This thread is a WIKI for
faults and flaws.
The aim of this thread is to have an online catalogue for the faults and flaws of the 2d grey Kangaroo And Map stamps of Australia.
First some essential information on watermarks, printings and volumes.
The stamp was printed using a two-plate configuration, one upper and one lower. Each plate consists of a left and right pane. A pane contains 10 rows and 6 columns of individual clichés.
Upper plate 1 and Lower plate 2 were used for printings on all three watermarks by JB Cooke. Cooke eventually replaced Upper Plate 1 with Upper Plate 3 for printings in March 2018 on third watermark paper.
All clichés from Plates 1 and 2 contain the Die I break and the cliches from Plate 3, the Die IIA break.
According to the ACSC, there were two printings totalling 16,320,000 stamps of which 594,560 were punctured Large OS, and 1,392,000 were punctured Small OS.
Important reference sources for plating information are: the ACSC and Greg Pope's 2002 A Study of all three Plates of the 2d Gey of the Kangaroo and Map Series, published by the author.
