BigSaint wrote:Not sure why the postmark does not match the registration label
It does, actually -- the confusing thing here is that the "SW1" is a London district (and which became the first part of the postcode when they were introduced), and the "SW14" is a separate identifier for the sub-office as used on registration labels.
So basically Buckingham Gate in the SW1 district was office number 14 within the London SW area, according to whatever system of allocating numbers London SW used at the time (head offices could decide for themselves).

Registered cover for the Centenary of the Casterton Cup:
There is no postmark at Merino on the reverse which means either the Postmaster at Merino was slack or the cover did not go through the mail.
Below is Colleen Woolley's write up on the special commemorative postmark & you will note at point 3, that there is only one registered cover for this event.

Beauty is sometimes in the eye of the beholder. This has a bit of rust on it but registered airmail covers from Iraq in this period are not common. Busra to London, 14 April 1923.
and for something completely different - Abu Dhabi to Victoria 28 Nov 1970
Collects India to 1947, 1911 Coronation Durbar, British Empire, worldwide postal history, Australia used on cover and anything else interesting. I'll think of something more inspiring one day.
Just after the birth of a new nation .... some registered covers of Bangladesh using their maiden issue of postal stationery and stamps of Pakistan overprinted with hand stamps in 1972.

I went to the $5 auction at Brighton on Saturday to see what was available and was outbid on a number of items but picked up this 1998 Norway Registered cover to Australia.
It contained a mint 1997 year pack from Norway and was sent to an old workmate who has since passed away. Nice stamps used on the envelope that the year pack was sold in.
We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm.
I picked this one up at Brighton last night where it was suggested to me that Australia Post no longer sell the red & orange registered post prepaid labels like the one in the top left corner:
Is this true or just a lazy postal worker who finds it easier just to retail the whole registered envelope

Collecting Aircraft & Aviation theme stamp blocks MS SS Sheet lets MNH,FDC,Maxim cards,Booklets, information sheets and Air mail labels mint blocks & sheets.
One I Picked up the other Day ;
Karachi to London ...Postmarked 10th November 1931 (Is this still regarded as FDI ) as issue Date is 4th November 1931.
I don't find a lot of Registered 1960 Melbourne Cup fdcs & when I do it is usually philatelic & this one is no exception:
It pays the correct rate as registration for local letters was 5 times the local letter rate of 5d, so a block of 6 does both perfectly. There are no back stamps on the reverse as the fdc would have been handed direct to the postman for his delivery round.

You are welcome to contribute as much as you can, but you need to get your scans to the 800 x 600 like mine above otherwise they are too small for us to enjoy.
A nice Soil & Medical Congress double gutter pair on registered fdc, although I thought postage was 5c & registration fee was 25c, so it appears 5c short paid to me. E J Newman was a fdc collector who liked large (9"x4") fdcs & cut out the cachets from various (usually Royal) other cachetmakers & registered them.

This is SG 42A from Barwani State, in India. It was the first appearance of the 4 Anna stamp in green (previously it had been printed in orange). No registration markings, but the 4 Anna (say 5 cents) rate meant that it had to be sent registered:
Heavily creased, of course, but a commercial usage, and as there were only 1600 printed, who cares?

As I received this one today it proves it was a lazy postal worker:

Received this "extra flash" registered cover from Glenn today. The postal agent at Cheltenham did not know why the red lines were drawn on the cover. I had to explain it to him.
