Help Identify United Arab Republic - Unknown Stamps

Post by Uppercanadian »

Hello,

I was hoping you could help me to identify this stamp. It is very similar to the Egyptian stamp issued on July 10, 1962 (Sc#555) to commemorate the Proclamation of the National Charter. One major difference is the date on the stamp though, that shows "1963". I cannot find it anywhere in Scott. Even looked under UAR in Syria section, and found nothing. Help would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks

Egypt issued no 20m (commemorative) stamps during 1962-63-64, so apparently there was no 20m postal rate. Also, nearly every Egyptian commemorative of this period had at least minimal text in English. Plus the cancel does not look postal.

Based on these three factors, I think your stamp is a revenue.

Well , i had a close look at Leon Balian specialized Catalogue of Egypt , and all what i found is the same design but with 10 M. fee and it is written post on them , 2 coloures ( blue & brown ) "proclamation of the National Charter " No. 303 , p.11*11.25 . since this one does not have the word "post"on it so i'm sure that this is an internal Revenue .and this one was stamped "cancelled ".
as for the 4 small ones , they are not listed , but from the words written on them , they are revenues used in the postal offices for the saving booklets . ( we have a system in the Egyptian post offices that you can open a saving account in the post office and they give you an official booklet that they regaister on it your deposits & withdrawings.
I hope this information will help .

Hello KRAZZY ,
No this is not the free of hunger issues , if you are refaring to the illustrations on the stamps , this was the symbols of July 23rd revelution 1952 , a farm , a factory , wheat leaves ,& a house .
and the translation on the stamps refares to the saving booklets of the post offices .

Hi, just been looking up these as well, as I’ve just acquired the 5m & 20m values. Searching Google shows that these are Egypt revenue stamps for “agricultural savings”.

They’re not listed in SG, so probably not in Scott either, since they are revenues.

Yes , they are revenues for the postal saving box , not the agricultural saving .
Means that the post offices used to and still has a small personal saving account to increase the awareness of saving for the youth . These revenues from the sixties and you can find loose stamps and booklets from this issue.
You will find it listed on peter faltus Revenues of Egypt Catalogue.
