What are the overprints on these pre-1920 Jamaican stamps?

Post by Brit-Col »

Greetings all,

I am sure this is a very basic question so I’ll ask it in this forum.

I have not encountered these overprints before. Can anyone enlighten me as to what they are?

And do they add any collector interest to the underlying stamps?

Thanks in advance.

Oh my word! Of course! Cancelled.

It’s so obvious now that it’s been pointed out.

For some strange reason I was trying to puzzle it out as maybe a commercial security overprint.

I agree with Glen, I suspect it may be fiscal, although I spent some time Googling and have thus far been unable to confirm it. (The CDS on the second stamp is a bit curious but no doubt there is a logical explanation.)

Anyway, thanks much for the responses.
