Andrew, love the Kucing FDC.

Here is a part set that I found from Mozambique - I love the style of these stamps, I think they are from the 60's???

Kimberley,

Yes I also like the Kuching (cat) set. The mother cat seems so contented with her litter. I think I have another malaysian FDC on cats somewhere. Need to look for it.

Those Mozambique stamps are so reminiscent of an era past with its old-time charm. Never seen them before. The bottom triangle stamps look like they are part of a set or a full set?

Cheers

very beautiful Aussie stamps..I am looking for this "Creatures of the Night" quite long time ago, but still unable to get it, because the price sold in Malaysia is very expensive.

Ken,

Like the Malaysian miniature sheets, the idea is to get them as soon as they are issued. I don't know whether Steven Tan has any Australian stamps for sale. Will try to find out if I go down this Saturday.

Hi ALL

The Stamps From the Mozambique Company as shown by Kimberly are circa 1918 (two upright) and 1937 the triangles.

issued by a private trading company that had control of the areas of Manica and and Sofala in Mozambique up until 1942.

there is another area call the Nyassa company that controlled that area in a similar fashon.

after 1942 Portuagal took over control of these areas.

this is very similar to the British South African Company founded by Cecil John Rhodes (that became Rhodesia,Zambia and Nyassaland)

Thanks, Colin. It's the most affordable of the Canadian pence issues. so I was actually able to put together a reasonable assembly, including (I think) all of the major paper types and shades. There are also re-entries and constant plate varieties I would love to find, although they can get very expensive.

Setemmy,

Thanks for sharing that scan of the $1 Elephants with us.
Your copies look very nice and clean though fiscally used.
I guess I don't get to see too many nice ones offered for sale here.
Anyway, I guess it would be better to settle for fiscally used
instead of not having any of these elephants.

Happy hunting (for elephants and tigers).

Cheers

The used Elephant has good retained colour, the flaw being a slight thin LR corner perf.
The $5 Tiger is obviously damaged but postally used/ Kuala Lumpur pmk.

KL might have better source for FMS but when I was last in Penang there was only 1 shop in Komtar, out of 5 visited, that had decent and pricey stock. I bought some cheaper stamps at full CV for better postmarks; at about 40sen each I can live with that.

Fred,

Thanks for sharing the above scans.
The shop you went to in Komtar is probably the one run by Abdullah,
one of the regular dealers who takes part in local stamp shows.

As you suspect, KL probably has better material
and Steven Tan's shop "International Stamp & Coin Sdn. Bhd."
at the Pertama Complex in KL probably has better quality material priced.

Another souce is the from a collector who buys widely from all over the world
and sells off his excess/duplicate material at half the catalogue value of Steven Tan's.
However, he does not have the full set for sale, only the lower values.
I always watch out for him at these shows.
The next one is in April 12 and 13 at the PJ Library.
If you are around, it might be worth visiting.

Cheers

Sunmas = Abdullah. Yes.

Perhaps you can start a new tread on stamp dealers in Malaysia

Kl/PJ is such difficult travel that I would rather just shop online. I worked in KL for a short while uptil mid 1986

Keeping inline with this tread. An exhibition ovpt on Kedah plow-oxen.

Haha. I find modern Malaysia too much of a challenge. Something simple like this North Borneo 1909 10c.

I do like the 1970 Butterflies and 1979 Animal series. They need closer scrutiny.
