Naomi, it was my pleasure. As I told your mom, if I ever get the ones still missing from your part set, I will send them to you.

Here is a little challenge for you Naomi - One of your stamps is from the later 1961 set from the same animal series. Which one is it?

You're welcome Norm :D . I see that I inadvertently sent you 2 of the same stamp. I hope some of these filled some holes for you.

The Argos overprinted Grey Cup stamp on the cover is from a limited run of 30,000 booklets of 10 - there may not be a lot of these used on cover.

Hi Jean, Stacey makes some beautiful things doesn't she! Yours look outstanding!

I bought wine charm sets for all our girls and keyrings for all the guys this Christmas. We don't normally buy presents as there is too many of us (we usually have a Kris Kringle with one person) but this year I couldn't resist. Hardest part was deciding what stamps suited the particular person!

Jean and Naomi, I hope you have a wonderful holiday period. It's never long enough though is it!? Make every moment count and enjoy your time together!

Had to have a laugh Jean when I saw the original "stamps" to the finished product...which look outstanding!

Our youngest daughter couldn't wait for Christmas and has already opened hers! She thought they were just pictures until I told her they were real stamps...she replied "but they haven't got those cutty-out fluffy-bits on the sides!!!?". This is a comment from the daughter of an avid stamp collector! I truly despair!!

In exchange for the stamps we got from Neta, we sent Neta some used animal stamps which I forgot to scan before packing them up for her. Some were from Naomi's duplicates, but many were from my Japan duplicate stock.

Here's a sampling of kind of stamps from Japan that I can offer in trade (some of these have gone to Neta, but I have more than one copy of most):

These were all selected for Neta's interest (animals) but I have plenty of stamps with other themes as well. Post here or email if interested in a swap. Naomi is collecting used animals/birds/insects and I am looking to fill spaces in my country collections (Canada, Germany, Japan, Singapore, Israel, Ryukyus) and in my used Europa (CEPT) topical collection. :D :D

Also, I was at a stamp show a couple of weekends ago, looking for covers for my blood donation collection. I spotted a bag of Canada kiloware that a cover dealer was selling for $20 set off to the side, mainly stamps clipped from his incoming mail, which I bought on a whim. When I got home, it turned out to be a great buy. Roughly 250g with lots of higher values and less common commems, with lots of nice CDS cancels which are uncommon in Canada. Here's a sampling:

And they will both look much better when separated from the rest of the make up postage.

Be careful if you soak the $5 with the selvage. I had a very nice $10 whale with selvage sent to me as postage. When I went to lift it out of the soak, both pieces of selvage fell off (which had the scuba divers showing printing run).

Next time, I believe I will keep it close trimmed on piece.

Yes, the whale is so large it can be tricky to soak, especially if the envelope paper "expands" to a different extent when wet and pulls on the stamp/selvage (I learned this the hard way too). The moose should be okay though, I've soaked those before with no problems.

Well this weekend our router died, so instead of spending time with my stamps I ended up going out to get a new router and spending time setting that up, then realizing that it was no longer compatible with our old print server, so had to go and buy a new wireless printer so the kids can print their homework without having to turn on the old dinosaur computer downstairs. The upshot though is that I ended up with a new Canon all-in-one printer/fax/scanner, and the scans are stunning compared to our old Canon multifunction. And just in time for me to show you some gorgeous stamps I got recently.

I've had a standing new issues subscription with the Taiwan Philatelic Service for years. But these 2 recent issues are probably the most beautiful stamps I've seen in a while.

November 12, 2012
Ancient Chinese Painting "Three Friends and a Hundred Birds", by Ming Dynasty painter Pien Wen-chin, from the National Palace Museum collection. The 3 stamps on the long souvenir sheet each highlight a portion of the painting. The other souvenir sheet features the full scroll - and is printed on silk paper, a first for Taiwan.

I'm always on the lookout for elephants for a friend of mine. Do you still have the expo stamp with the mammoth on it that you showed above. I'd be happy to trade something for it.

Hi John,

I'll see your mammoth and raise you a pair of tusks and 6 elephants... :D

Image

The Upper Volta (CTO) and South Africa (mint hinged) are from Naomi's doubles, but the rest are from my Japan kiloware stock. If you'd like these, send me your address and I'll pop them in the mail.

That first one on the second row is indeed an elephant, although it almost looks more like a cat...it's from a 2007 issue celebrating diplomatic relations between Japan and Thailand.

Image

Nothing needed in exchange, but...Naomi really likes the line engraved stamps from Sweden (although she is not sophisticated enough to call them line engraved, she just likes the detail when we scan them at high resolution). These are the animal/bird stamps she has - if you have some duplicates of ones that she doesn't have, she would be delighted. :D :D

Got some more Europa stamps in the mail last week from my long-time trading friend in New Zealand:

Also, this stamp for my France Art collection:

Place Massena is the geographic centre of Nice. In 2007, the towering sculptures of Jaume Plensa, a Spanish artist specializing in monumental art, were installed along the new tram lines. Called "Conversation in Nice", these seven statues represent the seven continents and are illuminated at night. Shining and slowly changing color, they represent the communication between the different communities of today’s society.

Hello Jean
The elephants arrived safely today, just in time as I'll be seeing my friend at the meeting on Tuesday and I know he won't have all of these. Thank you very much.
Where do the years go? I went from philandering to philately and didn't even notice.

My pleasure John. :D

Japanese self-adhesive stamps come off very easily with soaking, so that Thai elephant should pop off no problem.

Hello!

My mom bought an album from aethulwulf . We found all these really cool animal stamps and we had a lot of fun looking through the album. Some of the stamps weren't animal stamps but I really liked them.
