Hello all. Some background info. I'm in my 50s served in desert shield and storm. Currently retired now in the Philippines married to a lovely loving Filipina.

I recently got hold of my grandfathers stamp collection in storage and would like to auction it off. Id like to use the proceeds in more practical uses like real estate investment. I'm sure this collection would be far more appreciated in a blue blooded collector.

That being said. Thank you Glen for this site and I hope I can help and enlighten collectors with my grandpa's collection.

Hi Everyone,
My name is Rod and I live in Fremantle, Western Australia. I have been collecting on and off
for over 50 years, but now that I am retiring shortly I want to get back in to my collections -
I will have a lot of sorting to do!
I collect Great Britain before 2000, as well as Australia, Australian States and former dependencies
also only up to 2000.
Look forward to finding my way around here.
Cheers,
Rod.

So DO wander around, and add a few posts. I am amazed how many members sign up, make just one Welcome post in this thread, and we never see them post again.

If all members did that, we'd only have 27,000 posts over our past 19 years - not our over 11 MILLION messages and over TWO MILLION images. We are the WIKIPEDIA of stamp collecting. So please, make post #2 now, and get the “Newbie Jacket” off your back. :)

Get to just 5 posts, and you get a brand new colour member star and ranking. Same with 10 posts, and 25 posts etc - https://tinyurl.com/StarsSB

Best of all, new members can claim their choice of superb FREE stamps just by clicking this link – a superb reason to get off post #1! All details here –

https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=50036

And here is a great link for ALL members to bookmark - new AND old members! To have a quick look at the current hot discussions on stampboards at ANY time, simply click – https://tinyurl.com/SBDnew

https://www.stampboards.com/search.php?search_id=newposts

If you are NOT logged in, you usually cannot see that. The board moves so fast now, you'll miss NOTHING new, if you bookmark that link.

You can see “what’s hot” that day, and click immediately on the thread(s) that interest YOU most. Add a comment please to those that interest you.

We have TWO on board “Search” Engines. The one at top of page, and the VERY powerful site specific Google hosted one right at base of page.

This one single Roll Call thread, has had WAY over a 1.2 MILLION page views! Join in. :D

Please READ and act on, your recent ‘Welcome’ Email, and DO have a quick read of our simple Rules linked here below, and learn how to post images etc - it answers ALL your questions -

Hello everyone,

I've been collecting on and off since I was young, but recently had the urge to get back into it and learn more.
My main collection is of Tristan da Cunha stamps and covers. I was drawn to collecting these after finding a Tristan stamp in my collection - at this point I'd never even heard of the island, so I decided to learn more through collecting their stamps. Their postal history is also pretty interesting. I also have a thematic collection of Isle of Man stamps related to the TT. (Maybe I have something about islands...)

Completing my collection at the moment are British stamps from the 90s and 00s, and a scattering of other stamps from countries I have visited.

Looking forward to joining in some discussions!
Matthew

Hello Matthew = calshot, somewhere in the UK :D

Have you discovered that specialists find many varieties in the early Tristan da Cunha stamps, especially the St Helena overprints?

Here is a nice postage due item currently on eBay:

Greetings from Australlia.

As children, myself and two siblings had a family stamp collection. Our father was the founder of this collection which he began as a child in about the 1930s or 40s. The collection has been languishing in a cardboard box since the 1960s.

Having recently retired, I have begun to browse the collection last looked at in 1966.

The collection contains more than a few thousand stamps spanning the period from the Great Britain Penny Reds to the 1960s. The larger part of the collection is from Australia, Greece, Great Britain, United States, France, Netherlands and Germany.

They were housed hinged in small printed albums of the world, photo albums, sheets of paper stapled together as DIY albums, two small stock books and many sorted into standard paper envelopes and loose in a chocolate box.

Of particular nostalgic interest is “The ETA Album - POSTAGE STAMPS of THE WORLD” ETA gave away small stamp packets with each purchase of their products such as ETA peanut butter.

Hello I am from Perth Western Australia.

My interest in stamps started about 8 years ago when I was gifted a very large in fact huge collection of stamps.

They are very well organised with each stamp put in a small envelope with the quantity put on the envelope and also a catalogue number which I haven’t been able to work out.

So I am hoping with all the knowledge in this group I will be able to better understand my collection and perhaps the value of some of the stamps.

Hi all!

A little background on me in relation to stamps:

I don't collect them but I do enjoy them
I had some exposure as a child through a friend and had fun but never started collecting myself
When I was selling things online I became curious if I could post things cheaper in order to save/make a few extra pounds. I ended up buying a Lighthouse album on ebay with a mostly commemorative collection with about £95 of unused decimal for about £65 and that was how that started!

Years later I have bought and used probably a couple of thousand pounds worth of postage. Hopefully that doesn't make me public enemy no. 1 for dismantling so many presentation packs and prestige booklets!

I do hope that some of my "covers" have made it into some collections, I post a fair bit abroad too so maybe someone in some farflung place has used stamps I have sent in a collection - I hope so!

Having seen the "unusual/busy covers" thread I feel guilty for having thrown away some of my returned mail!

I've got a bunch of stuff which is either not decimal mint or is worth more than face, or otherwise seems like it might be of interest to collectors - I don't think most of it is high value enough to sell here unfortunately!

Hello BazzaB, greetings from another stamp user!
I am a Penpaller and Stamp User. I send therefore I receive. I have a snail mail forum, A World of Snail Mail. I may need help to postally use RM postage stamps - does anyone want to get into letter writing or up for occasional missives?
