Status International Stamp Auctions - misleading description

Post by blue-within-blue »

Buyers beware - the classic British Guiana 1852 4 cents blue in the next Status International auction is misdescribed. I raised this with them 2 weeks ago, but they have left the description unchanged.

When I recently complained about this, they blocked me and accused me of being an "internet troll".

Their catalogue description for lot 1729 says it has "sl" (slight) recoloured surface rubbing. But the photo attached to the 1983 certificate shows that this should say "extensive" recolouring. There are numerous white areas visible on the photo, all now repainted, so the certificate is largely irrelevant. Any new certificate would certainly mention those repairs. And somehow "creases" on the certificate has now become "minor trace of pressed crease".

You would think people would be bright enough these days to realise that the invariable & immediate reaction to such a response is to publicise both the initial issue and the unsatisfactory reply for all to see.

Folks - ALWAYS add a link or a scan or capture in such cases - Status auctions vanish after each sale as I recall.

One thing is for sure - it will not be selling at this price band - PLUS the 22% Buyer Fees.

Personally, I think it looked more attractive, before someone messed around with it!

How very, very, clever and 'helpful' to add a link to totally mono texts, with zero images.

ALL of which can of course vanish overnight, as it used to be.

"Slight rubbing to recoloured surface" might have been a better wording?

Or, even better "substantial recolouring to heavily rubbed surface"?

Or, even better "substantial LATER recolouring to the heavily rubbed/scuffed surface that was shown on the Certificate"

Not surprisingly, UNSOLD and now "available for sale at indicated reserve (AU$5000) plus 21.45% buyer's commission plus postage & insurance."

Total $6072 + p&p, or about £3510 ; 29% of CV.

Coming soon to an Ebay auction near you ...
