Yes, I do get some great deals on Australian stamps here in Canada. Not many here have all the proper catalogues. My shelf is full of them (most purchased from you). :D

Once lockdowns are over, I am looking forward to local shows as well. I have found most dealers here have no idea how to price their Australian/States stock. Most are over-priced for the quality - based solely on Scott (sometimes SG).

However, they rarely make any distinctions for scarce cancels/varieties - so there are bargains.
Here is one for this thread (also posted in the KGV thread).

This KGV is LMW and dated so that it has to be a Cooke printing (ACSC 73 (B or C based on shade/UV reaction - CV $4-5K) in an inexpensive box lot with many other nice items including used KGV gutter pairs with imprint, etc).

The problem here is getting anything certified. Scott (Starling) has not responded to my email on this item.

SG#50 1d Lg Mult poss Cooke ACSC 73(B,C) or Harrison 74 Dated 9FEB 18.jpg

Given the bargains picked up by Glen at the local auction recently I am drawing attention to a Philatelic Auction in the UK by a general auctioneer who has got hold of a seemingly complete Hong Kong specialised collection and similar with Argentina. The Argentine has Die proofs and plate proofs, unadopted Essays etc which seem to be estimated at low prices.

An example of the Hong Kong (specatcular) is shown below with an estimate of £1,000. The stamps as singles are cat at £3,900. Believed to be MNH.

As usual I pushed the wrong button when I meant to push preview!

The link to the auction is

https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/semley ... -srse10104

Semley's are a general auctioneer in Shaftesbury, Dorset UK. The named collection is that of Basil Lewis. Definitely worth a look.

Bargains maybe, but don't forget to read the small print.
Additional Fees:
Commissions*: 32.34% Inc.VAT/sales tax

*Includes buyer's premium and online commission. For more information please read the auctioneer's T&Cs.
I make that a buyer's commission of 26.95%!

Yes - costs going up and up. Status increased their buyers commission this month. However, even with that high level there are some bargains to be had in the auction in Dorset at those levels.

Picked up this India 1906 OHMS set.
They both have the "no stop after M" variety.
SG066 & SG067.
Catalogued at £435 for the set used, I paid £19.99 for the set.
I reckon it's a worthy bargain.

Be like a postage stamp. Stick to one thing until you get there.

Two MNH NWPI 1d Carmine Red 5th setting of the overprint forme SG103. The first, Run on N third state the second Secret Mark. The secret mark is off centre with the perfs rough and could be a better copy but catalogues at £110.

This lot was £1 plus post, no other bidders.

Top left stamp is the 1d Die II substituted cliche, CV $150.

The 4d Olive on row 2 is 4L37 "White flaw on lowest bloom of left wattles". CV is $75 or $175, depending on watermark. Shame about the top right corner.

Wonder how much the Hong Kong items sold for. The website says "auctioneer did not disclose the hammer price".

Hong Kong material has weakened a bit lately, but items with plate numbers or control numbers are always very popular.

I telephoned the auctioneers after the sale because there were some decent unsolds and they said they would email me but never did. I mentioned it was strange that as a provincial auction house they were selling quite an extensive specialised collection, She agreed with me!!!!!

Another nice eBay bargain.

4d violet postcard.jpg

NWPI 4d Violet cat £40 x 4 on cover not taking into account the variety 'broken frame at top left' ACSC111 (2) d 2L7.

Cost £16 including postage from Australia. I have always had a soft spot for stamps affixed to the front of postcards in contravention of the regulations. Cancelled at Rabaul (per favour) on the 27th September 1922.

Someone has subsequently added N.W.P.I. and New Guinea in ink subsequently but it doesn't detract from the item.
