Tech issue with IMGUR images is now RESOLVED June 1

Post by Global Administrator »

June 1 update - adding the new board software today, that fully supported all htpps secure coded images, which seems to have solved this issue. Was as simple as that. :)

Naturally near all members will choose to load images here direct from their phone or laptop etc rather than using IMGUR or whatever, which the old software never allowed, which is of course much faster and the new software allows much larger sizes up to 1024 than our previous 900 x 900 max. Admin

April 22, 2020 update. https://www.IMGUR.com have a tech issue - whatever you try to load here, gets a "It was not possible to determine the dimensions of the image" in red error type message.

Do not waste your time trying right now - very annoying, and wastes everyone's time - they once were great and reliable - like photobucket once was.

We are working hard with them now to try and sort it, and will post here if we do, but in the MEANTIME -

We suggest you use the free https://www.imgbox.com or the even better https://www.imageshack.com - simple to use - see tutorial below. I use them all the time.

Use this thread to rest it out!

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=284

The update to the new phpBB software here soon means images should be able to be loaded direct to each thread. In the meantime please bear with us!

Since the crazy $500 a year photobucket Ransom demand of latter 2017, ruining 100,000s of older images here, we no longer want to see ANY images to be posted here using photobucket. In 2019 they started doing idiotic things like adding massive ad ''watermarks'' to YOUR photos, and/or blurring images for non paid accounts. Do NOT ever use photobucket - once our preferred image hoster.

Use only use the free https://www.imgbox.com or the even better https://www.imageshack.com IMGBOX has pop ups to very slightly racy ads appear now and again, so some prefer not to use it. (So always check the FAMILY CONTENT box as shown for your images!) But do NOT close or delete your photobucket or IMGUR accounts.

https://www.imgbox.com is totally free, and simple to use - here are the basics -
Image
Image

Image
Choose the ''800 x 800 RESIZED'' from the drop down choices. If you choose ''SQUARE'', any oblong stamp will post here SQUARE, or will show cropped off entirely at top or sides. :)
Image

Choose link in the ''BB CODE'' option as shown at right - and as always manually delete the letter "s" after ''https'' from this string you copy, as you need to do on all images under current software.
***********************************
https://www.imageshack.com is also a cinch to use -

The update to the new phpBB software here soon means images should be able to be loaded direct to each thread. In the meantime please bear with us!

DO NOT USE IMGUR.COM until be hopefully sort out their tech issue -

I made one post this morning & it was fine. My next post on same thread a few minutes later threw up these issues.

I checked that sizes of image all within 800 x 600 size & they were. I even tried one that was 640 x 480, same issue.

Went to edit the post that I had made this morning & when I pressed preview it now came up with the same issue (even though it had posted perfectly a few minutes before.) :?

Are imageshack service conditions different in different countries?

It's no longer FREE for forum purposes from the UK, anyhow, as my previous stated "free trial" expired after 30 days. (I don't recall this being mentioned at the time).

"Important Content Delivery Policy Change" message;
"Any free accounts (non-premium) will no longer deliver images to any sites, blogs or forums. This change will be implemented by November 1st, 2015. If you have a free account, have images that are linked to any sites, blogs or forums and want to continue to have images delivered to those pages, please convert to premium* account here: https://imageshack.us/upgrade, for only $3.99/mo, you will continue to have unlimited storage and unlimited delivery of your images"

(This is actually https://imageshack.com despite https://imageshack.us in the above message).

No-one said Imageshack was free. If the cost of a coffee will bankrupt you, use the free IMGBOX as outlined.

Cheers. I wasn't certain there was no free lunch on Imageshack any longer as that hadn't been visibly highlighted on the threads I checked and policies/costs can and do differ between countries. It's less than $399/year; for now, anyhow!

Imgbox isn't viewable in India (and possibly elsewhere) as noted on the other thread.

$3.99 a month is the cost of a coffee. Most will not need use it for outside the moth free trial anyway as our upgrade is well underway.

$3.99 a month is not $399 a year. Not even in Scotland.

It's less than $399 that Photobucket are charging nowadays.

Admittedly that's quite an easy number for any sensible company to undercut!

Hi,

Does this mean that Imgur is no longer a viable option?

Cheers,

ImageShack - Trial Account

Post by Tom-Crewe »

Since other hiccups I have started using ImageShack to upload pictures.

Just been on the site to upload some more and seen I only have 16 days left, so in the 16 days will all the pictures I have uploaded to this forum disappear?

What alternative uploader will this forum use?

I use Flickr and Photobox for all my other pictures, they are free, I don't want to and will not pay just for showing pictures on this forum.

The ads are NSWF though.

I don't think your pictures will disappear and you will still have access to them on the site. You just wouldn't be able to upload any more.

I was always puzzled about the business model of Imgur which neither had ads nor asked for a subscription. Perhaps this latest "hiccup" is a precursor to the latter?

Personally I would be quite happy to pay a small sub. to them or Imageshack. However, I understood that some direct arrangement through this Board was going to appear?

As far as Imgebox is concerned I would be suspicious of a site which appears to sell pornography! (Also would object due to the exploitation inevitably involved in such activities).

I've used IMGBOX and have set my specifications to "FAMILY SAFE CONTENT" prior to uploading. I have posted maybe 200 pics over the last two weeks and have never seen any Not Safe For Work advertisements - or any advertisements for that matter.
