The great thing is about any variety that is on an FDC, is there is no possibility it is a surface scratch etc as can occur on postally used copies. :!:

Castores,

I like what you are doing here. Thank you.

Here are some of my own.

Note that with my examples the sheet position and the location of the variety on the stamp are correct (according to the ACSC and McCleary), but often some imagination is required. I will indicate those cases where I simply cannot see the variety. In those cases, the variety has yet to appear, or has been retouched, or is simply too small for me to see even with magnification.

Thank you Philip.

I originally looked at starting with the QE II defins (1c - 7c) and thought better of it!

So thank you for your contribution, I will make sure I have it on screen along with BW when I do get to them.

And yes, without a positional block some would be impossible to find.

Jumping forward a bit.

Australia 1967 5¢ Blue QEII *DOUBLE PERFS*!: Margin to margin Mint strip of 20, with columns 3 to 10 all showing striking “Double Perforation”. ACSC says believed to be the result of a weird attempt by Stamp Printer to correct sheets which showed some columns imperforate. Only ONE sheet was found thus according to ACSC, and thus is likely the largest multiple surviving after 53 years as broken down now. (The ACSC photo is only a block 4.) ACSC 444bc, cat AU$1,200++ in the ancient 2002 last Decimal catalogue. Even on the ½d and 1d Kangaroos Double perfs, of which MANY exist, ACSC is $A600 and $A500 a SINGLE respectively, so this is wildly under-catalogued. NEVER seen another. Surely be a $2,500 piece, if that Edition was updated. Such repairs were the normal in the States and Roos period way over a Century back, BUT in the Australian decimal era, totally unheard of, except for this one example. $A800 (Stock 7923LA)

Rigs .. . I generally tend to like the larger to see flaws as my eyes are not as good as they once were!

Bought a thick Gibbons ROYAL springback album today that has a Juicy hoard of Decimal mint blocks with sheet numbers, butters, and varieties for the early Decimal issues 1966 up to 1980s. Many Booklet panes inc scarce MUH 1966 4c reds, ($30 each!) 1971 Xmas Block, different papers, gums, and constant vars noted in 1966 Queen heads in large Mint blocks etc, and on the 1966/67 Coil strips etc and lots of commems of the 60s/70s.

All bought as new issues at the time when constant varieties were written up in the magazines at the time.

Block unfolded MUH 1968 Soil Medical gutter pairs etc, postally used IMPERF singles from Cook mini sheet, good sets mint, 1966 Defins mint to $4, and an extra mint set with the SUPER wide selvedge from the initial sheets of 50 not 100. All sort of kind of mint variety blocks with ACSC vars noted etc. Untouched for 40 years. Lovely clean lot, It will be $175 for someone who wants a goldmine lot to play with. (Stock 893JW)

11.30pm now, and no energy to take photo for a half hour!

Mentioned it here as it seems we have several folks keen on this material. Has a lot of FACE in the Mint, and a lot of value on the normal mint and used sets.

Further to previous post.

1978 - 1984 Australian Birds

22c White-Tailed Kingfisher issued 31 March 1980
807h: Large void in brown shading over "Kingfisher"

There is not an example in BW so this is my assumption.
Normal vs 807h
807 n cl.jpg
807hi and cl.jpg
Now here's where it gets interesting, the full stamp.
Stay here before moving on, shouldn't be too hard to spot.
(Note, I almost missed it.... forest, trees, that sort of thing  Though I was concerning myself with BRC.)
807hi and 900.jpg
Section of interest (not to mention the whole rock is mostly lacking in brown).
Any thoughts? please

I love these descriptions (and so true aren't they?):

Row 1 No. 9. Recut lower left frame (considerable imagination required)
Row 3 No. 3. Recut lower left frame (one for the imagination)
Thank you Philip.

On matters "small", I want emphasise that none of the varieties I identify are new discoveries.

When I returned to stamp collecting I thought that I would make my mark with Decimal varieties, so I started to buy up sheets and blocks with the hope of discovering plated constant varieties.

Too difficult! I then discovered the beauty of pre-decimals and particularly the Kangaroos and off I went to explore those areas.

For a break, I occasionally return to the decimals. I bought the three-volume ACSC decimal catalogue and most importantly, I discovered David McCleary's notes on Australian Decimal Varieties.

Now, armed with the ACSC and McCleary books and with past assistance from Bryan Young (dec.), the consulting editor of the ACSC decimals, I can identify where many recuts, etc., should be located - even though half the time I cannot see anything!

The new software allowing images to be loaded from laptops or phones has made life a LOT easier.

HOWEVER, there is a "bug" in the system ... that where it sees an attachment file it bunches that up with the lines of text above and below it.

Stampboards is a tidy, clean and neat and uncluttered board, and I spend hours each day (time I do not have to spare) as do other Moderators, editing bunched up posts, as members almost NEVER use the PREVIEW button first, where of course they would immediately see their post was jammed up, and cluttered and ugly!

They of course DO see it when made, but also never bother to then go and edit it, and tidy it up and unjam things. The following is a handy tutorial on HOW to do this.

So you might see this in your POST A REPLY BOX -

Image

YES it looks all normal and correct. BUT that will post all jammed up tight and ugly, with no spaces between image and text. Do not ask me why - it is just an annoying BUG in the phpBB software that we cannot change. But we can work around it.

Members need to always manually add an EXTRA hit or two of the ENTER or RETURN key before an after attached images or headings. (Or use the right angle arrow head graphic on your phone, or some keyboards.) OR manually add a period or dot between them as shown, if that is simpler for you to remember.

BOTH achieve air and space, and unjam things.

Image

Yes it looks odd in the POST A REPLY box, but is clean and unjammed in the final post. DO highlight it all, and hit the CENTRE button for most image posts - generally looks far neater. And ALWAYS add a period/full stop between each attachment when using more than one together , i.e. (TEXT will look something like this, with dot/period between -)

[atttachment=0] atttachments 1..JPG[/atttachment]
.
[atttachment=1] atttachment 2.JPG[/atttachment]

This adds space and air between each image. As you can see.

So in short .. when using multiple attached images add a period/dot between each one, in EVERY case.

And WHEREVER you are attaching images add TWO ENTER/RETURN white spaces before and after where the image code is .. yes it looks strange in the EDIT POST box, but it DOES unjam posts. And CENTRE all narrow images.

I do it automatically and it works. Use your PREVIEW button until you get the hang of it. That will save endless hours of Moderator time tiding up ugly messes.

It is a new system, and a few extra seconds saves a ton of time of others, AND makes your posts look neat and tidy.

Thanks in advance!

Aren't there different states to these flaws and recuts etc?

I've seen a couple of BSAP monographs that do not list all states of flaws - not necessarily the the detail one wishes to see. Keeps one looking and guessing.

Yes, a number of states with a number of them (as it should be with wear)
I'm young (stamp-wise) but it seems very messy.
I'm starting to think there are a number of constant flaws on decimal stamps but
a. BW hasn't bothered (if they do, where do they stop? Floodgates open!)
b. we find them, no-one posts, they stay transient.

Anyway, that's my view.

What do you think Kainnikanada? like with the KG Vs, a number of flaws continue to evolve.
You know better than me :D
Makes you wonder whether with some there should be a grade-scale, I suppose there is (f - fg for example).

consider for a moment..........

The amount of 'stamp brain' in StampBoards is huge.

I hope you picture it as I do, otherwise - it's pretty scary.
