Niue:

NZ Stamps overprinted Niue CORONATION ISSUE-SG#72,#73,#74, postmarked Niue 13th May 1937

Addressee Mr S Mitchell of Perth, Western Australia is another Australian fdc producer.

MWP tells us his first fdc was the "Opening of Parliament House Canberra, 9th May 1927" & he produced fdcs in Perth for almost 30 years.

There is no suggestion in MWP that Mitchell produced fdcs for other countries & this fdc is similar to the one shown in MWP on page 74. However this cover could have been used in any Commonwealth country for the Coronation of King George VI.

The addressee William Ackland was a stamp dealer in Melbourne for 60 years in Melbourne up to his death in 1953. He was not recognised as a fdc cover producer.

Fiji:

175th Anniversary of the Discovery of Rotuma by HMS Pandora in August 1791 stamps (SG 351 to 353) issued 29th August 1966.

Rotuma is a Fijian dependency, consisting of Rotuma Island and nearby islets located 646 kms north of Fiji. The island group is home to a large & unique indigenous ethnic group which constitutes a recognisable minority within the population of Fiji.

The addressee J M Hedstrom Jnr is undoubtedly one of the 3 sons of Sir John Maynard Hedstrom (Fijian businessman & politician) who I discussed earlier on this thread, but I am unable to quickly find any information on him. Sewell & Sewell, I believe were a legal firm.

Added this cool old survivor to stock cheaply this week. WWI Registered Censored cover SAMOA o/p on NZ to UK. (Stock 613AK)

A Rare beast. The NZ overprint set to 1/- KEVII of SAMOA Registered to UK … has blue crayon manuscript “APIA 75” to denote the locally applied Registration number.

Watery ‘’Passed By Censor’’ straightline handstamp under the 2½d Blue. New Zealand of course seized SAMOA from the Germany in WWI of course.

All tied by neat cds ‘’APIA – 7 MR 16’’, and backstamped with ‘’London Registered’’ arrival.

NEVER had one of these before. Well over a Century old and surprisingly clean, as been in UK near all its life. At near HALF the price of the current PO year album here from the PO. Insane! .

I found another of the Niue - Peace 1946 fdc this time registered to J C Thompson of Sydney:

Mr J C Thompson was also a collector of Australian fdcs & his name is often seen on scarce & highly priced Australian fdcs of the late 1940s & early 1950s.
