I am a little light on for the "Souvenir of the Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement" overprints in 1977 but here is what I have:
Famous Australians stamps fdc postmarked Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement fdi - 10th November 1976 with "Souvenir of Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement" overprint with "Souvenir" correctly spelled.

This was the last Australian stamp issue of 1976

So it appears that the overprint used for 1977 had the incorrectly spelled "Souveneir" which wasn't corrected because nobody noticed or nobody cared.

I have one more of the Swan Hill Pioneer Settlement cancel on the Christmas 1978 FDC.

The overprint (without typo) is the basic “Souvenir of Pioneer Settlement” type.

Hi BigSaint,

And all this started because of me posting a picture to show how different my 1977 Aust SJ Pioneer Settlement FDI FDC was compared to your two. Strange how it appears to have only happened in 1977, must have been a good New Year's party 😁
I posted it on my thread but no one said anything, it was only when I posted it on yours it was spotted easier.

Hi BigSaint,

I wonder if the same is the case with the 1977 Australia Silver Jubilee FDI Pioneer Settlement FDC's, the two different overprints. I have the one with the spelling mistake.
I have only seen one for mine upto now, but something to watch out for.

Desmond

I doubt it. It looked like it changed on 18th October 1978.

There have been a number changes to the Swan Hill overprint over the years & at one stage they seemed to change annually. The big question here is why did it change "mid-issue".

However just because I haven't seen something doesn't mean it doesn't exist, so don't let me stop your search.

Perhaps there were two overprints being applied at the same time?

Does anyone know how the overprints were applied?

Private hand-stamp/s, on-site printer/s, off-site printer/s?
Cheers

A pick up at Brighton Philatelic Society last Tuesday night:

1978 Hors Racing fdc postmarked South Yarra Vic fdi postmark - 18th October 1978
South Yarra is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, 4 km south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Cities of Melbourne and Stonnington local government areas. South Yarra recorded a population of 25,028 at the 2021 census.

The area east of Punt Road is in the City of Stonnington and the area to the west is in the City of Melbourne.

The main shopping region of South Yarra runs along Toorak Road and Chapel Street. Trade along these two arteries are focused on trendy and upmarket shopping, restaurants, nightclubs and cafe culture. The area of South Yarra centred along Commercial Road was for several decades one of Melbourne's gay villages.

South Yarra is also home to some of Melbourne's most prestigious residential addresses. Residential land price records (per square metre) have been set by properties in Domain Road, Walsh Street and Fairlie Court.

The area was settled by European settlers in the 1830s, around the time of the establishment of Melbourne. During the 1840s, it became popular with wealthy citizens of Melbourne as a suburban retreat from the town. Several large houses were built and, together with neighbouring Toorak, it maintained its upper-class reputation into the post-World War II period. South Yarra Post Office was open briefly in 1854, then reopened on 21 June 1858.
