Crows, Port in dash to Melbourne after SA's snap lockdown

Adelaide and Port Adelaide are preparing to fly to Victoria on Tuesday afternoon after South Australia was sent into a snap seven-day lockdown earlier in the day.

Crows and Power players, coaches and officials will board a chartered flight bound for Melbourne after being informed of the decision late on Tuesday morning.

The Power had been scheduled to play against Collingwood at the Adelaide Oval on Friday night, while the Crows had been expected to host Hawthorn a day later. The location of both games is now up in the air.

South Australia confirmed its COVID-19 cluster had grown to five on Tuesday with premier Steven Marshall announcing lockdown would begin from 6pm ACST.

While Victoria is in the midst of its own lockdown that has been extended until July 27, it will allow greater flexibility for the SA clubs to train after they had been told they wouldn't be able to do so in their home state.

It means 10 clubs will be based in Victoria as of Tuesday night, with Essendon currently located in Queensland along with Brisbane, Gold Coast, GWS and Sydney. St Kilda, meantime, is in quarantine in Perth ahead of its clash against West Coast on Saturday.

North Melbourne, Richmond and the Western Bulldogs all played games in Queensland in round 18 but returned home over the weekend.

The Power's clash with Collingwood is set to be gun midfielder Travis Boak's 300th match – drawing him equal with current club games record holder Kane Cornes.

The Crows had originally been scheduled to play against the Western Bulldogs in round 19 before the League flipped its round 20 fixture with the Hawks into this weekend as one of three changes announced on Monday.

Crows, Port told to turn around, clubs brace for Showdown

ADELAIDE and Port Adelaide believe an earlier-than-expected Showdown could be on the cards this weekend after a whirlwind day of manoeuvring in South Australia.

Both the Crows and Power were set to depart Adelaide on Tuesday afternoon after the state was thrown into a seven-day lockdown earlier in the day.

However, with their bags packed and on track for a 4pm flight on Tuesday, players and staff at both clubs were told to turn around and head home.

While it was originally thought the Crows and Power were bound for Melbourne, they were instead planning to fly to Queensland on Tuesday before the flight was cancelled.

The Power are fixtured to host Collingwood on Friday night at Adelaide Oval and the Crows are scheduled to tackle Hawthorn at the venue on Saturday.

The round 21 fixture, which includes an Adelaide-Port Adelaide Showdown and Hawthorn-Collingwood clash, could pave the way for a direct swap, according to clubs on Tuesday afternoon.

If the breaking story below is correct then there is likely to be changes to the fixture for this week, which is going to cause an absolute nightmare as everyone who has tipped already will have to tip for the new matches.

I would suggest that no one else tips for the moment and waits until the AFL provide further information on what is going to proceed this weekend.

Once it is known and if changes have been made to matches, I will try to contact those who have already tipped and inform them they will need to provide tips for the changed matches.

Vic trip back on: Crows, Power set for Marvel match-ups after day of drama

Adelaide and Port Adelaide's whirlwind day of changing travel plans continues

Adelaide and Port Adelaide will escape South Australia's lockdown and fly to Melbourne on Tuesday night after a whirlwind day where their travel plans changed multiple times.

The Power will now tackle Collingwood in Travis Boak's 300th match at Marvel Stadium on Friday night, while the Crows will face Hawthorn at Marvel Stadium on Saturday night.

It comes after SA premier Steven Marshall announced a snap seven-day lockdown on Tuesday morning with the state confirming it had recorded five cases of COVID-19.

With two games scheduled for Adelaide Oval (Port Adelaide-Collingwood and Adelaide-Hawthorn), both clubs were told at lunchtime to pack their bags for a 4pm flight out of Adelaide.

Originally told they would be sharing a flight to Melbourne, plans quickly changed to the prospect of a flight to Queensland.

However, with players, coaches and officials arriving at their respective club headquarters in preparation of catching buses to the airport, they were told their flight had been cancelled around 2pm and to return home. Both clubs felt a Showdown – which would have been brought forward from round 21 – was on the cards.

A phone hook-up between both clubs and the AFL just after 4pm then reverted back to their original plan – a flight bound for Melbourne after 8.30pm on Tuesday night.

The Crows and Power had been told they were going to be unable to train in South Australia, however, will be able to do so in Victoria.

The Hawks-Crows match will form part of a double-header at Marvel Stadium on Saturday and follow the Carlton-North Melbourne match at the venue earlier in the day.

The Hawks-Crows match has been pushed back to start at 7.40pm AEST after initially being fixtured for 6.10pm AEST.

Thanks for the kind words. When I took over running this competition from Norm, I never considered we would ever be having to deal with drama and uncertainty around fixturing like the past 2 seasons has seen.

It sure has made it a lot more challenging than I expected but we have managed to keep the competition running and just need to get through the next 5 weeks and it will be done for another year.

R19 FIXTURE UPDATE: Venue confirmed for Dons-Giants

THE AFL has finalised details for the Round 19 fixture of the 2021 Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

Details for the following matches of Round 19 have been confirmed:

Geelong Cats vs. Richmond scheduled for the MCG on Sunday July 25 will begin at 3:20pm AEST.

Essendon vs. GWS GIANTS will be played at Metricon Stadium on Sunday July 25, starting at 6:10pm AEST.

Both clubs are currently residing in Queensland. The match will be a double header for the venue on Sunday with Sydney Swans vs Fremantle scheduled for 12:30pm AEST on the same day.

“We thank the four clubs, broadcast partners and venues – the MCG and Metricon Stadium – for their understanding as we finalised details for the respective matches to be played on Sunday,” Mr Auld said.

“As we continue to navigate the challenges presented, we would like to thank all State and Territory Governments, the clubs, players, coaches, umpires, staff, AFLPA, broadcast partners and all the families for their continued patience and support.”

Round 19

153 AFL games so far, forecasting the winners should be getting easier.
Favs. have won 102 times (incl. the 2 draws) that is 67%.
So 51 games have gone against the form.
Also 18 games have been won by less than 1 goal, 6 games have been won by 1 point.
Does any of this help ? Probably not!

My tips for Rd 19 are:-

Port Adelaide
Carlton
Brisbane
W C E
Hawthorn
Melbourne
Sydney
Geelong
G W S

Thank you

Agree - well done to John, keeping up with the ever-changing schedule .. one has to feel sorry for all players and back up staff, and AFL bods, juggling this mess on a daily basis.

I gather the OPTUS Stadium is in Perth?

(4.5 for Collingwood seems way out of whack - to me anyways!)

If they had crowds in MEL, Collingwood would waltz it in tonight methinks, as they'd be 90% Collingwood supporters.

If our total bone head Feds had got serious about jabs 3 or 4 months back, they'd have some decent safe crowds nationally right now.

The pathway for crowds returning back to footy games might include proof of vaccinations or negative COVID tests.

The Age reports that the AFL has been looking overseas to the USA, Europe and the United Kingdom where similar models have been implemented for recent sporting events that have been staged in those respective regions in front of huge crowds.

The NBA playoffs have just been completed in the US, the Euro football championships were held all across the European continent and the Wimbledon tennis championships made their return to London following a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

An AFL spokesman told The Age that the league would “continue to review crowd guidelines” that ensured the health and safety of fans, but would not elaborate on a “no jab, no entry” concept.

Just 11.5 per cent of the Australian population is fully vaccinated following a slow rollout by the federal government. 54.4 per cent of the UK and 49.2 per cent of the US are fully vaccinated, meaning they’re at much, much lower risk of serious illness and/or contracting Covid-19.

I reckon $3 for the Saints against Eagles isn’t too bad given the Eagles have been awful these last few weeks.

That said, Saints have always been my bogey team when it comes to tipping
Whilst growing my usage collection, I also collect other stuff.

Had a little flutter on that one too - I agree, as Saints have been doing well lately.

Needed to look up the stadium location, assuming OPTUS was Melbourne, but saw it was Perth, and then was not so keen, but then googled whether crowds were OK over there this weekend, and answer is NEIT. So that is a huge plus for Saints I'd suggest. :!:

(4.5 for Collingwood seems way out of whack - to me anyways!)

Due to that strange sportsbet policy, they paid out in full, as Collingwood goaled within first 2 minutes!
