This is Mickey. He's my 16 month old Boykin Spaniel/Lab mix. I got him by accident early last June from an animal rescue group. He was originally at the Columbia County, South Carolina animal shelter.

I cannot imagine life without him now.

It was a cold and frosty morning (-5.4C and an apparent temp of -8.1C) but that didn't worry Jessie and James as they soaked up the warmth from the sun and the heater :D

I'll restart. :D

At the Olympics in Barcelona in 1992 & Athens in 1996, Australia's Coxless Fours won Gold, they became known as "The Oarsome Foursome". In 2005 I managed to have 4 Pembroke Corgis. I called them "The Awesome Pawsome":
Image
From left to right: Kalli, Kalli's mum Becky, Frosty & Lucy.

Frosty was the oldest living Corgi in Victoria in 2006, 2007 & 2008, passing away in 2009 at 17 years & 11 months. Becky was the oldest living Corgi in 2016, passing away this year at 15 years & 6 months.

The hardest part about taking this photo was trying to get them not to move.

We've just come back from a couple of weeks in Queensland where we spent some time with our daughter and son-in-law and their malamute "Mia".

She's a beautiful, playful dog; we were also in Brisbane six years ago - the day they brought her home as a 6-week-old puppy.

Cheers, Gordon

Nothing better than a good pet-related pun - the 'Awesome Pawsome' is stellar (and very cute doggies - so sorry that two have passed, Brad.)

Mia is adorable....how does she manage the Brisbane heat?

This is Mia at six weeks (six years ago).

Mia does quite well in the Brisbane climate - she has her "cool spots" in their home - a Queenslander.

Andy Seliverstoff is a 58-year-old professional photographer from St. Petersburg, Russia.

A few years ago some of Seliverstoff’s friends asked him to take photos of their daughter Alice in a park.

They had their gigantic Great Dane, Sean, with them, so they decided to incorporate him into the photos.

After seeing the results, he knew he was on to something special.

The project has become his passion, which he chronicles in a book called “Little Kids and Their Big Dogs.“

All of the photos are taken in St. Petersburg. Its extensive parks and colder climate help create some spectacular shots.

The overall message he’s trying to get across, he said, is simple: “Love for dogs and children makes people kinder.”

Since there are lots of fabulous dogs and cats posted, I shall go in a different direction and showcase some more of my horses, this time not of the stamp variety :)

I have 4 Thoroughbred Ex racehorses and 4 miniature horses that seem to quite enjoy playing dress up and going in parades.

This years Harvest festival parade had a theme which was "year of the corn" so these were my little kernels.

A few years back, my wife came across a dog in the conservation area across the street.

The poor girl was in very bad shape. She wanted to come to my wife, but she was too scared. My wife was patient with her, and after about a half hour, the dog finally let my wife approach her.

She smelled like rotting fish, her fur was terribly matted, and she had a collar on that was severely tight, tightened irreversibly with a thick gauge stiff wire, twisted with pliers.

It had very badly dug into her neck and become infected.

The police officer that my wife had called to report animal abuse followed her to the veterinarian's office. He couldn't stand in the exam room, because he couldn't stomach the smell of rotting flesh.

When the vet sedated the dog and began shaving her to examine the wounds, the vet identified a pattern of stick beating over the top of her head.

She was in so much pain, that although sedated, she was still reacting to the vet trying to treat her, so he had to sedate her even more. He told my wife that the poor dog was likely not going to be alive much longer.

By the time he finished finding her whole wounded area, it involved everything from the shoulders, to the ears and top of her head to the eyebrow ridges.

A lot of meds and ointments, 100's of dollars, and many days of non-stop 24 hour attention later, she began recovering, and even grew back her fur.

I could spend paragraphs describing to you what a precious jewel this girl is, and I can't understand why anyone would ever feel the need to treat her the way they did. She only ever has joy and love.

She was for almost a year afraid of everyone, and when I passed anyone on the trails carrying a walking stick, I would have to ask them to momentarily put them down, lest she pulled herself right out of her collar.

Now she likes everyone. I think she sees her original owner as the exception with humans, and now understands they were not the rule.

Best. Dog. Ever.

Oh I forgot to mention, we named her Emmie.

My wife had her first dog Amber, then we had Baron, and then also adopted Chelsea, then Digger. We were up to the "E"s, so we tried to think of an apt name for her that began with "E".

Emmie is a nickname for her name, Ember.

em-ber (noun): a small piece of burning or glowing coal or wood in a dying fire.

We thought it an appropriate "E" name because her last caregiver had obviously raked her over the coals...

And here is Mr Lucky, one of the only creatures to have profited from COVID as I found him as a five week old kitten in the middle of a busy road during lockdown last year, within a minute of probably becoming roadkill, hence his name:

We have a very similar looking black stray "Smoky" with a similar story!

Abandoned in a back alley a year back, as a newborn kitten, and adopted happily by us.

Sorry to hear that Glen. I hope he does well. Exactly the same story as Lucky and the same behaviours. He tends to eat cloth, including drapes, and gets in trouble. He is currently going through his second pancreatitis as a result. Seems to be pulling through though...

Best of luck with Smoky. We can’t help but adore the miscreants...

Cheers,
Joël.
