Dominica 1990 World Cup Football missing overprint

Post by richnoddy »

Not sure whether I have missed something, or just being a bit thick!
I have a set of 4 stamps and 2 souvenir sheets of the 1990 World Cup Football, overprinted Commonwealth of. Fine, as described in SG, No. 1383/87.

However, I also have a set and 2 souvenir sheets with COMMONWEALTH OF overprint missing.

I can find no reference in SG or Michel.

Any thoughts?

I get this error message...image is 800kb, and there is no "place in line" button?

You shouldn't be entering any sort of url.

You should be uploading the image as a file, rather than trying to link to an image elsewhere on the internet, if that's what you're doing.

Upload using drag and drop if on a desktop, or use the 'Add files' button.
If using D&D, the image MUST drop into the message edit space, otherwise you will just load the image onto your browser in place of the Stampboards page.

I am not posting a link. I have used the add file button, which then appears to load the image but when I aDD caption the only option is delete file, or hit enter. There is no save or upload button.

Alternatively I have dragged and dropped in to the message box but it simply doesn't appear.

I am not inexperienced in these thing. The only other things I can think of is image size (800kb) or incompatible browser? (Mozilla Firefox).

I use Firefox all the time and have done for a decade or more. NO problems.

If you use D&D the image doesn't appear immediately, you'll see this:

Screenshot 2024-06-13 at 17.52.21.png
Status at right should be green.
Then you add the caption (File Comment)
Then you click 'Place inline'.

At ANY stage you can press Preview, to see how it will look.

Brad, however you try to load a picture it won’t work unless the status light turns green. If as He says it is always a yellow triangle then there is something wrong with either the image or the site at the time he is trying.

Ian

I like to use the Julie Andrews method, "Start at the very beginning, it's a very good place to start". However if you are satisfied that the OP is doing the image process correctly, then let's ask richnoddy how he is saving his images. Is it in jpg. jpeg or png formats? If it is something else then richnoddy will receive the dreaded yellow triangle.

Good point, but surely the warning tells him that...? Or maybe he doesn't understand it.

I've been checking in on this thread for the last few days hoping to see some stamps from Dominica.
Unfortunately, they have not been forthcoming, and after 5 days with 14 replies, I don't think they will be.

So I did a quick look on ebay, and found pictures of a set (no souvenir sheets) with "COMMONWEALTH OF" and without. They are posted below, and maybe this will get things back on track again.
Dominica: with "COMMONWEALTH OF".
Dominica: with "COMMONWEALTH OF".
Dominica: without "COMMONWEALTH OF".
Dominica: without "COMMONWEALTH OF".

I am guessing here that Dominica was issued first and then they realised Commonwealth of was missing so they were then re-printed with the correction.
