I'm sorry, it is very difficult to get a 'still' but I try (much easier if I just focused on the band hey?
There was also a massive amount of people all made up like KISS but I did not put one single picture in :)

It's just finishing, but I only watched the bit with the orchestra, if I'm not wrong the whole thing is about/over 3 hours, includes an earlier concert with just KISS and heaps of documentary/behind the scenes.

All in all, FANTASTIC entertainment :D :D :D
Next...... honestly it does get difficult........
Hyped up on what I just watched, how do you move to something else?

Maybe I should just watch The Mary Tyler Moore Show

Led Zeppelin, Live at Earl's Court (1975) won out :)

Sorry, but I think I'm gonna sit back and watch the concert, about 1 hour 40, see you then :)

Thanks to BBC I found this.

Very much one of my favourite songs is River Deep... Mountain High and I understand there is a new musical Tina - Tina Turner the Musical.

Anyway, there is this girl in the musical, I think she does Tina... Adrienne Warren.

Check this out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=atsZHht9vc0

Kudos Adrienne

The "500" list

So, I have devised a formula for working out the best songs of all of time.
It takes into account such things as longevity, covers, moves to advertisements, movies, tv, received at time, talked about, etc.

The actual calculation makes black hole physics seem pretty simple.

So how about this, let's hear your ten songs that fit either /or both:
1. your top ten
2. in your top 25.
So who wants to start this off.

Before we do, are we happy with the 10 / 25 or should that be changed?

I hope this isn't met with deaf ears :D  music... ears.... forget it.

I'm not saying these are in my top ten but I'm having much fun listening to the covers of these: Get Back, Go Your Own Way, River Deep, Don't Rain On My Parade, at the moment.

But of course I know there are a bunch of songs I haven't considered because my brain just hasn't brought them to mind.

Music top songs is so much what you feel today, hopefully the songs of gold hold on.

No.7 would be just outside my 25. What a song! He wrote some great stuff in addition to his ' big hit' - Sweetest Smile, Listen, You're a big Girl Now, and many more. Much underrated talent, now sadly no longer with us.

He was great indeed, but here he didn't score any more hits after Wonderful Life.

It's funny to see from our lists that most music we picked is from our teenage/young adult years (I'm from 1975). I guess thats the time which forms ones musical taste.
From your list I wasn't familiar with The Stone Roses. After listening to Made of Stone I think I'll look up some more songs, they were good!

He didn't have any other hits here, either, sadly (Well, Sweetest Smile was a minor one) Wonderful Life was nearly ruined by its use in a TV ad here.

I was once informed by someone much younger that 'Everyone thinks the best year in music was the year they were 13'- which makes it 1967 for me, so I didn't really have an answer to that!! Because it really was!

The first Stone Roses album is a masterpiece - I envy you hearing it for the first time!

Bill, I hoped you might be the first to post in reply.

Thank you.

Another side to this is I know my music is limited (like it is for most countries) to what gets aired throughout the world.

What I have been exposed to would be completely different (mostly) to what you in another country would have been.

So, I asked the question, not just for your suggestions (for top 10s) but to increase my exposure to other music.

Thank you.

Keep them coming, and I will give some of my 10/25s in due course :D

Well, at least I got one Aussie band in (the Easybeats). FOMM is one of my favourite 45s, sensational record. Even Bowie couldn't damage it with his truly awful version on Pinups.
That was a decent hit in the UK. The other Aussie 45 from the 60s that I love is "War and the Hands of Time" by the Master's Apprentices. They are completely unknown in the UK, but probably better remembered in Australia - I think they even have a stamp!

This was an era in Aussie Bands, yes they say The Easybeats had a chance of pushing The Beatles off.
Master's Apprentice, wonderful, what can I say, this was the time..... :D

I remember (very young) going to a concert in Narrabundah, it lasted three days (I wasn't there for all of it obviously) but it opened my eyes to the songs you don't hear on the radio :D and you guys would never have heard of (vis-a-vis).

Doing a bit of a check, I'd say I was eleven :)

The 1970s were the first decade in which experimental ideas spread rapidly and developed substantial followings of composers and listeners in Australia. In most of the capital cities, but especially in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide, groups of experimental musicians began presenting concerts, installations, and exhibitions.

Language might be a problem too. I do not think anything sung in Dutch would ever make it outside our little country. That said, you might want to search for Golden Earring on youtube. They had one big hit in the US (Radar Love) and all their songs are in English.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sm1q1XoN_Qo

For that matter, Australian singers and bands are quite common here: Air Supply, Sheppard, Savage Garden, Bee Gees, INXS, AC/DC, Midnight Oil, Men at Work, Natalie Imbruglia, Kylie Minogue, Crowded House, John Farnham and Sia to name a few..

So, I asked the question, not just for your suggestions (for top 10s) but to increase my exposure to other music.

Thank you.

Keep them coming, and I will give some of my 10/25s in due course :D

One of my best mates at school was Evert, if you've ever been greeted by a Dutch mum you know what I'm talking about :D

Dutch bands:
FOCUS caused a bit of a stir here in the early 70s. Lots of my mates had Moving Waves album. No language issues there - they just warbled in strange voices1

Were SHocking Blue Dutch? I still have a battered 45 of 'Never Marry a Railroad Man'!

Hocus Pocus by Focus, if I'm not mistaken
Yes, Shocking Blue? Are they yours?

Used to go to bed with a radio (after I was meant to be asleep).
Best time (music) was always late at night :D

Best music TV show was only 15 minutes long. GTK

Shocking Blue are Dutch yes. They were big a bit before my time. Venus was their biggest hit.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shocking_Blue

Sadly, most members of the original band have already passed away.

I never heard of FOCUS before you mentioned them but as I searched for them on google I found out I do know a few members as they also have/had succesful solo careers. They are still active btw although not in the original setting

And I did miss your Evert joke. When I was young that name wasn't used much anymore, certainly not in the big cities.

And, of course, as everybody knows, George Young is the elder brother of Angus Young, of AC/DC fame.
But this is the Young family's major contribution to musical culture: (IMO,anyway)

And great lyrics!

Monday mornin' feels so bad
Ev'rybody seems to nag me
Comin' Tuesday I feel better
Even my old man looks good
Wed'sday just don't go
Thursday goes too slow
I've got Friday on my mind

Gonna have fun in the city
Be with my girl, she's so pretty
She looks fine tonight
She is out of sight to me
Tonight I'll spend my bread, tonight
I'll lose my head, tonight
I've got to get to night
Monday I'll have Friday on my mind

Do the five day grind once more
I know of nothin' else that bugs me
More than workin' for the rich man
Hey! I'll change that scene one day
Today I might be mad, tomorrow I'll be glad
'Cause I'll have Friday on my mind

Gonna have fun in the city
Be with my girl, she's so pretty
She looks fine tonight.
She is out of sight to me
Tonight I'll spend my bread, tonight
I'll lose my head, tonight
I've got to get to night
Monday I'll have Friday on my mind

I cannot say enough about Acca-Dacca, one of the first bands I ever saw.
Major contributors to music culture :)

Other 1970s Aussie stuff you may not have heard of, Jeff St. John, Midnight Oil, Master's Apprentices, Rene Geyer, Richard Clapton, Mental as Anything, Sherbet, Little River Band, Chain, The Saints, The Victims, The Ferrets, Dragon, Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons, Spectrum, Skyhooks, Radio Birdman, Cold Chisel, Max Merritt & The Meteors, Daddy Cool, Stevie Wright... (? Off the top of my head, hopefully all 70s)

AC/DC (audio)

and then there's my vinyls :)

I don't know where I strayed, my mate was Evert van Hem.... We went to Primary School together.
Like to hear what the 'Evert joke' is :D

He taught me some absolutely disgusting dutch phrases

I forgot the Saints! I actually saw them live in Liverpool in oooh...1978/9? They were terrific! I still have their 45 'This Perfect Day', which I still love.

I was baffled by the 'Evert joke' too :?: :?: :?:

1975 - ACDC HIgh Voltage
Baby Please Don't Go
She's Got Balls
Little Lover
Stick Around
Sould Stripper
You Ain't Got A Hold On Me
Love Song
Show Business

I still beleive this was the best album.

"Soul Stripper"

Well I met her in the garden
Underneath that old apple tree
Sitting with a handful of flowers
Looking as cool as can be
We talked away a couple of hours
Then she laid her hand on my lap
Oh I thought I got to be dreaming
I didn't know I fell in her trap

Pretty obvious I'm dong ACDC tonight :D
Note, High Voltage is not on the album High Voltage!
Top Album - Finished - currently TNT.... which has High Voltage (the song) :)

Most people who pick up Dutch phrases always seem to pick up the dirty ones first...

There were some great Dutch bands in the 70's

Earth&Fire
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4iK5e76auJA
Cuby and the Blizzards
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjN5vi_xczw
George Baker Selection
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kipjrg5O0A4

Don't know if they ever scored hits outside Europe..

Tojo Told Hitler
R L Burnside

When they bomb Pearl Harbor that night, you know?
Tojo he jumped-up out of his bed, man, dialed the operator
Operators give me 1, 1, 0, 9, said, "I wanna speak to Adolf Hitler who is a personal friend of mine."
Said, "Look operator, say, I want you to get these goddamn numbers straight."
"So tell Adolf there ain't no use in Russia ‘cos they already too mother f*cking late."
By that time the phone rang, you know, and Adolf jumped-up out of his bed
No hat on his head, no shoes on his feet and his heart beating like steel
‘Cos he knows Tojo was his driving wheel
"Hello Tojo", said, "Hello Adolpha'."
"I just called, I know you're the King of Japan this year but I'm calling to tell you I'm a worried a man."
He said, "I just told my wife before I left."
When I get to your goddamn house I'd kick your goddamn ass myself
There ain't a goddamn thing you told me come out right
I thought you said them allies couldn't fight
You fooled us well down yon in Bouganville
For 15,000 of our best men just f*cked around and got killed
Said that's what I told her last night before I left
If I get to your god damn house I'd kick your god damn ass myself
I was in the back then, you know, with my head in a paper sack
But I was steady telling Nellie to kept her belly close to mine, you know

Well, well, well
Yeah
So the bee stung the bull and started them a buckin'
Even Adam broke the law and started the whole world a-f*ckin'
JS:Oh yeah!
Yeah

And they said in the beginning, there was just two people in the world just Eve and Adam
But there must have been someone else here
Eve know somebody else but Adam didn't but Eve did
Too many different nations of people in the world
I don't care what the people said
Somebody else gettin' in-between Eves legs
Lyrics from eLyrics.net
Anyone that can make sense of that and clear it up for me, much appreciated.

(well aware of Bouganville)

OK, I'll bite:
Ten tracks that defined my musical education, in date order: (I was born 1954)
1. Telstar - The Tornadoes (1962)
2. Please Please Me - The Beatles (1963)
3. The House of the Rising Sun - The Animals (1964)
4. Friday on my Mind - The Easybeats (1966)
5. San Francisco (Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair) - Scott McKenzie (1967)
6. See Emily Play - Pink Floyd (1967)
7. Penny Lane - The Beatles (1967)
8. Voices in the Sky - The Moody Blues (1968)
9. Roadhouse Blues - The Doors (1970)
10. In the City - The Jam (1977)

And 15 others that loved for years, and always will, in no particular order:

Astronomy - Blue Oyster Cult (1974)
Echoes - Pink Floyd (1971)
The End - The Doors (1967)
Alone Again Or - Love (1967)
Wooden Ships - Jefferson Airplane (1969)
House of Four Doors / Legend of a MInd - The Moody Blues (1968)
Live Forever - Oasis (1995)
Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd (1979)
Made of Stone - The Stone Roses (1989)
Eleanor Rigby - The Beatles (1967) (Could have picked about 50 Beatles, TBH)
It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) - Bob Dylan (1965)
Who Knows Where the Time Goes? - Fairport Convention (1969)
(White Man) in Hammersmith Palais - The Clash (1979)
Who Do You Love (suite) - The Quicksilver Messenger Service (1969)
My Back Pages - Bob Dylan (1964)
I'm still working through your choices (have to admit, great stuff)
I don't know how anyone can list so quickly....
I'm astounded - and taking time to listen to the list... :)

Thanks Bill :)
