BRITISH POSTMARK SOCIETY

Post by mgee »

The Society aims to cater for collectors of all types of British postal markings but particularly those of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. One of the objects of the Society is the dissemination of information and, with this in mind we publish an illustrated Journal each quarter, which is sent, to members only. Usually each issue contains some 30 to 40 A4 size pages with information on news, lists etc. and some longer articles. The Society also includes a Printed Postage Impression (PPI) Study Group for those interested in the modern markings on much of the junk mail that circulates these days.

We prefer members to take an active part in the Society’s activities and the following are given as examples of how this can be achieved:
• Writing articles or notes for the Journal;
• Reporting new items and supplying information generally;
• Adding to published articles, lists, etc.;
• Attending London meetings, when practicable;
• Forming or supporting local meeting groups;
• Supplying material for postal auctions and the Circulating Packet;
• Submitting an entry for the Annual Cup competition.

For UK members there is a good lending library, regular meetings are held in London at which much interesting material is displayed and we have an exchange packet circulating. For all members there is an annual postal auction and an annual sale. The library is probably the largest archive in the country that is devoted to all aspects of British postmarks.

The annual subscription to BPS for 2015 is £17 or £24 overseas. There is a reduction to £17 for overseas members who wish to download the Journal from the BPS website. The subscription year runs from 1 January. The Society is a registered charity and, as such, can recover tax on members’ subscriptions under the Gift Aid Scheme.

To commemorate our Diamond Jubilee in 2018 we started a project to digitise the British Postmark Society publications and make them freely available for future generations of collectors.
Please visit our website
http://www.britishpostmarksociety.org.uk/
and go to Digital Publications.
Amongst the books available are all theslogan postmark and Special Event catalogues.
Membership information is also on the website.
