Hi Folks

I'm completely new to the stamp world and looking for some education and advice.
My Father inherited a stamp collection from his Father after him passing away many years ago. (i'm sure I'm not the first person to be posting such a topic so sorry if you've heard similar stories before) He finally got round to having a look through it. He thinks there are some rare ones in the collection and was looking to get them valued and potentially sold.
Are there regular auctions, sales online etc that I could check out? There's far too many scammers nowadays and I don't know the first thing about them.
Any correspondence will be greatly appreciated.
If I manage to figure how to upload some pictures I will.
Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone ,
I am an Italian collector and I live in Padua.
I am interested in the postal history of Lombardy-Veneto and the Kingdom of Sardinia, but also in other sectors concerning the colonial period or the First World War.
Greetings, Alforte.

Hi Folks

I'm new here looking for advice and information how to value and potentially sell my late GrandFather's collection.
My Father has finally got round to looking at them all and informs me there are hundreds.
I will upload pics when I figure out how to.

Thanks

Hi Glen and the StampBoards community.

Introducing myself....

I'm Kevin Heard from Hamilton New Zealand. Originally from SA and immigrated in 2017.
I started collecting 3 years ago and have found the hobby both addictive and enlightening - I have learned heaps about New Zealand history just from collecting. I collected for a short while but then COVID hit bringing a pause, but I now have a chance to pick it up again.

My focus is to collect only New Zealand used and unused examples (singles and 4 blocks) for each stamp release along with the offical FDC. I also collect non-official FDC as long as they have the same date as the stamp release.

Great community!

You (and other collectors of Irish stamps) might enjoy a sequence of posts I have just started on the stamp series History of Ireland in 100 Objects. It looks particularly at the artistic and cultural dimensions of those objects that are "hand made". It begins at

and the plan is for it to continue as time permits.

Kevin, we note you have contributed to offsetting the Kiwi —> Aus migration of recent years ;)
Those of us who are long-time stamp collectors probably got hooked early on the fact that you "unintentionally" learn a great deal about the world while indulging in the fun and stimulation that are the "official reasons" for stamp collecting.

Hey dudes and dudettes, I'm from Suffolk, England and I'm a closet stamp collector. Mainly focusing on pre decimel British, British Machins, USA pre 1960, Australia & NZ pre 1960. Managed to accumulate other stuff along the way and as a bit of a hoarder I can't seem to let it go...

Super-Rudge

I am originally from Hull, England, lived in the United States since 1979.

I am also a bit of a hoarder. However I realize the problem and it is not with stamps rather than all the associated detritus that comes along - philatelic magazines, auction catalogues, periodicals and to a lesser extent books.

Enjoy Stampboards and enjoy posting.

The revenue stamps of the Austro-Hungarian Empire are beautiful. Those issued for use in Lombardy-Venetia are not quite as easily found as those issued for use in Austria and Hungary. I'm sure you know this very well, and your avatar already shows a detail of one of them. Other viewers of this thread might not be familiar with those revenues, so here are some, so everyone can see just how beautiful they are :D

Lombardy-Venetia, 1855: 75c revenue

Thank you all for the welcome!
I agree with Eleonora in defining the Lombardy-Venetia revenue stamps very beautiful and interesting.
They can be collected as revenue stamps but are much more sought after used in place of postage stamps.
A greeting.

Usage of revenue stamps to pay postage is certainly a fascinating thread in postal/social history.

Welcome,

Without pictures you are setting us an impossible task.

The majority of stamp collections (including mine) aren't worth much on the open market .... but some are.

A few scans of album pages / stock book leaves will give experienced collectors a good idea which category yours fall into.

Sometimes the difference between a rare stamp and one that is ten a penny is not immediately obvious to folk who've not put the hard hours in studying their subject.

Greetings from Denmark.

I have recently revived my childhoods small stampcollection.
Apart from a few selected stamps and sheets with a special meaning for me, I collect Motorcycle stamps (as motorcycles and riding them are my main hobbies). A few stamps with ravens and wolves (norsemen will understand) are also present.

I stumbled over this forum looking for stamps of mentioned themes.

That’s all for now, folks!

Hello all,

Im from Singapore.
I recently inherited a large collection of stamps (both overseas used postage stamps as my mum worked as a secretary and Singapore 1stday covers) from my mum.

As the stamps are placed in 6 large plastic boxes and there are used stamps from various countries, i would like to seek your advice on which countries stamps are worth reviewing, keep so that it may rise in value and where i can sell the Singapore 1st covers as a bulk as there are just too many to list individually.

Thank you all
