Heaps of FAKE stamps offered on ebay - Moonpig67 - WA seller

Post by MJ's pet »

BEWARE OF "MOONPIG67" FAKES ON EBAY
For quite some time now a seller in WA has been offering faked Australia States revenues (and some postage stamps) on ebay.

In terms of print quality and perforation, these are quite dangerous.

The seller - Moonpig67 - is quite open about it and offers these as FORGERIES starting at $10.
ImageImage
MOONPIG Fake Tasmanian Beer Duty on ebay, not marked FAKE as required
The thing is, they are not marked FAKE  or such permanently on the reverse as is required by the ebay listing rules.

While you are perfectly free to spend your money on such rubbish, they are very well produced. What kind of perforating equipment produces this result? A nice glazed gum on the back too. Whether Moonpig produces these himself (or herself) or whether they are just re-selling IDK but I have my suspicions.

The strange thing is Moonpig67 is otherwise quite a legit seller. They have real stamps and real antiques and things like that.

The thing is that these things will leech out into the wider marketplace. When the buyer dies, or sells, they have no control over what happens to their precious fakes.

I will post more scans and links later.

P.S. These are very obviously not "forgeries", defined as a stamp produced to deprive the issuer of revenue, or deceive later collectors.

Better termed, modern reproduction or replica.

The Brain dead ebay Bunnies are buying all this crap of course -

https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/moonpig67/m.html?item=1838735034 ... 6732.m1684

Please advise him of the clear ebay rules that replicas MUST be marked thus on reverse folks.

The dopes paid over $100 for this crudely printed set of 3 - 9 bidders - I have a GENUINE set for $600. Morons.

Well ebay INSISTS all replica stamps are marked on reverse and that marking MUST be shown on the lot photos.

Report the heck out of him and send him this link.

Ebay have revamped the rules re forged and faked and replica and counterfeit stamps.

Sellers now MUST mark fakes indelibly on reverse, and load a photo of that marking into the lot description.

Alterations (that includes forged perfins, overprints and cancels) and repairs MUST be noted now if known to seller, and sellers offering conga lines of the same fakes clearly DO know!

https://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/currstamps.html#replica_stamps

Image
Image

Also on EVERY ebay lot there is a “Report Item” icon – whether the sale is ended or not.

Reporting that via the simple drop-down options as shown below is a 5 second operation -
Image

Image
If ebay gets 5 or 10 reports on any given items they WILL generally take notice. They usually warn the user and remove the lot. Sellers getting several such removed lots are in trouble.

Let’s use ‘people power’ to stop this material getting offered.

Everyone “hoping” others act, will get nothing done - like most things in life! It takes teamwork and a Community Spirit, and the dodgy and misleading lots will be FAR less.

ebay now have set up a fast new portal JUST to report suspected sellers of forged stamps at - https://www.tinyurl.com/ebayfakes - also found at - https://www.ebay.com/scw - there is space for 10,000 characters in your reply, so all the relevant info can be added. Unlike most ebay complaint forms that allow just 100 characters etc.

Please take a moment to do BOTH ….. do the “Report Item” drop-down, and give a summary on the link above.

Most likely they will go to 2 different ebay staffers, and that is double trouble for the fakers.

Some staffers ignore such stuff, others are more pro-active – it is a lottery.

However several reports on any single item can be seen by all staffers looking at it, and that generally gets some action.

Even if 4 staffers have ignored it, the 5th staffer might see 5 reports and decide to act etc.

"People Power" - never under-estimate the value of it! 8)

Glen
Image
Ebay's OWN clear written rule is that Counterfeit Stamps are NOT allowed on ebay. Period. Remind them of their OWN rule, and it often does wonders. The average ebay Robot Drone in Bangladesh or Bombay or Bogan has never heard of that rule - REMIND them.

Funny that there are many of them, all clean as a whistle, undamaged and identical. Guess there are many more where that came from! Sounds like a shipment of them just came in from India! What a rort.

Rod, yes spivs like Moonpig67 clearly do not care, which is WHY ebay has the clear rule that sellers like ebay conman Moonpig67 MUST mark the reverse of each as REPLICA in indelible ink.

The more readers that report him, the quicker ebay will make him wish he read the rules.

As was pointed outabove not all that Moonpig67 sells on ebay are fakes and frauds (well the ''1860s Goldfield finds clay pipes'' are pretty devious) so if he stuck to old bottles, and badges etc, his reputation with ebay would stay clean.

Please everyone take a few minutes this week to report moonpig67 to ebay. Do not leave it to others. "Many hands make light work".

See this link for his current lots:

https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/moonpig67/m.html

Then follow Glen's guide and using the "REPORT ITEM" button on the bottom of each listing:

Yes moonpig67 is now knowingly flouting ebay's clear written rules. moonpig67 listed up more fakes with no indelible handstamps on reverse.

Has anyone contacted him direct? Send him AND ebay this link -

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=87195

These spivs never seen to realise that when someone searches their ebay name to see what reputation they have, they see this thread -

Not a great look for the ebay reputation of moonpig67

Brilliant work from MJ Pet and all that reported this spiv ebay seller moonpig67

Ebay has now wiped EVERYTHING in fake stamps this clown listed, which were dozens and dozens of items.

He will have received ebay sanctions and warnings as well.

PEOPLE POWER AT WORK --- a superb example of that here. And a clear warning to all other ebay spivs who plan to list up this garbage and not mark them indelibly on reverses, as the clear ebay rules INSIST ON.

Yes, the beer duties were/are unbelievably dangerous. I still want to know how this dude perforated them.

They would "escape into the wild" as sure as night follows day had he kept peddling them.

As someone once said, the price of freedom from ebay fakes is eternal vigilance.

Moonpig67 is a strange beast. He has quite normal and perfectly acceptable stock in the stamp and antique lines, but felt the need to supplement it with dangerous fakes.

Much more people power would be welcome insofar as the Greek Forger is concerned. Far too many individual collectors have given up, thinking the problem is too endemic and gone on for too long. "What can I do?". Plenty. I would like to see the APF devote some of their very substantial resources to him and work with ebay and the police. Instead of permanently going on vacation. He is no small-time naughty dealer, but a hardcore FRAUDSTER who has cost the philatelic community hundreds of thousands if not $$millions$$. Certain Australian dealers know exactly who he is but refuse to do anything.

I would also like to see APTA take strong action against the Greek Forger. Can not they see that he was taking money directly out of the mouths of their members?

Moonpig67 from Claremont, Western Australia is still selling these FAKE reproduction Tasmanian beer duties. No 'fake' marking on the reverse as required by ebay rules.

The word 'copy' is hidden away in the title (1902 TASMANIA BEER DUTY 1 SHILLING & 3 PENCE REVENUE COPY NO WATERMARK MINT) - which is open to interpretation.

This is the absurd and fraudulent description:

"1 Nice copy of this stunning revenue. Mint patchy gum. No hidden faults. No watermark. More states listed and more coming!"

PS. There are also clearly repro high-value Victorians in Moonpig67's listings which are not marked on the reverse.
