Somebody will have to get Phoenix to add it to their post office list. I imagine it's probably very rare, but it's still unfortunately incomplete.

I have made several posts referring to Phoenix's incomplete listing. No one seems to agree ergo we have members here relying only on Phoenix as a source. It is neither exhaustive nor comprehensive. H&T although long out of date is still an adjunct for NSW as is Mishel's reverse listing. Unfortunately the latter did not publish a list for Victoria or the NT. I have his lists for: NSW, WA, Tas, SA and Qld.

Mishkel is now deceased and I am unable to contact his son to obtain permission to republish those lists. I must contact Geoff Kellow to seek permission.

I do not know if someone is documenting all the unlisted POs and their scans that have been sold in the recent Phoenix sales. Hopefully David is adding those to their listings. The assumption I made was that Phoenix would have used H & T as a foundation for their NSW listings.

There is a backwards listing for Victoria in the Watson, Webster & Wood reference work Volume One.

Small datelines were introduced in 1957 at the same time machine made postmarks were.

I am aware that Phoenix is not completely comprehensive, but it's one of the better sources. I'm not actually sure where I would get a copy of H&T's book. I became aware of how incomplete the listings are when I couldn't find my unframed Yalca, Victoria postmark in their listings.

Hopson & Tobin's NSW books turn up from time to time on ebay and also at conventional auctions.

Terry,

Tobin states 1956 as the year the Postmaster-General's Department initiated changes to the engraving and composition of new style of date-stamps. This was shown in the excerpt I previously posted illustrating the Type 3(i)s etc.

I've never understood the point of small date and time wheels. Postmarks are supposed to indicate the place and time of posting, making it smaller makes it even harder to read and more likely to become unreadable due to smudging.

The Handheld Postmarks of South Australia and the Northern Territory have a complete listing of NT post offices and usages of cancels. Probably the most useful for those two states, better than Phoenix, but that's not to denigrate Phoenix their focus is really Victoria.

Phoenix is like every other listing you can find, it's specialized in one state. It makes it hard for the general Australia postmark collector because you need to buy half a dozen different reference works, none of which are inexpensive.

Just looked this one up on Phoenix and realized it's probably quite rare. Does anyone know the rarity rating for Entrance North, NSW? It's not the best postmark but at least it's readable. It's also a really odd name for a city.

Most of the people on eBay don't know what they're selling or how valuable it is. I've gotten some really great bargains on eBay from sellers who have no idea what they're selling.

The Entrance is a town on the NSW central coast, so named as the entrance to Tuggerah Lakes is at the same place.

Entrance North PO was just north of there.

It's a wonderful place with loads of things to do for folks who like a coast, beach or lake environment.

I didn't want to buy it, I already have one even if it's not quite as clear. I was simply pointing out that every time something is posted on the board someone snipes it from eBay almost as soon as it's posted. I bought mine for under US$1 so I wasn't about to pay that much for another one.

Obviously Stampboards is the place to advertise to sell these things. Raymond had that on eBay for nearly 7 years.

Perhaps Stampboards needs to charge a fee for these things.

I believe there are four varieties of these postmarks, and the one you show seems to be the closest considering the position of the T. I also have this example but it's not as clear. The real problem is that the space for the E in Micky's postmark seems to be much further away from the O.

Actually if you look in the Western Australia postmark site my first example doesn't really match any of the ones they show. The T on mine is higher then it should be. But the problem is that a lot of their examples are not actual photographs of the postmarks but illustrations.

I noticed the inconsistency as well. Sketches should have been replaced with actual strikes for improved accuracy & comparisons.

The 'F' of your recent example is slightly different in position compared to Micky's strike.

The spacing on Micky's example is exceedingly different in many ways, and what should be a G definitely doesn't look like one. But the spacing makes it seem unlikely it's anything but a TPO.

I concur. As well, the slope of the supposed 'E' of Mic ky's example does not agree with the sketch I posted from the "PMI".

eharpher,

Can you post a collage of the examples you have? ...or have we seen all of them?

Those are the only two I have. None of them have the E so far away from the O. I thought the supposed P might be an A with one of the legs missing, but there's still nothing that would fit with TA either.

Even if it was, the spacing is completely wrong for a normal postmark. Here's another TPO EGF postmark I found on Delcampe. It's on a postcard going from Coolgardie, WA to Dover, England.
