Got this back from BPA just days ago.

1860 QV 1 Anna Lilac Receipt stamp postal usage on cover.

INDIA: 1870 native envelope to Pimparkhed, franked contrary to regulations with horizontal pair 1860 1a lilac on pale mauve Receipt stamps, Wmk Crown, Perf 15 x 15½ (Barefoot No.1), each cancelled by Pachora 'OC 11/AM' (the letter 'C' of 'OC' inverted and transposed with 'O') numeral '297' duplex with red hexagonal "PACHORA/OC 11/70" datestamp alongside, the adhesives additionally tied by Pimparkhed 'OC 11' cds, adhesives creased, is genuine.

(Receipt stamps were not intended for postal use and had been replaced by Revenue stamps in 1869).

Non-Existent Pimparkhed PO in 1870

Post by Joy Daschaudhuri »

Crazy!! What does BPA think of its customers? उल्लू का पट्ठा?

Shrinivas, you should ask BPA why is there Renouf type 60 hexagonal sorting/transit mark of Pachora on this cover when the stamps were canceled with Pachora duplex cancels with ds part.

Generally datestamps (not sorting/transit marks) were additionally added on cover to indicate the date of dispatch when the stamps were canceled with only undated simplex killer.

Secondly, where is the Pimparkhed cds on this cover?
Pimparkhed simply did not have any Br. Indian PO at least till 1914, not to mention in 1870.

List of Br. Indian POs in 1870 (beginning with Pi)

Where on the earth did BPA find Pimparkhed datestamp on this cover?

The datestamp at the lower left is of Shendurni.

And why is there no mention of the datestamp dt. OC 13 on the obverse side?

In addition to the illegal usage of Br. India 1A Barefoot 1 receipt stamps as postage, this cover is full of anomalies including the faulty BPA Certificate.

Joy,

If you have so much doubt about the cover, then shoot an email to BPA expressing your concern. Don’t try to shoot a gun from somebody else shoulders.

Give me the item number and the scan of the BPA certificate. I will bombard them.

A friend of my wife has passed on a very small bag of stamps for 'is there anything valuable there' appraisal.

There isn't - it's all very common, but I have never seen this before. Given the number of people flying in and out of India I imagine it is very common also among revenue collectors. Can anybody provide any information, and is it worth anything?

No. 3 in the International Passenger Service section of India in the Barefoot British Commonwealth Revenues catalogue.

Catalogue price £5.00

There is a scarce variety (Barefoot 4), overprinted 20 rupees, catalogued at £50.

Thank you - if they could get £5 for it, it would be loads more than the rest are worth!

Can someone please explain the meanings of letters found in the circular dated cancellations on India's Special Adhesive stamps?

http://i.imgur.com/b8cpUM8.jpg

The above link contains an image with a couple of stamps from my collection with the cancels in question - these have the letters A or K. I once saw an eBay lot which claimed that the A cancel is from Aden - is this true?

It would be interesting to know how many letters exist, and from where they originate. Are they covered by any literature?

I cannot post an image directly because of an ongoing problem with Imgur.

Recently came across this card in an estate I'm working on and wondered if there is any added value in these minimal value revenues when in multiples?

Barefoot listed as India Social Security 1964 Revenues

3.75 Rs., 5.25 Rs and 8.25 Rs

Last time I looked these are cents each, but in pairs or strips, does that make them any more interesting?
