Forget IMGUR or photobucket or ImageShack etc from now on.

From June 1, 2020, since our major tech update, you can add images here directly from your phone or laptop or tablet etc -

I'm sure I'm missing something here.....I am having trouble post pics thru IMGUR. Msg says "Not able to determine dimensions of picture"! Can someone tell me if I need to change something here? Picture dimentions are well below 800 pixels, etc.
Thanks

The introductory post talks about Photobucket, but I thought that we are using Imgur?
Are there any instructions on how to upload photos from a smartphone or tablet (say an IPad) please?

Well this thread is 3 years old.

We no longer use photobucket as they held all images to a $US400 a year ransom per user. Use IMGUR for all images here please.

Thanks

The problem that I have is that, I cannot upload stamps on here via IGMUR on an iPad. I have tried both the app and the website. Neither of them allow me to upload as per the instructions. Neither is set up like the first post on how to upload photos.

I was wondering if there was any way of doing it via IGMUR on an iPad. The only way that I can do it, is if I send the photos to me, download them onto my computer and upload that way.

From the Imgur website:

"iOS App
Hit the camera icon in the bottom center of the screen. You can take a photo using your camera, upload from your phone's gallery, or from ‘Reaction’ (a collection of funny GIFs). After selecting all of the images you'd like to upload, tap the next button top right.

The option to make the image(s) private or submitted publicly to the gallery can be decided by selecting the ‘public’ option below the post title text box. The "Hidden" option will simply upload the images, so make sure you're logged into your account if you want to save the link. The "Public" option will upload the post and also publish it into the public gallery, which follows our community rules...."

The short answer is, that if there is a way it defeats me too.

I've tried pretty much everything and played with every setting I can find but there is no way of doing it.

All I normally do is take the image on the iPhone or iPad, upload to imgur and then go in on my laptop to edit to the correct size and grab the correct link for these boards.

That's fine, but unless you can change the size of your the photo taken on the iPhone or iPad before uploading to Imgur, you are still stuffed when it comes to putting it on Stampboards because, as it says on the 'Editing images' help page on Imgur (https://help.imgur.com/hc/en-us/articles/210077233-Editing-Images):

"Currently editing is only available using desktop and not on our apps or mobile web."

So it is possible to add files, but you still need the desktop site to change the size. Given those constraints the other option - which works if you have a few images - is to email them or message them to yourself from the iPad/Phone, open the message/email on your computer and download the photos.

Then from Finder, drag and drop to the Imgur desktop site having selected the appropriate folder and checked the image size in Imgur upload settings.

Imgur on iPad is fine for memes and using images where size doesn't matter (like a blog). But where size limitations are enforced, such as here, then the images cannot be added.

If you had recently viewed the selling page you may have seen the issues I had uploading photos directly from an iPhone as they were uploading sideways despite being the correct way round on my phone.

Thanks to excellent help from members JonEboy, Bennitch and KenLondon I have been able to rectify this glitch by rotating the images 360 degrees in my phone photos and then saving them again.

All photos then uploaded the correct way round. I hope this will also help others who prefer using their phone for images over scanning.

I was actually being 100% serious about where it came from. Though I may seem less serious with my picture upside down. Not sure how that happened.

Quire a few of my, and Ubobo's posts, although perfectly right way up on our files have become upside down or turned sideways when posted. This has only happened in the last 3-4 days and mostly with large/wide images. I,too, wonder why?

As regards high end kiloware, I suggest you investigate Nordfrim as they seem to specialise in kiloware. I am sure that there will be other dealers with kiloware deals.

1. Images taken on mobile devices often show 'right way up' on those devices but load here on a different orientation. I have noticed some of the photos posted on my World Tour thread are sideways.

2. The solution is to open them on your device - I'm posting iPhoto pics via a desktop iMac - and rotate through 360º - yes, right the way round. Then try loading them in SB, and they ought to be right way up, whether landscape or portrait.

3. If you notice that some appear the wrong way, when you 'Preview' on SB (you always do that don't you? :) ) delete from the draft, do as in para 2, and then reload into the same post and preview. Oh, and if you are adding a caption, then it's a good idea to copy that so that you can paste it for the adjusted image rather than retyping it.

Works for me - so far.

Just for the record Ian, none of Ubobo's or mine images were taken on a device other than a scanner and were right way up when viewed post scanning. They were then transferred to a flash drive and transferred to computer files. When viewed via flash drive and on computer file, they were right way up. When, then posted, they were topsy turvey.

Deletion and reposting produced the same end result and yes, we preview everything before posting. In my case many of the upside down and sideways images were previewed 4-5 times, always topsy turvey, being deleted and trying again, before accepting the inevitable!

Small sized things being scanned seem to remain right way up but larger sized images seem to attract this glitch and not in every case.

Deleting, rotating, and reposting should produce the right result.

I have asked the question on the " Test and post your images direct....." thread as it does not involve ipad or iphone as neither Waffle and I possess these items.

Removing the EXIF metadata from the image will force the website to process the image as-is.

Two queries.

Why are you taking the intermediate step with the flash drive? Can't your computer operate the scanner directly and save the scan?

If the problem is confined to large item scans, you might find that the orientation of item during the scanning process is the problem. Somewhere after that during device handshaking, could the original aspect be hardcoded as correct?

In either case if you provide the info about the models of the devices you use, it may help analyse the specific issue causing the problem.

Ken. I do the scanning for Waffle so the original scans are on my computer.

Copies are then sent to his flash drive.

Images are the right way up on my computer and his flash drive.

Well here's a suggestion - lets get Waffle to join the rest of us in 2020, spend $100 on a Cano Lide scanner like everyone else uses, successfully -

And hours of everyone else time will be saved, changing his diapers. :!: :!: :!:

Ken. I do the scanning for Waffle so the original scans are on my computer.

Copies are then sent to his flash drive.

If the EXIF data is removed from the images before they are sent to Waffle, that will do the trick. Right-click on a photo using Windows Explorer and choose Properties. On the Details tab, if you see anything like the Camera Model, F-Stop, Exposure Time, etc., then the EXIF data is there, and this is where the website is getting its cues from.

When I take a photo using my Canon DSLR and display it on my pc screen (using the Canon software provided with the camera), it "automatically" adjusts for the way I held the camera (portrait/landscape) when the photo was taken. This information is held in the EXIF area of the resultant image file.

However, not all image display/editing software is EXIF-savvy, so some display software will not attempt to interpret the EXIF metadata. This is what is happening when "proving" it is the right way up on your computer/flash drive. The website software, by contrast, is EXIF-savvy.
