Post by satsuma »

The Cooke Monograms.

These can easily be allocated to their respective plates.
Plate 1 have the jubilee line indented above the monograms.
Plate 2 have no indent.

The Harrison Imprints on the Cooke Plates.
Harrison’s one-line imprints were utilised in late printings in orange, all violet printings, and the first blue printing. The two-line imprint was used on the last printing(s) from the Cooke plates. All blue imprints are rare.

The plates can be identified in all colours from the characteristics of the jubilee lines.

The Harrison Plates
There are no marginal lines on these plates.

The plates can be distinguished by the “King’s Neck Flaw” which is not present in 3R55 but is present on 4R55.
The Harrison, and both the Mullett no imprint and imprint olive printings, can be distinguished in this way.

Additionally, In the Ash printings plate 3 utilised his “N over A” imprint and plate 4 the “N over N” imprint.

However, for the CofA printings, caution is advised. In some “N over N” printings the flaw appears hardly visible and may have been retouched.
