Hi Desmond

You list Ocean View Vic 3226.

I think this should be Ocean Grove Vic 3226 & if it is, you won't need this one from Steve Irwin:

Hi Brad,

I'm in the middle of swapping all these covers into bigger albums, you will find if you contact Steve Irwin about this particular cover he has listed below, he sold it to me ages ago.

And at 50cents a cover, instead of 4AUD a cover, I wished I had found these earlier, would have saved some money.
I must have contacted 50 dealers all over Australia, and I have picked up 1 to 10 new ones, out of some big lists.

Hi Covers2021,

Just a note the definitive 4block FDC is on its way from Barcelona to Gerona, both in Spain. Should only take a couple of days, and hopefully by then the remaining 7 bids will have completed by then, and purchased also. So should be 11 Covers in total, I'll get them sent from Spain to you, via tracked, I think it will be about 12 Euro, but I don't want to see them get lost after all this.

Hi Cover2021,

I won all the 7 outstanding bid items, so all 11 Claremont typed addressed covers coming your way soon.

They all appear to be quiet a nice set of good clean covers, nice CDS's, etc, so should be a good start. Just except for the 4 block definitive cover having the light crease, I think that hopefully should fall out over time, if stored well.

All,

For anyone who knows about the 1977 QEII tour of the UK, I have the complete set, as well as some addition ones, most notably, a cover franked the 20th June 1977, at 'The Music Room Lancaster'. This was an unofficial stop for the tour, so not many people new about it. I have attached a picture of the cover, I have certainly never seen another one like it anywhere.

I do have another cover of it, but it's only 3 stamps, and not on the official England Tour cover.
As a note, the set consisted originally of 4 stamps, a month later they added the 9p stamp to make it become a 5 stamp set. Good covers having the complete 5 set of stamps on, are hard to get. They are often double date stamped, to show the two dates.

These are double sided covers, I have both stamp cover, and miniature sheet covers, and also the pictures being coloured, or black and white.

Hi Scrute,

I have not forgotten about the Midlands, and Nedlands PMK's FDI FDC's you are sending to Cover2021 for me, I would like to get you something in return, please let me know what you are collecting, and I'll see if I can find something for you.
Des

I am finally getting to sending these to you and I notice that you have found yourself a Nedlands. My cover does have the postmark in Purple, but I don't know if that is different from the one you have. I have just scanned it and there is a mark below the stamps about a cm from the bottom of the cover. The marks between the stamps are not on the cover. They must be a mark on the scanner. But the mark below the stamps is definitely on the cover. So I'm sorry, but you probably don't want/need this cover?

Hi Scruti,

This seems to be the problem, I have spent quiet a lot of good money, to get people descent covers to be able to swap with only to find the ones wanting to swap in the first place, are not particularly good. Yes, I have been very fortunate, I found a dealer with a number of good quality covers for very little money, and I decided to buy them all off him, which included a Nedlands.
I think once these swaps I've honoured, that will be the last of me on this board.

Thanks for everything, anyway.

Hi Brad,

I have no idea who you are referring to, I must have contacted about 100 stamp shops, and forums, all across Australia, and I don't recall a Max.
I haven't forgot the 2 others covers I have found, I believe he's away from the shop at the moment, and he's got a bag of goodies with my name on it. I've just been told via Facebook messenger he's back next week, only realised today that the company I was emailing and messaging through FB are the same company. Haven't had any replies over the last week from his email, but at least I know what's happening now.

Hi Cover2021,

Me to, there was no tracking number on them, I didn't see any insurance paid on them, I could have really lost out on them.
I've just bought 2 X 1948 Silver Wedding covers just under Β£250GBP, about 500AUD, so needless to say they are insured, and tracked, and coming from the US, so I will also have to pay import duty on them. Which will probably be another 50/100 GBP, Inc handling charges.

Your covers have been posted from Girona, Spain today. Not sure how long they will take, I would think shouldn't be any longer than 10days, should be a lot sooner.
Regards, and stay safe

Hi Covers2021,

Looking at all the pictures of them, they look like a nice quality bunch of 11 covers, all going back to atleast the same country they originated from.

Hi Covers2021,

I'll email you the tracking number when I receive it on Monday. He doesn't have it yet because of the small village PO he has sent it from yesterday, but the main PO sends it to him on Monday.

Hi Covers2021,

I received yours also today:-

Rozelle, Glenelg, and Murray Bridge

Many thanks, hopefully you will receive the 11 from Spain, real soon, will let you know of any updates.

Dear Des and Covers,

I am pleased to see your swaps working well. I'm sorry mine did not work out.

The pre-stamped envelope that Covers used to send the stamps to Des is quite interesting on its own.

1. It is one of the very few blood related philatelic items released by Australia. Maybe the only one?

2. It also used to sell for a couple of hundred dollars when it had the red "Billy blood drop" cancellation. Maybe a lot less now.

Hi Scrute,

I have lots of different covers like this I have received covers in from lots of different dealers in Australia, and all over the world.
I don't have the heart to throw them out, I keep trying to find a stamp club, to give them to, but you say that word, and it seems to be a dirty word.

Re: 1977 Australia Silver Jubilee FDI FDC's, diff. towns WANTED

Hi All,

I have just come across two signed 1977 Australia Silver Jubilee FDI FDC's, I have asked a number of people to help me identify the signature, it's the same signature on both covers?
I know of a about 100 covers signed by Lord Lichfield, who's picture is used on the 45c stamp, but this signature is definitely not his.
I know the picture used on the 18c stamp was taken by a women weekly photographer, but no record of who?
As for either Australia Post, or the other designer who was involved after showing this to Steve Irwin he doubts very much it would have been either of them, he told me about the Lord Litchfield signed covers.

Any answers on a postcard please?
1977 Aust SJ Burwood VIC 3125 - Signed
1977 Aust SJ Burwood VIC 3125 - Signed
The other cover is Geelong, I have numerous signed covers, by various distinguished dignitaries.

These covers have come in a batch of a number of various signed FDC's, which are all signed by there respective designers.

Hi Desmond

I too have been trying to solve the mystery signature.

Many of the covers in this time period are recorded in the Philatelic Bulletin as being designed by the "Australia Post Graphic Design Section".

It would be easy to identify if we knew who worked in that section at the time.

Hi BigSaint,

Steve Irwin, seems to think it would be very unlikely for any signatures to be any of the designers, but then that contradicts the two signed covers I have just bought from a dealer. Who insists these are out of a number of covers who have been signed by there respective designers, even I have a few like that.
I have a contact in the Australian PO who deals with various postmarks, he give me the list of PO's amongst other things, I'm going to send an email to him see if he can shed any light on them.
I don't know of any signature website that even exists?
https://www.stampsoftheworld.co.uk/wiki/Australia_1977_Silver_Jubilee
1977 Aust SJ Stamp Designers
1977 Aust SJ Stamp Designers

It would help if people who signed covers at least give an idea who they were, on my Concorde signed covers, they put there title after there signature, Caption, Engineer etc.
These could be Mickey Mouse, from Disney land for all I know, I am going to try and see if OCRing the signature, gives me any sort of chance to desiphere the signature.

Desmond

I would doubt that the signature above is Norman J Field. :)

BigSaint,

Me too, Norman J Field was only a printer:-

As I said above I know the photograped used for the 45c stamp was Lord Lichfield, as to the other photographer, and artists used?

BigSaint,

I just realised I was given a presentation pack, not much use really, only confirms what I already know.

BigSaint,

I've have sent an email to to PO collectors section with a copy of the signed FDI FDC, giving all the details I already know.

See if they can solve the riddle.

I have found a website that has lots of different artists signatures, but you have to pay to view the signatures. I tried lots of different letter combinations, to even find there name listed for a start, but nothing.

One thing, I will do today, is OCR (Optical Character Recognition-for those that don't know what it means), the signature, see if that produces, anything that makes sense. Essentially I have Adobe Professional, I'll see if that can do it as a start.

Good luck with getting ebay sellers to consolidate your order.

If the final despatcher letter doesnt arrive, how do you sort it out?

You have to watch when you pay, as once you pay the seller count down clock to pack & post commences. If he is late, he is penalized

Sadly some buyers think ebay is a cottage industry
Hi Towradji,

Just to let you know, I have received your 4 covers today, many thanks :-

Indeed I have them but some of yours are nicer condition of the ones I have, I notice you sent me 2 of the RV Covers, which I have also, but not the Canberra Parliament House one, that's an unusual one, because of the CDS. The other Canberra one for the same day, has the Canberra Pictorial CDS.

It was like Xmas today recived my 2 X 1948 Silver Wedding covers today, from Aus, and 24 X 1977 SJ FDI's I purchased from a seller in Australia, about a month ago for 50Β’ each.
Some indeed were better condition that some I already had, but some of the ones I really wanted are slightly marked in one way or another, so will use them as placeholders.
One thing Scrute said about his Nedlands CDS, was the ink used is blue, snap, the one I got today is the same also.
One thing I have noticed is 'storage rub', yes it might happen, but some of the duplicates I now have, have the 'storage rub' in exactly the same place for the same town CDS. I would think the odds would be very high of them being the same, I wonder if its been more a manufacturing issue with this cover, as it is more noticeable on the predominantly solid blue box on the cover.
