I was admonished for doing such things :o

What makes it easier is to just hit enter wherever there should be a gap and once finished typing, add "Addspace" in each spot (rather than as you go).

Click, click click.

I must say, I have learnt a lot through the journey to date.

I can look at a stamp of this era now and know what year and where to look for of the known flaws. The images are well stored in my head by now.

I am still very naive in the world of stamps but I have started to feel more 'comfortable'.

I previously spent ages looking for what I now see as 'obvious' examples of the flaws.
I would spend many hours scanning stamps for the flaw not really knowing what I was looking for.
B.W. is very good but images have a lot to be desired, so until you 'see' for real the flaw some stay a bit confusing.

That's what I enjoy most about this thread, I/we are providing much better examples of the stamps listed and as such should make identification (for all) so much easier (I know how frustrating it has been for me).

No it isn't.

That simply does not work if you have 4 or 5 images in a row loaded direct'- they will all post, jammed up tight.

Adding the enter key 100 times between attachments makes ZERO difference. They remain all jammed up. It is WASTE of time.

Adding a full stop period even, or the AddSpace button we just added DOES add white space between them -

That 'Addspace' button is fickle. Doesn't always work. I'm having issues using it on the Archival wiki I'm currently working on. Periodically I can see a line space, between text and image, without it inserted which is supposed to be an impossible situation. If this happens and an 'Addspace' is inserted I see a double space(?)!

I looked at "Australia" to tell the difference between "f" & "g"
With "g" the first part of "Australia" is also very weak
While with "f" this is not the case
(as is the case with the images in Brusden White)

"f" followed by "g"

With my example of "g" if you look very closely the back leg on the left has a very small white strip.

castores,

Its a very good chance that rather than weak or non-existent shade lines, the paleness is due to inking issues at the time of printing and/or fading post-printing.

These QE2 stamps were printed with the older recess technology, and so are subject to inking variation much more than the later Photogravure Decimals.

Philip,

I'm going with that as the stamp itself has not been exposed to light in any way for many many years and the actual stamp is very deep in colour compared to my other stamps.

If you go back to the side-on-side example you can see it is richer than the mint stamp in colour.

Re: Share your Australian Decimal Stamp Varieties (ACSC listed or not)

Post by castores »

Administrators,

Is it okay to change the title to:

"Share your Australian Decimal Stamp Varieties (ACSC listed or not)"

Reason being this would mean we could include die I & II types (eg 1976 75th Anniversary of Nationhood).

I have also considered taking photos of the various stamps under UV so as to show the various reactions that show up in the listed varieties (striking differences that, apart from being 'colour aligned' to the camera/computer, would show the stark (in some cases) difference in each type (as listed in ACSC)).

As such would be of help in determining the "a" type varieties from ACSC.
Helecon, non-helecon, bluish paper,cream, etc.

Change to title?

I guess maybe it's up to me?

Is it possible for a mod to move this to the wiki and this thread can then be used as a posting thread for the three coming decimal wiki's

Does the top right stamp also have an additional orange triangle on the larger gem? It's hard to tell from the scan.
Started collecting Commonwealth Australian stamps. Then Australian kangaroo flaws. Then Australian pre-decimal flaws. Have now got my eye on worldwide birds, animals, gardening/backyards and engraved beauties. Oh, and maybe volcanoes. Who knows what tomorrow will bring

Nothing I can see there Anita, the orange is stronger on that stamp and slight shifting of colours can change the 'look'
I think you are talking about the very top of the uncut gem? If so, the greens and blues are shifted up a bit exposing the orange that is there on all of them. Have I made sense?

I do note that the lower left stamp, cut gem, lower right black edge is nicely out of place (shifted right).

In saying you couldn't tell from the scan I offer the following in case you're not aware - save the image and then open it up in (whatever program) and you should have no problem (enlarging, etc). Please excuse and ignore me if this is not what you meant.

I have now found two very distinctive examples of this,
glad I posted this stamp, thankfully someone else found an example also - Me! 8-)
In fact on second look, 2nd stamp "AUSTRLIA" has a retouch also.

Apart from the above post of the 2c Sturt's Desert Rose retouch,

This would have to be my favourite image on this thread so far.

Because it was a very exhaustive process to find them all,

Let alone put the image together.
