I have:

- 2005 Unitrade Specialized Catalogue of Canadian Stamps
- 2009 Scott Catalogues (all 6 volumes - but I certainly did not get the great deal tacomabob did  )

The majority of my collection is Canadian stamps, so the Unitrade catalogue is infinitely helpful for identifying them. I've been focusing on other areas lately and not keeping up with the latest Canadian issues as much, so the 2005 catalogue still works great for me. I especially like the detail and the fact that every stamp is pictured (not just one of a set/series).

For everything else, there's my Scotts! I'd love to get my hands on newer issues, but I'm not really too worried about current values - mostly just identifying stamps I have & getting enough info to add them to my database.

I have the following:

1. 2013 Brusden White (BW) Australian Kangaroo Catalogue.
2. 2013 BW Australian Postal Stationary Catalogue
3. 2013 Stanley Gibbons (SG) Australia catalogue.
4. 2012 Scott USA Specialized.
5. 2008 Scott Australia, etc. (bought Volume 1 at local club meeting for $1 and took Australia, etc). Only bought for cross referencing to SG since USA (& other) sellers use Scott #'s.
6. 2011 Brookman. (has USA, Canada, etc)
7. 1990 The Australian Air Mail Catalogue. (AAMC). Paid a penny plus $3.99 shipping. Bonus is it is signed by the author! :)
8. 1946 Catalogue of Australian stamps. (neat copy to have).

#1 & #2 bought from Glen and got nice CTO stamps on the packages! No worthless meters like I get from the SG USA distributor, auction houses, Amazon & the majority of eBay sellers!

Wish list:

1. Used 2008 copy of AAMC preferably from USA seller.
2. Other BW Australian catalogues. (King George V heads, etc.)

I'm not sure why the creator of this thread is interested but i'm fascinated to find out about catalogs I would not have otherwise even heard of. Ideally I would love to own a catalog specific to each country or region at some point. :D

I guess I can play along. 8)

2011 Scott 6 Volume set (still looking for a cheap Specialized Scott)
2012 Unitrade
2007/2008 Michel Naher Osten

I collect Middle East, mainly, so I have:
SG Part 19 Middle East (expensive, bought in Oman)
Michel Gulf States 2013 (English - v. expensive)
and - acquired for free with pre-unification Emirates stamps
from a second-hand shop in Guernsey -
Minkus Trucial States 1974-75
But when in the UK and while we still have public libraries, I use
whatever SG World issue they have, for free!

Funny idea to ask people to list the catalogues they have ... no, I am not going to oblige, my two shelf meters of catalogues or more would only bore you

I find it striking (and revealing) that no one mentions Yvert et Tellier. Perhaps for good reasons. When I tried to find out which volume covers my collecting area (Oman including British Postal Agencies in Eastern Arabia and Muscat and Oman, UAE, Trucial States and all the 7 emirates before unification in 1971/72), I realised that they are spread over so many volumes that I would have to buy the whole outre-mer edition of several volumes. Crazy. With Michel I find everything I need in the English Gulf States or the German Naher Osten catalogue, and with Stanley Gibbons in Part 19 Middle East. In Scott, I need at least only the Oman part for BrPOEA, Muscat & Oman and Oman - spread, if I remember correctly, over 3 volumes in Yvert!

Joachim
Collecting anything related to Oman. This includes India used in Muscat and Gwadur, British overprints used in Muscat,
Muscat & Oman, Sultanate of Oman, rebel issues State of Oman & Dhufar. And also non-philatelic material!

Interesting question.

I have all Scott catalogues, probably since my primary interest has long been US stamps

Here we go (note, the first one was my father's :D )

1936 Worldwide
1967 Combined worldwide
1968 US Specialized
1969 US Specialized
1972 Volume I US and British Commonwealth
1999 US Specialized
2010 Nations G - I

Not a lot of volumes, but they usually meet my basic research needs.

Yes pookie9121 it has grown a little and it's not half obvious that my interests lie predominately within Australian issues. :) .

I honestly hadn't realised how many I had until I compiled this list and I had forgotten to include the three volume "Comprehensive" Australian Stamp Cataloque set.

Some of them are investments in themselves but the best thing is I have answers at my fingertips for any question I may have.

Apart from Germany I dont collect anything after about 1990 so these cover my needs (at the moment):

2011 Maury - Timbres de France
2003 Michel - Deutschland Spezial (2 Vols)
1996/97 Michel - Europa-Ost
1995/96 Michel - Europa-West (2 Vols A-Z)
1994/95 Michel - Deutschland
1994 Michel - Übersee 4 - Australien, Malaiischer Archipel, Ozeanean
1993 Michel - Übersee 3 - Afrika (2 Vols A-Z)
1992 Michel - Übersee 2 - Südamerika
1992 Unitrade - Specialized Catalogue of Canadian Stamps
1991/92 Michel - Übersee 5 - Asien (2 Vols A-Z)
1991 Michel - Übersee 1 - Mittel & Nordamerika
1990 Michel - Großbritannien Spezial

Of course the Michels are in black and white (apart from the simplified Germany) which is a pain. I tend to use online catalogues where they are available just to find the stamp and year and then look up any details in Michel.

I believe the first colour Michels for overseas started in 2012 and they are still very pricey. I will wait a few years and then start picking them up cheaper and replace my old ones.

I see that the latest Great Britain Special is over 1000 pages compared to my 550 pages so I think that might be the first one on my list or maybe I will go for an SG.

Cheers,
Chris

I was pleased to see that Yvert et Tellier now produce a Middle East catalogue, as Stanley Gibbons and Michel have already done since many years. Their announcement is for

"Catalogue mondial de cotation timbres, Yvert et Tellier. - Nouveau tome Asie. -
Volume 1, Moyen Orient, Edition 2015. Il est désormais tout en couleurs. Parution prévue 15 septembre 2014. Ce volume contient les émissions suivantes :

Aden - Alaouites - Alexandrette - Arabie Saoudite-Arabie du Sud-Arabie du Sud Est - Bahrain - Bouchir - Cilicie - Emirats arabes unis - Grand Liban - Irak - Iran - Israël - Jerusalem - Jordanie - Koweit - Lattaquié - Levant (colonies) - Levant (Europe) - Liban - Mascate - Moyen Orient - Oman - Palestine etc."

Has anyone already seen the new catalogue?

I am always getting reaady with catalogues for what I hope to do - and it always takes longer to get there.

I use ACSC for Australia, but also SG Part 1 for earlier states, and later than ACSC goes.

The Part1 gets lots of use for Commonwealth countries going right back. I like to collect by watermark differences, perf differences and more-observable shades.

I have the SG Specialised GB volumes, and also Deegam's Machins disc; Deegam is so complicated I still have to approach working his way.

Then I have many Europe and regional SG catalogues, to get the watermark, etc, elements; I work often with very old collections from early 20th century, and going back often to 1860s.

Scott specialised is wonderful for old USA, and I like Unitrade for detailed Canada - my Unitrade is early 2000s.
There;s a few others, but not used as much.

Got my tax refund and decided to use part of it to treat myself to some more specialized catalogs for my philatelic library via order thru collectura.com in the Netherlands (a great source for specialized catalogs)

Image

Leftmost Row - OBP Belgium 2016, 61e (top) and Belgian Colonies/Successor States (bottom)

Top Row Across - 1) NVPH Netherlands and Former Colonies 2016 Speciale Catalogus, 75e (Hardcover!), 2) Philatelica Hungarica 2016-2017 Hungary Specialized (Hardcover!), 3) Tracinda South Africa Stamp Colour Catalogue 2013, 32e (was on sale for ~US$42.00), 4) Zonnenbloem Indonesia 2016, 54e

Bottom Row Across - 1) Michel Germany Specialized 2014, 44e (was on sale for ~US$50.00) 2) Hibernian Ireland 2014, 2e (ordered direct from publisher, not from collectura) 3) Sassone Italy Specialized 2016 v. 1, 75e (Hardcover!)

Overall a nice little investment in my philatelic library that will give me years of use as I build up my collections in these areas.

ETA : And a pic of my specialized catalog library, so far 8)

If you have the curiosity to compare catalogues, it's possible to download a Scott's world stamps catalogue of 1916 under Creative Commons licence.

https://archive.org/details/Scotts1916StampCatalogue
Looking for used stamps and postcards on board games, except chess (checkers, dominos, go game, backgammon), traditional children's games (hopscotch, kites, spinning top, hide and seek, hoops), traditional games of adults (traditional wrestlings, bowls, petanque...) and computer or video games

Elcooperativo, would you mind to post that link also into my FREE internet stamp catalogues thread http://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=60568#p4112254? That would make it easier to find.

Just released - SG Arabia Issue 1, covering Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman etc.
Handy size - 170 x 240 mm (6.7 x 9.5 in).
Many catalogue prices updated, and some additions/alterations.
I only received this yesterday, so I cannot comment on details, but
as this covers all the countries in which I am interested in a practical
volume, I look forward to using it. Stamps issued for most countries
up to late 2014 - and in some cases early 2015 - are listed.

Crazy. With Michel I find everything I need in the English Gulf States or the German Naher Osten catalogue, and with Stanley Gibbons in Part 19 Middle East. Phil, you are quoting my very old message of September 2013. A year ago already (in response to my posting   ??), Yvert & Tellier issued their area catalogue "Moyen-Orient - de Aden à Yémen" which covers the Arabian Pensinsula, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon and Palestine/Israel.

ISBN 978-2-86814-245-0, €44.90

Cheers
Joachim

(PS: But Yvert Tellier overlooked Oman SG321a / Michel 291 II, if this is of interest to you)
Collecting anything related to Oman. This includes India used in Muscat and Gwadur, British overprints used in Muscat,
Muscat & Oman, Sultanate of Oman, rebel issues State of Oman & Dhufar. And also non-philatelic material!

ImageImage

another one of those gorgeous hardcover reference "coffee table" books, with all sorts of cool information on varieties etc not found in Scott and other general catalogs.

Well worth the US$90 cost for the book and shipping it from Santiago.

Now if only Mexico had a similar catalog I'd be so happy.

Want to thank Glen for hooking me up with the Brusden-Whites, and for packaging them well, as the postman left the parcels on the open-air stoop at my front door, and the rain was bucketing down pretty heavily.

Thankfully neither the Brusden-Whites or the Campbell-Patersons were damaged while sitting out among the elements.

Two more nations checked off the list for specialized catalogs :)

So I pay $15 extra for PO Insured mail, write INSURED all all sides in big letters, plus Sharpie red lines on all sides, and USPS does not even have you sign for a 3 kilo - 7 pound carton and leaves it out in the rain?

Seems pretty poor service to me.

Did all that superb CTO franking used on the parcel get wet?

They were pretty damp but trying to see if I can salvage some of them. At least it was better than the package from C-P which had the NZ stamps on the outside, they were pretty much ruined between water, rubbing against other packages and less than careful handling by the postal people.

At least the catalogs were not damaged in either case. But yes I was more than a little upset with how the postman left the packages, especially since they were supposed to have been signed for. :x

Latest acquisition to my specialized catalog library

Karamitsos Hellas 2016 3vol set. Total cost was only 60 Euros including shipping to the USA. Excellent, full color catalogs printed on glossy paper with info in both Greek and English.

vol 1 Greece issues 1861-1959
vol 2 Greece issues 1960-present
vol 3 Greece regional issues - Crete, Italian Aegean Islands, German Occupations, Balkan War territories, French & Italian post offices in Greece

Not bad at all for just 60 Euros total. 20 Euro/volume is a bargain.

From the sunny vineyards of Greece now to enjoy a Pisner in its original birthplace as I work my way thru these

Took advantage of the recent drop in the Pound to 30-yr lows vs the US$ as a result of the Leave victory to fill my gaps in Gibbons specialized catalogs.

Fascinating the amount of Catalogues and reference books we all have. I did think mine would be a very short list compared to some, but, as one poster has said, once you write it all down, its a list all right.

SG Great Britain Specialised Vol 1, 12th edition.
SG Great Britain Specialised Vol 2, 13th edition.
SG Great Britain Specialised Vol 3, 12th edition.
SG Great Britain Concise 2002
SG British Empire Part 1 1941
Connoisseur Catalogue of Machin Stamps 8th Edition
The Postage Stamps of Great Britain Part 4 by the RPS (1957)
Commonwealth B&K Five Reigns Catalogue 1971

Interesting story around the B&K Five Reigns catalogue.
I added this to an ebay sale of some old albums and European stamps that went to Germany. A few months later I bought at a UK auction a 'bargain GB Box' and found my very own B&K catalogue in with it, still with my bookmark cut from an old postcard and my name inside the cover! My wife says this is fate and the catalogue and I are destined to be together......
