"Coversplease" an ebay seller usually does covers for postmarks.

The Sydney Stamp and Coin Expo 2019 organising committee released a set of Australia Post Designs for the Miniature sheet souvenirs. One of the designs is of four $1.00 Stamps showing the SCG on a background of the SCG. (Artwork is still to be finalised.)

Does Australia Post intend to release a series of Cricket Ground Stamps or only one of the SCG? Will this lead to a war between the SCG and the MCG? What about the Gabba, Adelaide Oval, Perth Stadium and Bellerive?

Go to SYDNEY STAMP & COIN EXPO - 13 to 16 June 2019 https://www.sydneystampcoinexpo2019.org.au/ or the StampBoards https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=83961 or Australia's Post Event Page https://australiapostcollectables.com.au/events

Lovely to see Tralalgon 3844 posting on this thread.Like John Howard, I am a cricket tragic. My favourite sport and although useless at it, I persevered.
Spent 8 years as a GP in Traralgon, playing cricket for Churchill and Traralgon Blues.
I am so looking forward to seeing the many posts related to cricket on this thread

Is it not strange, how many cricket tragics, live in Dubai. On my return, I will post some Carribean issues, featuring several English county sides of the 60s/70s, including the greatest side of that era, Yorkshire, with Geoff Boycott and Brian Close to the fore. I can almost hears the Australian cries of derision already. Just wait until they are posted!
Is it that obvious that I am a Boycott and Yorkshire fan?

I will be in Melbourne when the Sports Stadium Stamps are issued and I thought I could get the MCG Stamp postmarked with the MCG Postmark. (APM23600) I emailed Australia Post and was disappointed that no MCG postmark exists. This is their reply:

"Thanks for getting in touch with the Australian Philatelic Bureau in regards to the Sports Stadium stamp issue due for release in June. My name is Amy, and I can give you some information on this.

I have checked with the East Melbourne post office and they do not have a pictorial postmark on hand with an image of the MCG on it. I have also checked with our philatelic warehouse, and unfortunately, they no longer have this pictorial postmark to affix either. You could go to the post office on the day and get it postmarked with a general postmark for that location, or send the cover to be postmarked to us, we can affix a general postmark and return to you.

Should you wish to send the cover to us to be postmarked, the address is as below. Please be sure to include a suitable postage paid return addressed envelope for us to send the cover back to you.

Australia Post
Postmarking Dept.
15 Enterprise Drive
Rowville VIC 3178

I hope that this information will be of assistance, and thanks for your interest in the Sports Stadium stamp release."

Does anyone know any different? In the past I have gone to the Gabba Post Office to be told there was no postmark and a few weeks latter several covers appeared on ebay.

I will ask David Kirby, the king of cricket stamps & postmarks.

Some Australia Post staff honestly don't know what you are talking about & say it doesn't exist, while the staff member at the next counter has it & doesn't say anything. Randwick did that to me.

The problem is these postmarks run out of dateline & if no one asks for them regularly they are not replaced.

Sports Stadium Part 2 in 2020

Image

On announcing the release of the Sports Stadium Issue on the 4th June 2019, Australia Post Philatelic Manager Michael Zsolt said it was an opportunity to recognise the importance of sport as a big part of Australian popular culture.

He noted that this was the first of two series of issues.

The Western Australian Newspaper skited that “the stamp portraying Optus Stadium had edged out high-profile sporting venues in Queensland and South Australia to be featured in a new set of four stamps from Australia Post.”

What Stadia are in line for the 2020 issues?

Queensland – The Gabba and Lang Park
NSW – the redeveloped Sydney Football Stadium or Stadium Australia
Victoria – Marvel Stadium
SA – Adelaide Oval

(My answer is above. The Gabba as it should have appeared in the 2019 issue or how it may appear in the 2020 issue.)

Here is something a bit out of the ordinary:

Image

A post card sent by an Australian soldier in an Italian POW camp in 1943 to Vic Ransford (former Australian Test cricketer and then, in 1943, Secretary of the Melbourne Cricket Club).

Image

In the circumstances, the request for Country Membership of the Melbourne CC may have been a little audacious.

My thanks to MJ's pet and to Big Saint for your comments.

The post card is one of the more colourful items in my POW collection and thus not for sale at this time!

Bill Rudd's ANZAC POW Freemen in Europe has been one of my 'go to' research sites for some years - a truly amazing effort by one man to record the history of his fellow Australian 'evaders' in Europe in WWII.

The MCC was formed in 1838, so the MCC logo 150 would mean these cachets were applied in 1988. :)

Does anyone know anything about these cachets :?:

Maximum cards utilising the Cricket World Cup stamps. There aren't any postcards from the events of course, but Lord's Cricket Ground produces some.

At least, Norvic, the latest issues from Royal Mail on cricket are titled England Winners and Not England Drawers. I have just received my F.D.C.s and as I have been beaten to the punch, I will not post them here a second time. Although it may be salutatory for Glen.
I prefer to collect UK, British Commonwealth esp Pacific area ( not excluding West Indies/Canada ) and Western Europe. At the bottom of my zone of interest is Eastern Europe and communist countries.

Sorry Kenneth I missed your post before & I didn't see this on eBay. So there are more than just the two I have.

MCG Maximum Card from 2019 Sport Stadiums Series 1.

The Australia Post postcard was available in many post offices in Melbourne.
It is unfortunate that there is not much sky for the postmark.
The stamps are the gummed and peel & stick MCG stamp. Can maximum cards have two stamps?

The card had previously been available for the Melbourne Commonwealth Games and the Sporting Treasures issue with the Dons Baggy Green.
The stamp is a facsimile and part of the card design.

For FIP competitions and exhibits maximum cards can only have two stamps if they are issued as a se-tenant pair, as far as I recall.

The newly released Australia Retains the Ashes $1 stamp on fdc - 1st October 2019:

For reasons best known to Australia Post, collectors had to make their own as Australia Post did not issue a fdc.

This is a unique cover. My nephew had it signed by Neil Harvey of Bradman's 1948 team. Then I added the stamps and got it postmarked on Bradman's 100th birthday.
