This 1974 Australia Post Gemstones fdc was correctly cancelled on the 16th October 1974:
Image
But someone at Merrylands Post Office was having a "merry" time & forgot to change the date from the UPU issue the week before. Oops!

This 18c Flower stamp is perfect:
Image
However this one is missing all the black. I have seen quite a few of this error, but this is the only one I have seen on cover, even though is was philatelically contrived:

A close up for comparison:

Nothing wrong with these pair of 1976 Nationhood fdcs postmarked in Brisbane is there :?:
Image
Image
Or is there, have a closer look :!:
Image
Image
Can you see it now :?:
Image
This is ACSC 540cc where the "Stone" colour is omitted from the Kangaroo & Emu (on the right hand stamp).

I have seen one other fdc with a block of 4 on it of this variety. It is where a block was added to a fdc with a single postmarked at Melbourne Philatelic Bureau & the block was postmarked at Charleville. Apparently a sheet with the missing colour & fdc was sent to a stamp dealer in Charleville (& he received on first day so he ran down to post office). He told me after selling some off he had about a half sheet left when Charleville was flooded & the rest were ruined.

I can't work out how this Wesley Cover Service (WCS) fdc for the $10 Painting was correctly postmarked at the Sydney Philatelic Sales Centre:

but the Australia Post version postmarked at the very same post office was postmarked one year earlier:

The post office didn't do any official covers for this issue themselves, so here's a couple of covers I did for the 2002 Christmas issue. I sent the first lot off with a request for the official FDI postmark - and what came back was not quite what I was expecting.

Image

I've never seen the type of postmarkers they use, but I assume they are fixed-date, so this isn't a case of just forgetting to alter the date, they've accidentally picked up the wrong canceller and used one from the previous "The Magic Rainforest" issue. And they didn't notice their error or I imagine they'd have just replaced the covers.

I sent a few more covers after the first ones came back, these were alright (second cover above).

Now here how the Australia Post National Parks fdc from 1979 should look:
Image
Image
And then there is this one. Until I saw this one I didn't know there were guidelines for the placement of the stamps:
Image
Perhaps they needed guidelines for the folds as well.

Now when was the 125th Anniversary of the Eureka Stockade?

Was it?

A :- 3rd December 1978
Image
B :- 3rd December 1979
Image
C :- 3rd December 1980
Image
The answer of course is "B" 3rd December 1980, so the Sydney Philatelic Sales Centre make a bad date error while it is possible someone came back to Eureka the next year but somehow I don't think so.

150th Anniversary of Charles Sturt's Explorations PSE, correctly postmarked at Sturt St SA:
Image
However this one postmarked at Wentworth NSW has the 1½d value from Centenary of Sturt's Explorations (issued 2nd June 1930) added. Predecimal stamps were de-monetised on 13th February 1968 & therefore the added stamp should not have been postmarked:
Image
If the one above wasn't bad enough, below both the 1½d & 2d values of the Centenary of Sturt's Explorations (issued 2nd June 1930) have been added but have been incorrectly postmarked with the fdi postmark on 12th November 1980 (50 years after date of issue):

The adding of old stamps returns here with the 4c 50th Anniversary of Royal Surf Life Saving Association. It is ok to add but not ok to postmark with a fdi postmark of 4th February 1981, when it was issued on 6th July 1966:

The Darby Munro stamp was correctly postmarked on it's date of issue, 18th February 1981:
Image
Now Darby rode Peter Pan to victory in the Melbourne Cup in 1934, so it was a nice tie in to add the Peter Pan stamps to the cover. However the Peter Pan stamp was issued on 18th October 1978 & therefore should not have been cancelled with the Glen Waverley fdi postmark.

Perhaps not strictly an error, for the purpose of this thread, but I received this in my office mail this morning:
Image
Ford Australia is the Australian subsidiary of Ford Motor Company which is an American company and was founded in Geelong, Victoria, in 1925

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Motor_Company_of_Australia

So this machine slogan cancel was introduced in 2000 & is still going strong in 2014 now that Ford has been in Australia for 89 years. Perhaps the postmark is going stronger than Ford these days!

75th Anniversary of Scouting 1982 - 1983 PSE correctly postmarked on the first day of issue at the Melbourne Philatelic Bureau:

The dateline of this postmark must have been a wheel, rather a different canceller for each day with a fixed dateline. How else would you have the one below dated 7th January 1982, which is before the fdi & the start of the jamboree:

The adding of old stamps surfaces again here with the 4d 150th Anniversary of the Post Office being added to the 175th Anniversary of Postal Services PSE. The added pre-decimal stamp should not have been postmarked as pre-decimal stamps were demonetised on 13th February 1968.

Prestamped envelope for the Birth Centenaries of JB Chifley & J Curtain issued on 25th January 1985.

Correctly postmarked at Curtin ACT on fdi:
Image
And this one also correctly postmarked with Chifley stamp added & postmarked with CDS at Chifley:
Image
But someone added the Chifley stamp to this one & cancelled with the fdi postmarker at Bathurst on 25th January 1985 when the Chifley stamp (part of Prime Ministers set) was issued on 26th March 1975 almost 10 years before:

Wonder if anyone added the Curtain & Chifley stamps & postmarked them at Curtain & Chifley :?: I will just have to keep looking :!:

Somehow Nunawading managed to postmark it one year earlier:

Correctly postmarked 1985 Australia Post fdc for the Christmas issue of 18th September 1985:

But someone at Bendigo forgot to change the month over:

Unfortunately a previous owner added his own artwork to the cover :!:

Now we start "Fun with Frama" :!:

Correctly postmarked WCS "Barred Edge" FDC on date of issue 22nd February 1984:
Image
But someone was let loose at the Sunpex Exhibition with the fdi postmark which was for the World Cup Athletics PSE issued on 30th September 1985:
Image
This WCS Kangaroo cachet was meant for the Kangaroo Frama issued on 22nd October 1985:

Gouger Street West, I am reliably informed by an Adelaidite that it is pronounced "Googer":
Image
There was movement at the post office, for the word had passed around
That Gouger Street had a new stamp machine that day,
And they had put the wrong paper in it & it might be worth a thousand pound,
So all the stampies had gathered to play.
Dealers and collectors from the places near and far
Had arrived at the Post Office with delight!

With apologies to Banjo Paterson :)

But he wasn't the only one. I am told there was a big line for the first day of use of this new machine at Gouger Street West, & those who queued early received an unexpected bonus:

But unfortunately these things don't last & the Kangaroo paper ran out & the correct Barred Edge paper was put in the machine :(
