He may also have a new listing name, hmorgan56. While I don't want to shoot an innocent seller, I did notice a similar anomaly where stamp location is listed in US, while the seller is located in UK."
I can confirm rushmore_stamps and ogstamps are one in the same (and certainly believe the other names identified in this thread.

Actually, the Trans-Miss plate pair in the new hmorgan56 account is different from the other one that appeared the accounts of eBay sellers rushmore_bargains and ogstamps.

Centering and the perf alignment is completely different.

Thats not to say hmorgan56 is not related to crooked eBay sellers rushmore_bargains, ogstamps, tenshillings, etc.

On Feb 16 item #131111229281 was sold by ogstamps
https://www.ebay.com/itm/United-States-Pictorial-10c-Sc-116-Hinged-Scott-2000-/131111229281

Image

and on March 11 the same stamp, with identical image, was sold by hmorgan56 item #121287527530

https://www.ebay.com/itm/US-10c-Pictorial-1869-Scott-116-OGH-Cat-value-2000-/121287527530

Image

Also on Feb 16 item #131111335835 was left unsold by ogstamps
https://www.ebay.com/itm/United-States-Marshall-5-Sc-480-Never-hinged-Scott-375-/131111335835

Image

Again,on March 11 the same stamp with identical image was unsold in the hmorgan56 account item #121287534247

https://www.ebay.com/itm/US-5-Marshall-1917-Scott-480-OGNH-Cat-value-375-/121287534247

Image

On Jan 21 this 1c Pan-Am plate block was sold by rushmore_bargains item #291054956526

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1901-United-States-Pan-American-1c-S ... 1054956526

Image

It appears as a hmorgan56 listing that closed March 11, item #121287527532.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/US-1c-Pan-American-1901-Scott-294-OGNH-Cat-value-1100-/121287527532

Different image this time. Note how the stain at the right edge has been doctored and the wrinkles in the selvedge at LL have been minimized!

Image

Hopefully the listings matched above provide ample confirmation that eBay seller hmorgan56 is another account in the long list of accounts controlled by Phillip Ryle.

This is a great thread to read and shows some astonishing investigative work by a number of stampboads members.

It also reveals a few inevitable conclusions to me

1) it is an uphill battle that is very unlikely to be won because of 2) and 3)
2) you have sellers and Ebay who just want to make money
3) you have somewhat rich buyers who just beg to be deceived

Who in their right mind will spend more than $20 on Ebay on some old looking stamp that comes with no certificate? (and based on an article brought up by another forum member, it turns out even certificates cannot be always trusted)

I think I know who.....

........A person who actually does not need his money that badly

If you can spend $2,000 on one stamp, you are not going to bed hungry because of it.

Ebay can just make a disclaimer stating that all stamps sold over $50 are likely to be fakes and not eligible for any refund and that will fix the whole issue. :D

Wow. After reading through this whole thread today, I learned a lot. In the beginning, it was lessons on how stamps are altered. Then the lessons on doing research across the web on shady sellers.

As I just got caught up, I haven't had a chance to do any reporting myself on these.

I guess the saddest thing to come out of all this is the fact that eBay re-instated 4 of the very meticulously proven scam seller accounts.

It also showed me that the Stamp/Coin department at eBay is only as good as the individuals that work there, and I give kudos to those hard-working, supportive individuals.

I do get the impression that they are working against the wishes of the "other" eBay department. So perhaps they will be told to back off, who knows?

How in the world can this person get away with impersonating someone else, sending threatening messages as that person, having multiple accounts closed, then some re-instated? S

urely eBay knows more than it is willing to admit, even if the accounts are stolen/purchased and don't directly link to said P. Ryle. What about the PayPal accounts? The money must go somewhere.

His posts here have been indicative of someone who thinks nothing will ever change and he can continue to get away with his game. Sad, for him and his fleeced buyers. This thread has been going for many months - two years?

Will be keen to see how things transpire.

Great work - some amazing detective work all around.

Howdy, Thomas, 2nGlenn, and, of course Sheriff,
I'm now attempting to post via Picasa - still holding off on Photobucket :-) since I already have too much software slowing down the old Dell.

Latest news from the wild west: 100% certainty that SuperDeal72 is Ryle as well. Below is a US Columbian $3, Scott #243 https://www.ebay.com/itm/Scott-243-US-1893-Columbian-3-Never-hinged-Cat-5250-/181360525787. It was sold by Rushmore_Bargains (Ryle) in February and the EXACT STAMP (even the same pictures were used) when sold this month by SuperDeal72 (aka Ryle).
How do I know an innocent buyer who realized was suckered, didn't re-list on eBay?
Three reasons:
1) Stamp is listed as being located in US, and seller is in UK.
2) "Fake Bidders" jacking up the price are on my list of bidders who only bid on Ryle stamps!
3) The profile, SuperDeal72 is one of many that Ryle has jacked up transactions and positive feedback by selling 100+ digital images before listing tampered stamps.

Below are some pretty pictures to help hang-em high.
Superdeal72

Note the location of the seller versus the item. Image
Rushmore_bargains

Hopefully 2nGlenn and/or Thomas can update their lists of eBay aliases and add Superdeal72!

It appears that Ryle landed himself a "big fish" last evening in his ogstamps account on eBay.

He sold this stamp, mint with hinge remnant, for US$3,800.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/United-States-Type-I-10c-Sc-13-Hinged-Scott-19000-/141274108775

Image
Image

The problem is that he purchased it at the March Siegel auction, sale #1067, lot #897 for $500 + buyers premium.

https://www.siegelauctions.com/dynamic/lots.php?year=2014&lo ... 28,%202014

Image
Image

The stamp had a manuscript cancel. Also, the Siegel description mentions a thin at the bottom. Of course neither mentioned by Ryle.
The sale made last evening but its still possible to get the sale voided if we get reports in to eBay today.

Oh boy....
I've been away from this for a while, nothing has changed. This crook Philip Ryle is operating his business as usual.

Here's another one, sold by eBay seller ogstamps last evening.

Offered as US Scott #440 mint NH

Like the #13 in my last post this stamp was purchased at the March Siegel auction sale #1067, Lot #1531, for US$600 + buyers premium.

https://www.siegelauctions.com/dynamic/lots.php?year=2014&lo ... 28,%202014

Another altered stamp, this time playing with the gum to hide a light hinge mark.

IMO Ryle may have bought this one back. After the eBay/ Paypal fees deducted the markup isn't so great.

He's not trying to disguise this stamp with the white background is he??

Crooked eBay seller ogstamps, one of the many eBay accounts controlled by Phillip Ryle is continuing to rip off collectors.

Here is another stamp purchased in the March Siegel auction #1067, lot #1565. U.S. Scott #478, price US$475 + buyers premium.

https://www.siegelauctions.com/dynamic/lots.php?year=2014&lo ... 28,%202014

Image
Image

Gum condition not stated in the Siegel catalogue but I think we can assume it was not NH.

The stamp is offered by eBay seller ogstamps in an auction that ended last evening.
Just another example of Phillip Ryle's "bread and butter". Regumming lightly hinged stamps in order to rip off unsuspecting eBay customers.

How about one more?!

Siegel Auction sale #1067. lot #1597 US Scott #523 with trivial hinge remnant sold for $300 + buyers premium.

Notice how he touched up the UL corner perf. He has a fetish for big fat corner perfs! We've seen this many times over the last few years.

ebay seller and crook re-entry latest fraudulent activity:

Item #151308354647

https://www.ebay.com/itm/151308354647

Image

This is a relist from another of his ebay accounts: stamp-collecting in Sept. 2013, item # 290975774857.
Image

Currently described as 'Never Hinged', it was not always so.
When he purchased this stamp at the Stanley Gibbons "Arnhold Collection" auction of May 17th, 2012, it was Lot 723 and described as: "Large part o.g." - which in SG language means hinge remnant(s) - not 'never hinged'.

Here is the screenshot of the auction catalog:

Image

Those with eyes to see can note both the hinge remnant and the added gum/gum redistribution to cover up the hinge remnant and the 'feathering' in:

Image

eBay removed his earlier listing. Do please report this one as well at this url:

https://www.ebay.com/scw (Item #151308354647). Make a point of mentioning that this is a relist of eBay item # 290975774857 in Sept. 2013 which ebay removed back then.

ebay seller and crook re-entry fraudulent activity:

Item #161313081499

https://www.ebay.com/itm/161313081499

Image

Listed as 'Never hinged', this has not always been so. It was very clearly hinged when ebay seller stamp-collecting fraudulently listed it as 'never hinged' back in Sept, 2013 as item # 400571366501
Here is the screen shot:
Image

As we all know, ebay seller and crook stamp-collecting and re-entry are one and the same person.

There is a new twist to this new listing: It was offered by Ryle firstly as SG 156a and now as SG 156. He has digitally enhanced with the use of 'spray paint' the reverse of the stamp to hide the obvious hinge remnant. When he listed it in Sept, 2013, the reverse looked like this:

Image

It now looks like this:

Image

Tilting your screen at an angle is more revealing than looking at it head-on.
Interestingly, and just to tie re-entry & stamp-collecting to Ryle's old now NARU's eBay account: winter-storm - this same stamp was offered back then as item # 180960647473 (no longer visible on eBay). But here is the scan:

Image
Don't be fooled by the seeming color difference. The perfs are what give it away.

eBay removed his earlier listing. Do please report this one as well at this url:

https://www.ebay.com/scw (Item #161313081499). Make a point of mentioning that this is a relist of eBay item # 400571366501 in Sept. 2013 which ebay removed back then. Also that it is a relist by now NARU'ed account winter-storm (same seller, new account) when it was listed under item #180960647473.

ebay seller and fraudster re-entry fraudulent activity:

Item #161313081501

https://www.ebay.com/itm/161313081501

Image

This is a re-listing originally made by fraudulent ebay crook stamp-collecting in Sept, 2013. Back then it was item # 400571366903. This is the screenshot:

Image

Now remarkably described a "Never hinged", it was not always so.

When he purchased this stamp at the Stanley Gibbons "Arnhold Collection" auction of May 17th, 2012, it was Lot 732 and described as: "Fresh large part o.g." - which in SG language means hinge remnant(s).

Here is a screenshot of the auction catalog:

Image

The underside reveals the outline of a hinge remnant (tilt screen) - as per my arrows - with a regumming to cover up any traces.

This is a re-listing by ebay crooked seller stamp-collecting in Sept, 2013 when it was item #290975774410:

Image

Now remarkably described a "Never hinged", it was not always so.

When he purchased this stamp at the Stanley Gibbons "Arnhold Collection" auction of May 17th, 2012, it was Lot 748 and described as: "fresh and well-centred, large part (slightly yellowish) o.g. one skinned perf mentioned for accuracy, still very fine appearance".

Here is the screenshot of the relevant section of the auction catalogue:

Image

No mention of the hinge remnant removed or the skinned perf, or indeed, the detracting 'yellowishness'.

Here is the reverse with my arrowed in area of where I believe the outline of the hinge remnant can still be seen:

crooked ebay seller re-entry fraudulent activity:

Item #161313076722

https://www.ebay.com/itm/161313076722

Image

This is an old one come back to haunt us. It dates back to August, 1912 when re-entry (alias Philip Ryle), was using the now NARU'ed ebay account, winter-storm. eBay listing # back then was 180960647673.

But I am getting ahead of myself. It was originally purchased by the Ryle cartel from the Stanley Gibbons "Arnhold Collection" auction of May 17th, 2012, it was Lot 744 and described as: "fresh, large part o.g., a couple of shortish perfs, but a really lovely example".

The url for the sale catalogue is: https://www.stanleygibbons.com/images/sg/auctions/catalogues/Arnhold_Catalogue_HiRes.pdf

Screenshots:

Image

Zooming in on the stamp in question:

Image

and comparing it with Ryle's latest listing image, we find evidence that the 'short perfs' are no longer there. Well, they are there, but they are not there. The image below shows what a little digital alteration can do with perfs that otherwise would appear short. With a little bit of 'white' to increase the length of perfs and a little 'black' to shorten them, the end result is a stamp without perf faults. Ryle gambles on the potential owner not noticing the difference between the perfs on the image and the perfs on the stamp in hand.

Image

Here are the two together - probably a little blurry:

ebay seller re-entry fraud continues:

Just thought I would add this one to the multiple levels of diverse fraud activity that this seller is capable of:

Item # 151308378332

https://www.ebay.com/itm/151308378332

Image

Described as 'never hinged - an 'incredibly fresh example', the natural human tendency is to believe a colossal lie. The bigger the lie, the more the people will believe it. What Ryle & Co have done here is to take a soaked, no gum stamp, and liberally applied gum with the deft strokes of an artist's brush, which, in fact, is exactly what was used. Two things are a give-away. Both the frame and portrait colors have leached through the paper and show on the reverse in that distinct way associated with double heads that have been soaked in water. Secondly, the swirls left by an artist's brush can be quite easily seen - particularly when you tilt your screen:

Image

As usual, we don't have to look far to see this stamp being offered in Ryle's other accounts:

In Nov, 2013, this stamp was listed by ebay seller air-mail - another fraud account run by Ryle:

Image

It was offered as SG 138 back then, but it is not unusual for Ryle to switch catalogue numbers.

This same stamp was also offered by ebay seller stamp-collecting - another fraud account run by Ryle. That time it was eBay listing # 300963990825.

Do please report this one at this url:

https://www.ebay.com/scw (Item #151308378332).
Make a point of mentioning that this is a regummed stamp that is not mentioned in the description. Add the link to this page for further documented evidence: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=38353&start=350

Howdy Certified,

THANK YOU

Thanks for the very detailed materials - and also the link to the reporting page made my reporting much quicker than going through the multiple ebay menu pages.

I will make it a point to be sure to include the appropriate cut/paste content and URLs to make reporting by others more streamlined!

So, in addition to reporting your items, I also reported Philip Ryle/Ryall selling under multiple accounts, including air-mail, stamp-collecting, ogstamps, re-entry, rushmore_bargains and newly introduced hmorgan56.

Did ebay seller "collectstamps" disclose the GB £1 was re-perfed top and base?

ebay seller: tenshillings : fraud activity continues.
Documented for evidence purposes.

Item # 141363770677

https://www.ebay.com/itm/141363770677

Image

This is an old, old friend:

Listed by another of Ryle's ebay accounts: re-entry: in May/June, 2014 when it was item # 161313081591:

Image

It sold for $2,839.00 to bidder w***n. The reader can decide whether this was one of Ryle's own shillbidders:

Image

It had previously been listed by another of Ryle's accounts: stamp-collecting : in Sept, 2013 when it was item #290975774410:

Image

Now remarkably described as "Unhinged", it was not always so.

Image

The 'large part o.g.' has now become 'unhinged', i.e. no mention of the hinge remnant removed or the skinned perf, or indeed, the detracting 'yellowishness'.

Since ebay no longer have a Stamp Watch Group to whom you can report this fraudulent seller, either click on the 'report item' icon on the listing, or even better, call ebay and get to speak to someone in a supervisory position - not easy, but not impossible.

Just documenting and tying in this recent offering from Ryle under ebay seller mint_stamps with his suspended ebay account winter-storm:

Item #141389801227

The same pair of stamps can be viewed by scrolling down on page 2 of this thread, an entry submitted by PeterG.
PeterG wrote:Winters,

Well here is another one for you to respond to as clearly your "supplier" is letting you down badly.

Eight of your double heads were listed as ex Arnhold, which was referring to the SG British Africa auction on May 17th this year. These double heads attracted my interest as I did bid on that auction and also won some lots.

I also have the catalogue and after studying your 8 double heads I discover that four of the eight were not in that auction.

hmmmm claiming fake provenance is extremely misleading. I have copied all of those eight but won't fill the board up here at this time.

The full high res catalogue can be downloaded from here:-
https://legacy.stanleygibbons.com/auctions/auction-catalogues.aspx

But moving on what is not apparent is those that were purchased by someone, you?, in the Arnhold auction but not declared as such. e.g.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180960647643

Item number 180960647643

which started life as lot 677 in the Arnhold auction:-

With a description that mentioned very light stain on central margin, large part o.g. with a couple of trivial gum stains. Suddenly all stains have gone and large part o.g seems to have acquired no less than the remains of 4 hinges..... which also suggests perhaps this stamp originally had no gum at all...... or are they hiding a repair???
I have reported this one and hope others do the same.

More garbage by this circle of shysters (or one shyster masquerading as many)...

Here is a U.S. Scott #R97a, a moderately tough revenue stamp, and a very attractive example at that.

Sold by seller tenshillings, one of the regular scumbags featured in this thread, registered in the UK but the merchandise is (supposedly) in the U.S. Auction ended on May 7, 2015, sold to a (relatively) low-feedback bidder, presumably a shill. Sells for US$1,443.93.

Image

Image

Same stamp pops up for auction less than a month later, this time by seller superdeal70, also registered in the UK with the merchandise supposedly in the U.S. Stamp again sells on June 4, 2015 to a low-feedback bidder, this time for US$1,313.88. Note: Underbidder is high-profile U.S. revenue dealer Eric Jackson.

Image

Image

Now this morning two weeks later, it appears as a Buy-It-Now listing from seller re-entry, you guessed it: a seller registered in the UK, but the merchandise is supposedly in the U.S.

Hi revenuecollector. Yes, it's the same old, same old, never ending theme. Here's the same stamp sold 3 times in 30 days in Ryle's hmorgan10 eBay seller account:
"US 15 c Pictorial 1875 Scott 129 H Cat value $1350"
Item Number 121594202375 hmorgan10 auction ended March 22 2015
Image
"Sold" for US $825.15 to shill bidder v***.
Image
Item Number 121605825802 hmorgan10 auction ended April 05 2015
Image
"Sold" for US $ 480.50 to shill bidder v***7
Image
Item Number 121617981414 hmorgan10 auction ended April 19 2015

Sold for US $776.66 to d***d. Shill bidder? Most likely.

As you know eBay Inc. ended its oversight for all categories in August 2014 citing rising costs as its rationale. Really? EBay rakes in billions of dollars yearly; this is a cost-cutting measure to realize higher shareholder profits at the expense of maintaining a modest level of customer protection.

Normally eBay Inc. would be considered like any other marketplace to be "caveat emptor." However eBay Inc. is knowingly shirking due diligence and a duty to care to stamp bidders & buyers.

I seriously think the warning sent to eBay by Alberta Government Consumer Services (Services Alberta) helped precipitate the demise of eBay oversight programs. If eBay ever needed a reason to divest itself of taking steps to exercise due diligence and a duty to care it can be found in the wording of the letter:

Image

Many stamp dealers and buyers including myself have presented evidence to eBay that Philip Ryle has sold and continues to sell deliberately misdescribed, altered, and fraudulent stamps with fraudulent certificates on its websites. EBay Coin & Stamp Department has acknowledged Ryle as a fraudster:

Image

Regretfully eBay continues to exhibit contempt for buyer safety by sticking its proverbial head in the sand instead of confronting Ryle's multiple fraudulent seller accounts and rampant shill bidding head on. I have kept all personal correspondence with the eBay Coin & Stamp Department and it makes for some interesting reading. It's time to create my own website giving my evidence that eBay is complicit in aiding and abetting fraud, racketeering, and money laundering. I think I can make a very credible case that eBay can't hide from.

I would really appreciate getting news of Ryle's ongoing fraudulent listings, multiple "solds", and his new or resurrected eBay seller accounts. Please continue to post on this thread or contact me via the Stampboards member email. Thanks.

If this crook spent the same amount of time selling stamps in a normal legitimate fashion, he'd still make good money.

Do we have a list to add here of current active accounts connected with Philip Ryle, that can be added here for reference?

Passing that onto Alberta Investigations service address above might well see a surprise result. ebay takes notice of Government Consumer Law Departments.

lee.chantal@gov.ab.ca - File 27915

They can well order ebay not to list these fake/doctored stamps in Canada, and the only way ebay can do that is totally remove the lots globally.

Three more "Sold" listings of the US Scott #129 1875 15 cent pictorial to add to my previous posting, these in Philip Ryle's eBay seller accounts postage-dues and re-entry:

Item Number 351384221662 postage-dues auction ended May 09 2015
Image
"Sold" for US $751.11 to shill bidder r***t
Image
Item Number 351410476497 postage-dues auction ended June 06 2015

"Sold" for US $585.43 to shill bidder 8***o.
Image
Item Number 371346891613 re-entry auction ended June 18 2015
Image
"Sold" for US $511.00 to i***c. Shill bidder? The history of the stamp says yes.
Image
This stamp has been "sold" 6 times within 3 months for a total of US $3,929.85. How much money would Ryle net here after eBay & PayPal fees? Anyone?

The minimum he is in the hole at this point is $400 in fees. Another good question is, at what price is he actually willing to sell?

Hi Richard, let's look at this a different way. Rather than being in the hole $400 or more, it's $3,500 or so to the good using the Philip Ryle system of accounting. He most likely still has the stamp so can look forward to it generating more money from "future sales."

What price is he willing to sell? Good question. When it reappears for auction let's do some bidding to find out (!) Seriously though, he may let it go soon or set it aside. Ryle's always buying from big auction houses and there's no shortage of new material available.

In my opinion it's irrelevant whether the stamp will find an actual buyer. It will serve Ryle's purposes until he decides to dispose of it.

Ryle's raked in good coin "selling" this stamp 6 times. That's only 1 stamp! Think of how much money he takes in each year on all the resolds and bogus material sold in his numerous eBay seller accounts. And eBay allows it to happen, eBay having express knowledge of Philip Ryle being a convicted forger and fraud artist preying upon eBay bidders and buyers.

Reconnecting the dots: EBay UK shares the Arcadian Group Limited Undertaking & the golden-hoarde Undertaking with eBay USA. Both business addresses of the undertakings are the same. Philip Ryle's signature is on one, Ryle's father-in-law, John Graham Chapman, signed the other.

Both Undertakings mention Ryle and Chapman trade on eBay:

My questions are the same as always.

If they have signed an agreement to stop being misleading (etc.) or face consequences by Somerset, and yet continue the same practices, what is the next step? How can they be reported to said agency? Also, what exactly does "may be subject to an enforcement order" - doesn't sound very severe?

Since the Stamp Watchdog at eBay no longer exists, what happens to reports? He continues unfettered by simply purchasing and using new accounts.

eBay will step in to some degree if the police get involved. How does this happen?

I still find it hard to believe that we can all talk about this problem, yet there seems to be nothing that can be done about it. Ryle seems to take pleasure in flaunting the system, even when he loses money on some sales (though I assume he makes a good profit with his dishonesty).

...eBay will step in to some degree if the police get involved. How does this happen?
Good questions. EBay deliberately severed direct communication to a number of people including myself who helped its Stamp Department oversight program jump on Philip Ryle's seller accounts. EBay relied heavily on volunteer experts from the stamp community to assess reports, as eBay itself had no stamp experts among its Stamp Department personnel. It was a good working relationship between buyers, concerned dealers, and eBay so why end it? The excuse of excessive cost just doesn't wash.

The police won't get involved unless someone who's been scammed files a report with them and provides sufficient evidence (this thread perhaps) that eBay has known about Ryle for years now and refuses to shut him down. Criminal investigations of this type always begin at the municipal level.

The long and short of it is that eBay has had investigators (The Global Asset Protection Team) working on Ryle's fraud for almost 2 years in North America and 4 years in the UK. Whose assets are they really protecting? Whose interests do they really serve? The facts speak for themselves: bidders & buyers don't count in eBay's scheme of things.

We need to evaluate how effective eBay has been in acting on reports of deliberate misdescribeds after July 2014-- the date of the oversight demise. How do we do that?

There are some ecommerce blogs out there that have more access to eBay's various departments (eg. Ina Steiner).

Wonder if e-mailing her (for example) with some of this accumulated evidence and asking her to contact eBay would do any good?
