Was Cuba 1933, SG391 the first stamp to depict a MANGO?

Post by supsu »

Hello!

I was wondering if anybody could confirm or provide further information about the 1933 Cuban stamp "Mango trees at Baragua" which shows mango trees on the stamp, about it being the first stamp ever to depict mango/mango trees on stamps?

Also I would highly appreciate if anybody who knows more about this stamp would be interested or willing to provide further information about its background.

I'm currently working on a mango themed collection and according to my research that i've done so far it ought to be the first stamp. the next mango stamp should be from the Portuguese Sao Tome from 1948 SG409 and has "Manga" written on the stamp although you can find it online only under "Mangifera indica" name.

This 1948 stamp comes also in a souvenir sheet version SG410a. Both the SG409 and SG410a are rather expensive, especially the sheet version. I wonder if there is also a imperf version out there?

I've gathered most of the stamps over a year now but I'm still lacking certainty whether 1933 issue is the first one. I will try to post here more on the research done so far and images as well. :)

Interesting post as I live part time in Cuba and their mangoes are superb tasting and there are several varieties.
Also, the mango tree with very broad leaves suffers greatly during a hurricane.
