Stamp theme Jig Saw Puzzle for Lockdown

Post by S Wilson »

...I just visited the friendly Australia Post Office for some mail related business and picked up this very appropriate 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle.
The Australian stamps with their similar colours should make this quite a challenge.
Great as an indoor activity to "keep the brain active" during COVID-19 lockdown

I went and bought one as well, lockdown, needing to do something else and stamp related. :D
Anyway - the pieces are smaller than usual. Most of the images are of state stamps.

The images are the butt ugliest used stamps with torn corners and chunks missing. They probably think that's "arty"!
And I've found the unannounced mystery "Australian" stamp, being a GB 1penny!

Still should be fun.

...you are right Allanswood. Many of the stamps on the jigsaw puzzle are not the most attractive. See the "guide sheet" attached to this post
Having now completed about 1/4 of the jigsaw puzzle** I have noted the following.
Firstly, a number of the stamps have very similar colours and this makes the completion of the jigsaw more challenging.
On the other hand, the finite size of each stamp permits one to work on "one stamp at a time" so there is plenty of variety.
Then there are the pieces that cover the black space between the stamps. It is quite challenging to "fit these". Because such a piece is mostly black with intsy bits of the "teeth" of adjancent stamps on the edges. :?

On the other hand, once I have worked on the puzzle for a while something really amazing happens. I appear to get an "intuition" about certain pieces. And the selected pieces more often than not will actually fit. This is a real "buzz".

Also, I must admit that the appearance of the 1/4 completed jigsaw puzzle looks really good. It is quite large and so most of the stamps look quite imposing.

S Wilson

PS. thanks for bringing to my attention that one joined "pair" of postage stamps is indeed from the UK. Second attachment. Looking at the design of the puzzle I think a "stamp filler" was required

**I generally only work on the jigsaw puzzle for one hour in the evening. Bit by bit. I find it is a really good way of stimulating my brain whilst "winding down" from a busy day "working from home".

Found these in a second hand shop.
Ten in the pack.
Wondered what to do with them, now you gave me a good idea.

Not the most intricate puzzle but it’s just for fun anyway.

How much are these? (The 1000-piece Australian one, not the 24 piece one).

I've started mine and now SWMBO has seen it, grabbed and chair and started "edging". She probably won't go to bed until it's finished.  I've taken all the red pieces to work on another table. :D

...hi Robustian. Solving the puzzle that you have presented is a bit like completing the parts of the Australia Post Stamp jigsaw between the postage stamps i.e., the black background with the tips of the stamp teeth at either end. :D
I have attached the part of the puzzle that I completed after the first one hour evening session some time ago. That will give Stampboard Members some idea about the puzzle.
I do not wish to show a more recent update of the puzzle as I do not want to spoil the fun that Allanswood and SB members is having / will have in completing the puzzle.

On the other hand, I do not mind if Allanswood or fellow SB members show the completed puzzle.... ;)

...the last piece fitted today...
The 1000 piece jigsaw is complete :D
An Australian 50 cent piece for scale.
Quite an impressive display. Difficult to photograph as it is a bit reflective. So the photo's do not quite do justice to the variety of colours of the various stamps...

Thanks for the advice regarding the posting of images on this web page RevRed+
I will apply this in future. See below ;)

Thanks for the congrats muttly2011 :D . Once I had completed 75% of the puzzle it became a lot easier. Because there were only 250 pieces left "in the pot".

Very timely jigsaw puzzle for Oktoberfest, satsuma. This year I bought a keg of good Bavarian beer and had an Oktoberfest celebration with my "COVID Bubble Buddy". With good German sausages and the trimmings for accompanyment. See below
