Can We add these words to the phpBB dictionary?

Post by RobRoyH »

A very minor point.
Image
Obligatory Image - Note the red underlined words!
I have taught MS-Word to accept my specialized vocabulary spellings but am always slightly irritated to see the editor here on Stampboards arguing with me.

Stampboards
Definitives
Commemoratives

I am sure others might be able to think of some also.

What spell checks you have (or do not have!) loaded on your browser is up to you.

Nothing to do with us.

You can load all kinds of free extra ones if you prefer.

I forget which one I found, but it is brilliant.

Works on all sites I visit, not just stampboards of course.

Be wary of a nation that spells colour as ‘color’, I say.

Or any nation that spells Catalog as Catalogue!

We can thank our American cousins for murdering English spellings in 100s of ways like gray, color, catalog, center, checks, liter, jewelry, standardize etc, etc, and should be thankful they are actively working on ruining many other perfectly good words.

In my lifetime we will see "yot" being perfectly acceptable there - why not?

In the meantime, we graciously allow here, correct English, and American ''English'' - at no extra cost to anyone!

I am trying very had to always say 27 March, 2020 or 27/03/2020 as a misunderstanding here can be bad.

If I am spelling, unlike my wife whose super-power is spelling, you are lucky to get anything better than the proverbial Chimpanzee on a typewriter trying to duplicate Shakespeare.

I would be lost without those red underlines, and you would be convinced I am not only an irritating Yank, ( most irritating to a Texan), but also an idiot.

It’s alright, Texans are smart - thankfully they usually vote Republican

Unless they are from Austin, Houston, or Dallas.... where actual Yankees outnumber Texans by a wide margin.

A Rangers vs. Yankees match in Arlington, TX can resemble Scottish football.

The failure to like cricket is also worrying

Twenty years ago, (I have been here 24), Mansfield had a single building high school and students could still go out for "Rodeo" as a sport. The Cowbell Arena was active and held regular livestock auctions. I could hear coyotes at night and there were scorpions in the backyard. Hawks and Buzzards could still be seen circling overhead and I could still gaze in wonder at the Milky Way on a clear night.

Mansfield has changed a lot!

The Cowbell is gone and so is Rodeo. We have 4 public high schools. No coyotes and no scorpions and hawks are rare. Light pollution has washed out the night sky.

But Mansfield still retains a Texas flavor in many ways. It is a lot like Fort Worth vs. Dallas. If you stopped 10 people in downtown Fort Worth and asked about their opinion of Dallas... you would hear "bunch of dang Yankees".

If you did the Same in Dallas about Fort Worth... "bunch of darn Hicks and Bumpkins". I think it has been that way for 100 years.

As to Cricket... I might enjoy it but who knows. I catch a bit here and there from TV and movies but I think of it terms of Baseball mated with Tennis or Badminton.

Much like Rugby... I loved the movie "Invictus" but have never seen a match. I often dance sideways and shout Ooga-Booga at my basset Hounds to get them worked up for fun though.

I guess I think of Rugby as something like American Football mated with Rodeo, minus the Bulls!
