Era of Fiji Double ½d Postage Paid envelope cut square?

Post by Audrasforest1 »

.
I found this cutout from a Fijian postal stationary Postage Paid envelope.

It appears to have been issued for ½d and then up-rated with an additional ½d.

Red imprint size: 23 x 26 mm

Design carries Crown and Script GvR.

which leads me to believe it was issued in King George V era,

Can anyone shed some light as to what year this was issued.?

Appears to be early 1900's.

Thank you

A piece with two meter impressions.

Correct to note that GvR = KGV thus used between 1910-1936. Literature on Fiji meters anyone? :?

KGV for sure so could be anytime up to 1936 or so.

Fiji seemed to like that style - I bought a bundle of these in mid 1980s (I must be getting old) which of course have the E2R marking.

I bought these Fiji 35 years ago from a dealer in Fiji, the now sadly departed Stephen Joe. This was the height of the Frama label excitement and all this stuff was red-hot. I think the PO created them to replicate the Australia Frama that also came in sets of 3 values.

Shouldn't that be '36 to '52?

Obviously you are missing the date roundel, but assume it falls somewhere in the 1930's.
(They did not update them all "immediately on monarch change").

HI thanks so much for your mention of the Wiki books postage meter catalog, I had no idea it existed.
is there a value or pricing on the meters in the catalog?

Yes. Hiding in plain sight ...

meter_prices.jpg

Your example, missing the date roundel, would be regarded as incomplete, despite the double value tablet.

The acid test would be "Listing on eBay, with 99 cents start", and see where it ends up!!

(Where the catalogue assigns a value of "MV" - I think that means "minimal value")
