Ah, I see now that you are using the advanced search to combine sold items with a specific ID name. But image matching is a mystery to me - no idea where to go for that...

Disappointingly, it appears that Ebay only put a temporary ban on ID ocean-5002 ; today he has re-listed dozens of items.

Victoria Land? More like Disneyland.

Someone bought that one for $96, and a fake SA Departmental for $250. These are not "good" or "dangerous" fakes, except to people who don't know how to look for images/descriptions of real and fake stamps before buying something. Admittedly, the SA are difficult for a non-expert -- they are one of those strange issues where the real ones look fake, and I wouldn't buy one without a cert or a reputable seller.

All listings for ID omramtrading99 have vanished today. But ID sl_143_44 is back in business with all the usual overprints etc, so again it appears that Ebay only took half-measures and suspended him for a week.

It's like some bizarre game of whack-a-mole. It would almost be funny, if unwary buyers weren't getting defrauded.

Yet again, I suggest that a more effective approach would be to try to get the local Police interested enough to raid his premises. Doesn't anyone have a good relationship with a local copper in NSW ?

It never ceases to amaze me that we as Ebay users can easily to find the scams of this person and report them but Ebay can't seem to find them by themselves or get its act together to take across-the-board definitive and continuing action. Why is this so? Yes the police should be involved!

I feel sorry for whoever bought this!
Although its mostly him just bidding it up on his other accounts

Seems his forgeries are getting more convincing for collectors!
You'd think he would at least fake something known to exist.
I guess he is hoping someone will get overly excited for a new discovery.

Hello troy and bazza4338. I trust your expertise on the "4½d violet KGV with inverted small multi wmk".
But for the uninitiated among us (myself included), would you please tell us what are the telltale signs that show you the stamp depicted is a forgery? Interested, not criticising... "Does not exist" = "not previously known" does not seem to be sufficient, otherwise there would never be any new discoveries.

How do you suppose he made that fake inverted watermark stamp? Bleaching a real stamp with the correct WM and printing it with a fake 4.5d image? Kind of like a low-rent Sperati? Would explain the "mushy" detail on the stamp.

would you please tell us what are the telltale signs that show you the stamp depicted is a forgery?

1. The stamp simply does NOT exist. Period. Does EVERYONE who looks at FakeBay live in some alternate Universe of Stupidity? And simply blindly assumes the conga line of crap they see is real?

2. The stamp is not perf 12.5 x 13.5 as all except FakeBay Bunnies and bidders can clearly see. Even on S/Multi Perf 14, which this is, it does not exist Inverted EITHER. A total fabrication.

3. If it WERE genuine and new find, it clearly would appear at a REAL stamp auction, not a stamp cesspool like FakeBay, from a seller of total fakes with only 120 feedbacks start price $10 - and the estimate would be $50,000. Which it would fetch.

4. It is on FakeBay. Assume ANYTHING pricey is forged there from amateurs that has no certificate, or is not sold by a real dealer and member of a leading trade association.

5. It does not exist - he photoshopped this, and one of his endless shill bidders "bought" it via the guarantee of shill bidding - "private auctions". eBay MUST close these accounts, not just suspend them for a week.

5. It is offered by a serial faker - everything he sold this month is a total and utter forgery - as even you hopefully can see -

Yes, the photoshopping shows down the right hand side for example - a different greyer inner edge following the perforations that almost blends in, but not quite.

fake.PNG

It doesn't exist, so never gets mailed, and the buyer's funds get withdrawn by the forger from Paypal asap.

Eventually the buyer claims non-delivery and Paypal ends up out of pocket when they try to clawback the $ from the seller's now empty bank account.

I mean what kind of brain-dead MORON looks at this deliberately fuzzy fabricated mess and assumes for one second it is real?

Lots of them, judging from the price obtained.

https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/sl_143_44/m.html?item=2244459609 ... 6732.m1684

Holes are clearly fake, and entire base of the stamps is added.

Thanks for the replies to my request about that purported "KGV 4½d violet with inverted small multi wmk".

There are three types of evidence being provided, and together they give us a very convincing answer:

(1) The intrinsic evidence of photoshopping of the image, highlighted by gregbear61, is a strong telltale. In addition, it seems that this image shows gauge 14 perforations, not the claimed 13½ (but that requires you to have a trained eye for assessing the gauge of perforations in an image, a high level of experience/expertise).

(2) When that is coupled with all the other reported instances of dodgy items offered/sold(?) by the seller, it fits into the larger picture of serial image manipulation for fraud. It is the supporting evidence about the other activities of the "seller" that is the first tipoff this item is also likely to be dodgy, and prompts us to go looking for intrinsic evidence in the image itself.

(3) Add in the reality checks that (a) no example of the claimed variety is known to experts; (b) any example of such a variety would merit a certificate of expertisation; (c) a verified example would fetch a very high price (perhaps $50K) if offered by a reputable auction house.

Thanks for the combined responses. I'm now much clearer on the basis for identifying this item as fraudulent.

The intrinsic evidence of photoshopping also gives us a much better understanding of how the image was created, and the conclusion that no physical stamp of that description actually exists.

Given that this guy has been around for years and seldom gets negative feedback, I doubt he is running the "list non-existent item, get paid, and disappear" scam. He's sending the winner *something*, though in the case of the 4.5d, it's not clear what. Usually it's pretty obvious -- fake overprint or "OS" punctures, or something run off on a laser printer and "aged". Faking a watermark seems a little advanced for him.

He recently used ID ocean-5002 to add 3 bogus "buyer" feedbacks onto the account for ID el73_28 . Hopefully that should be enough to get both those accounts shut down. I have reported this direct to the shill bidding team.

All listings for northgate14, sl_143_44, el73_28 and ocean-5002 are now gone. I can’t remember if they all had active listings, but northgate and ocean certainly did. Another minor victory ...but disappointingly, they are still not NARUd. ID stampomtrad (previously omramtrading99) is still selling, but only has one active listing.

It seems likely that he has switched, or will soon switch, to other new IDs.

All listings for ID premiumequ-88 seem to be gone today. The completed Ebay sales show his location as Carlton, Adelaide - is this a completely separate but similar operation, or just another of Nassar's holiday homes bought with ill-gotten gains?

I have sent a report direct to the shill bidding team, asking them to check the 30 items recently sold by this ID premiumequ-88 for shill bids from his other known accounts.

At the moment, there don't seem to be any live listings on any of his accounts - which makes me again suspect that he must be using others ...

Below are the IDs that I'm using for my reports and which appear to be still current - i.e. they produce a "0 listings" response from the Ebay advanced search, rather than a NARU or "ID not found" response. If I have omitted any live account, please let me know.
