John, let me know when you get your prize! It's in the mail, registered.
Btw, any tips for getting Grand Final tickets for Collingwood members? My future father-in-law is a member, and it would be fun to take him, but are prices more than the State of Origin for a standard ticket?

Second Qualifying Final :
Brisbane Lions 19.9.123 defeated Port Adelaide 11.9.75
Brisbane led by 11 at 1/4 time and extended that to 16 at the half. After the break, they blew the game apart, kicking 8 goals to 4 in the third quarter and Port were unable to challenge in the final quarter.
Brisbane now get a week off before a home Preliminary final against the winner of the Melbourne vs Carlton Semi-Final, while Port will host GWS Giants in a Semi-Final next week.

Carlton 11.7.73 defeated Melbourne 9.17.71
For the second week running, Melbourne have no one to blame but themselves as they crash out of the finals in straight sets for the second year in a row. Melbourne led by 6 points at 3/4 time before Carlton kicked 2 quick goals to grab the lead. Melbourne fought back with the next 2 goals and had most of the play but couldn't put it on the scoreboard, missing shot after shot.
Carlton got back to within 3 points with 6 minutes to play, then Melbourne kicked 2 more behinds to lead by 5. Blake Acres kicked what was the winning goal with just under a minute to play and the Blues held on for the win in the frantic final seconds.
Carlton move on to play Brisbane Lions in a Preliminary Final at the Gabba next week while Melbourne's season is over. The match was played in front of a crowd of 96,412.

Boy what a close match. I had a bet on Carlton at 2.55 and chickened out half way thru Q4 as it looked like they be rolled easily.
As John said missing a lot of dead simple shots killed Melbourne - AGAIN!

GWS Giants 13.15.93 defeated Port Adelaide 9.16.70
After an even first quarter, GWS took control in the second, kicking 5 goals to 1. The second half saw Port slowly edge back into the contest and they got within 16 points before GWS kicked 2 goals to extend the lead and they held on to take the win.
The Giants book a Preliminary final against Collingwood next week while Port's season is over.

This would never happen at the MCG:
‘Snake in the grass’: Highly venomous intruder bizarrely delays AFLW game
“The snake in the grass has been found.”
It was the words from Fox Footy commentator Kelli Underwood as a sigh of relief went through Blacktown after Saturday’s AFLW game between GWS and Richmond was given the green light to go ahead after a bizarre delay.
The hold up was caused after a snake was sighted on the Blacktown International Sportspark oval ahead of the Round 3 AFLW game.
Originally scheduled to start at 1.35pm AEST, the contest was pushed back roughly 30 minutes.
GWS women’s head of football Briana Harvey told Fox Footy during the interval the field intruder was believed to be a highly venomous red-bellied black snake.
“It‘s pretty interesting,” Harvey said.
“There’s a little red-bellied black snake on the ground at the moment, just in one of the far pockets.
“Obviously for the safety of everyone here we need just to halt the game for the moment.
“It is 34 degrees here and we are surrounded by bushland, so I guess it’s not that surprising.”
While we’ve learned to expect the unexpected in recent years, suffice to say, seeing a snake delay a game didn’t seem to be in the realm of possibilities.

Received both of these items today & both postmarked "Collingwood". One from the ACT & the other from Singapore.
Is this some sort of omen

First Preliminary Final
Collingwood 8.10.58 defeated GWS Giants 8.9.57

Collingwood fought back and led by 4 at the final change and got out to 7 points half way through the quarter. GWS kicked a goal to bring the margin back to 1 point and that was the final score, with neither side scoring in the last 9 minutes.
The match was played in front of a crowd of 97,665.

I am sure the AFL now are praying for a Carlton win tomorrow.
I remember being there in 1970 when Carlton came from a long way behind at half time to defeat Collingwood in front of a record (& it is still a record) crowd of over 120,000.

Second Preliminary Final
Brisbane Lions 11.13.79 defeated Carlton 9.9.63
Carlton started brilliantly kicking the first 5 goals of the match. Brisbane fought back in the second quarter to hold a 3 point lead at half time. Brisbane then took control kicking the only 3 goals of the third quarter and the first of the final term. Carlton kept on fighting kicking 3 of the last 4 goals but it wasn't enough to stop the lions from advancing to meet Collingwood in the Grand Final.

Grand Final
Collingwood 12.18.90 defeated Brisbane Lions 13.8.86
In front of a capacity crowd of 100,024, Collingwood hold off the Brisbane Lions in a closely contested match to win their 16th VFL/AFL premiership to equal the record of Carlton & Essendon.
Brisbane hit the lead through Charlie Cameron with about 6 minutes to play but Collingwood answered immediately with goals from Jordan De Goey & Steele Sidebottom, before Joe Daniher brought the margin back under a goal with under 2 minutes to play.
A contentious advantage call after a free kick to Brisbane in the last minute stopped them from making another deep attack and Collingwood were able to win the ball back and run out the clock in the dying seconds.

Told you so!
I reckon they could have easily got 150,000 people in the crowd if the seating capacity at the stadium was larger. Lots of disappointed members and plenty of non-members weren't able to get seating because not all that many seats were available beyond the usual sponsors, corporate boxes etc

Re: 2023 AFL Footy Tipping Comp: Win a 1d Black + 3 other valuable prizes!
Yes I was there in 1970.
In that game, Peter McKenna's was concussed after colliding with teammate Des Tuddenham during the second quarter which undoubtedly contributed greatly to Collingwood's second-half demise. Nevertheless, he finished the game with 6 goals, more than anybody else on the ground.
Peter signed this about 15 years ago & at the time was working as a driver in the car pool for the Victorian Parliament. There was not the money in AFL then as there is today.
