Australia 1938 (150th Anniversary) Stamp Cinderella Labels

Post by waroff49 »

While I have the opportunity, I have scanned some full sheets of the 150th Anniversary of the founding of New South Wales in 1788 (1938).

As the originals of these scans have only been loaned to me by GOMC2, I am asking all members to be mindful of the rules of Stampboards of using scans by a third party for profit.

He has loaned them to me to further the appreciation of the material and for reference purposes only.

Non-Stampboard members, these items are posted for reference purposes only and are not to be copied in any form, without the express permission of the owner of the material.

I apologise for the two parts but the sheet is bigger than the A4 scanner. And too wide to fit horizontally.

Bill no idea what your rather curious Copyright warning relates to, but I doubt those blurry and totally washed out scans are going to be hijacked by anyone, at any time, for any reason. :)

These sheets sell for a dollar a stamp or so in fresh MUH. and are not hard to locate.

This much clearer scan below is from my stock, in the correct colour adjustment, that I sold this week.

All copyright thieves and stamp photo gangstas - please be my guest.

The internet is just that - open source for dissemination of knowledge - and the more folks that share these images, the happier I am.

Point of interest .. just because someone owns a stamp it does NOT mean they have any legal rights whatever over the image depicted thereon.

No more than if you own a Norman Lindsay painting and want to sell posters or drink coasters or T Shirts of it. Try it and see - Lindsay's estate will sue you. THEY own the rights to the image - not you.

I agree, with the scans, maybe because they are enclosed in plastic with a stiffener, which I didn't want to open. They may not be worth much, but I didn't want to damage them, as they are 70 years old.
Thank you for adding your clear crisp images.
(Note: To self.... time for a new scanner.....)

borneo they are mostly badly toned/foxed as now 70yo, and/or stuck together, due to the thick UK gum being sent here to the tropics and I'll be DELIGHTED to let you have the next batch of those cheap.

The Parramatta labels with the green frame at the top of this thread, are much scarcer than the Sydney 150th Anniversary ones shown below them.

Hi all
- I just unstuck one of these sheets that had folded in on itself.
It unstuck almost instantly!Great images too.
Were these labels used in the post? As I haven,t seen any used examples at all?
It seems a shame there were no stamps issued based upon them.

Skippy would you have any more information on the yellow frame issue.

Amount of labels in the set Etc. Looking at your graphic with rows of 7 I suspect that the sheet configuration would be 7x7 49.

I have seen at least 33 different labels from the sheet but only as singles. The same as the first beige issue.

Any more information would be great.

I will post the images I have in the next week or so

Thanks

Skippy, I should receive the labels some time later this week.

In the scans from Ebay the labels overlap so I can't see all the names. I will scan them and list them ASAP.

Can you make out the names on your listing of the 14 yellow labels?. The resolution is too coarse for me to read them.

Finally would anyone have a copy of the Parramatta label "Old Fox Under
The Hill Inn"

Just the orange ones in this style. I have full sets of the beige and parramatta labels.

In the full coloured Centenary or Anniversary Sets I am looking for Melbourne & Victorian First series scouts jamboree (4) The second series (all), South Australia (all).

I was fortunate to pick up both Melbourne & Victorian facsimile sheets last week.

These scans are the total (24) that I bought. The overall print quality is poor compared to the beige and Parramatta issue.

The overall quality, look at the perfs, could be classed as cheap and nasty. But guess what that is exactly what they were. Produced as a cheap giveaway to be stuck on postal items.

Trying to compare them, 72 years down the track, with the modern produced labels will only give the collector grief.

These are probably the only ones that I will ever own. The only others I have seen were listed by Skippy (I wonder if he wants to sell them??) Ha Ha These are the scarcest of the 3 like issues reflected by the buy price of 4 times the others.

Still I an very happy to have them.

Skippy I am having trouble trying to establish the quantity of labels for the orange 150th Anniversary issue.
I came across another thread where you were talking about this issue with a member who had some labels for sale back in 2011. The quantity of labels was 44. This does not seem to fit any known sheet configuration that I can see.
Any Help would be good

Australia 1938 150th Centenary Cinderellas x 29 unused

Now and again you see a stray single label in an old collection, but not in blocks. We have here a quarter sheet of 12 from RH side of master sheet, with margins. These are LARGE .... about 4 times the size of the Definitive stamps of this era.

I've seen TONS of the 1937 NSW Sesquicentenary sheets, as that had NATIONAL (indeed Global) appeal. This one despite being more colorful, seems to have had far less made or sold. Indeed I seldom see even singles.

Each large stamp has the imprint at base - "Design - Govt Printer NSW".

I thought you might be interested in what came with it in the envelope:-
