Where to order Yang Stamp Catalogues for Hong Kong and PRC??

Post by DJCMH »

Went to the Yang Stamp Service website http://www.yangsstamp.iyp.hk/ and saw the listings for the Hong Kong 2015 edition and PRC 1949-2011 volume, but I see no way to order them for shipping to the USA? Am I missing something???

No, you're not missing anything. That feeble website is neither use nor ornament. You might try emailing them at :
yangtak2012(at)yahoo.com.hk.

That's the address printed in the 24th edition (2015) of the catalogue.

Incidentally, the same typos and errors still exist in the latest catalogue, that were in the previous version(s).

If you're not in a hurry I can pop in to his shop and try to get either / both and post direct to you. I'm not back in HK until mid August but if you don't get any luck direct and you want me to try let me know. Good luck!

I have to ask - why on earth would anyone bother with Yang?

I looked at my recent Yang HK cat yesterday and it was near useless, and went back to SG.

The new and revamped SG is a MUST for this region. Endless price adjustments, up AND down. Over 500 colour pages. (And no silly typos all through it!)

Apart from the stamps of the current issuing countries noted above, the Stanley Gibbons "China" Catalogue covers a number of other areas of interest in this popular region - all using SG numbers, that MEAN something globally! :

Municipal Posts of Treaty Ports - Chinese Empire - Chinese Imperial Post - Chinese Republic - Chinese Provinces - Communist China -Japanese Occupation of China - British Post Offices in China - China Expeditionary Force -French Post Offices in China - German Post Offices in China - Indo-Chinese Post Offices - Italian Post Office - Japanese Post Offices -Russian Post Offices - United States Postal Agency in Shanghai - Chinese Post Offices in Korea - Japanese Occupation of Hong Kong - Kiachow - Kwangchow - British Post Office in Macao - Manchukuo - Tibet

One good thing about Yang's HK catalogue is that it includes listings for postal stationery. I've always found their treatment of the registered envelopes a bit lazy (guess it's space-saving to just have the table they do, but illustrations would still help).

The new edition is noticeably thicker than the previous one; but that's probably just because of all the pages of new issue commems listed.

If you do wish a copy of either/both catalogues, I could pick them up and mail them to you, have done that for quite a number of Stampboarders. There's also the 2-volume set for China by Chan that is quite good.

I have only seen it offered as a set of 2, was not sure if single volumes can be purchased.

I googled it, and the auction house Zurich Asia in HK, who have long offered the catalogue for sale, do state on their website that single volumes can be purchased:

http://www.zurichasia.com/eng/about-us/chans-catalogue/17/

They say an order needs to be made by email, so they might not have stock in the office.

The Chan catalogue is also offered on eBay (from HK) as a set and single, but unfortunately, they only offer volume 1 as a single at this time. One option is to send a question to the seller asking if they have volume 2 available as a single.

Most recent edition of Yang PR China Catalogue??

Post by DJCMH »

Hi All
Yang 2009.jpg
Was able to pick up a used copy of the Yang PR China Forerunners (1930-1950) catalog so now I am looking to pick up a copy of the Post-1949 PR China catalogue

The most recent version I am seeing in the marketplace is 2009? Is that the most recent edition, or has there been a more recent edition published since?

Thanks for any information

Not the most unhelpful post in history, but certainly up there with some of the best.

I suppose it would be too much to ask for a link?

I remember there was that thread.

And searching Yourself using "Yang catalogue" is a possibility. Just a humble guess.

I did search. I found a number of references to a recent edition of the Yang Hong Kong catalogue, but not to the China catalogue.

I did post a thread with a similar question back in 2016 - mea culpa for not doing a full review of my posting history

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=71857'

(moderators I guess you can merge these threads so we have one Yang thread)

But checking some of the links posted in that thread are now coming up as dead-ends. The website http://www.yangsstamp.iyp.hk/ no longer seems to be in operation. Perhaps Yang is no longer in business (or at least not publishing catalogues - the most recent Hong Kong catalogue seems to be 2018).

Also the mention that there may be a PR China 2011 edition is not leading me to find any results in broader searches on the internet, so starting to think that 2009 might be the most recent edition.
