Not too many Australian bird stamps have been posted recently as WNS have not downloaded any Australian stamp issues for 2019.

However, to whet the appetite, here is an indication of the Bird Emblems set to be issued on 21 April 2020.

2. The garganey is a small dabbling duck. It breeds in much of Europe and western Asia, but is strictly migratory, with the entire population moving to southern Africa, India, Bangladesh and Australasia in winter, where large flocks can occur. This species was first described by Linnaeus in 1758

3. The Manipur bush quail is a species of quail found in northeastern India and Bangladesh inhabiting damp grassland, particularly stands of tall grass. It was first collected and described by Allan Octavian Hume on an ornithological expedition to Manipur in 1881

4. The lesser florican, also known as the likh or kharmore, is the smallest in bustard family and the only member of the genus Sypheotides. It is endemic to the Indian Subcontinent where it is found in tall grasslands and is best known for the leaping breeding displays made by the males during the Monsoon season.

MS issued by India on 18-Sep-2017 depicting "Vulnerable Birds"

Birds depicted:
1. The Nilgiri wood pigeon is large pigeon found in the moist deciduous forests and sholas of the Western Ghats in southwestern India. They are mainly frugivorous and forage in the canopy of dense hill forests.

2. The broad-tailed grassbird is a species of Old World warbler in the Locustellidae family. It is endemic to the Western Ghats of India with a possibility of occurrence in Sri Lanka. A small, mostly brown bird, it has a broad rounded and graduated tail.

3. The Nilgiri pipit is a distinctive species of pipit that is endemic to the high altitude hills of southern India. Richer brown in colour than other pipits in the region, it is distinctive in having the streaking on the breast continuing along the flanks

Sagi, A superb series of miniature sheets that make me jealous. I suspect Kevin Headley will feel the same although he has many more of similar appeal!.
I prefer to collect UK, British Commonwealth esp Pacific area ( not excluding West Indies/Canada ) and Western Europe. At the bottom of my zone of interest is Eastern Europe and communist countries.
