Re: Discussion on the New Zealand Railway Charges stamps
Just noting that the latest version (15) of the monograph on these is now online at http://www.78rpm.net.nz/couriers/NZR/New%20Zealand%20Railway%20Charges%20stamps%20ebook.pdf
Still good money being paid for the more obscure stations, like the $1,111 just this week on Trademe for three copies of the Band 8 Taneatua station overprint - two 3d Type I and a 1/6d Type II.
Cheers
Adam.

Re: Discussion on the New Zealand Railway Charges stamps
I was keen to get the next edition (16th) of the online study monograph on these stamps up before 2022, and have just made it.
http://www.78rpm.net.nz/couriers/NZR/New%20Zealand%20Railway%20Charges%20stamps%20ebook.pdf
It contains many updates, including (at long last) images of the “K” perfin and a KINGSWAY BOND watermarked example. It also adds a high-value franking piece, a new Charges To Pay type, and no less that seven more 10/- plums to the visual record (I've been digging through past runs of local auction catalogues, courtesy of the library of the RPSNZ).
Of special recent sale interest is this secondary station overprint TIRAU, on PUTARURU. Secondary stations appear as handstamps on other stations’ stamps, it being conjectured that they did not conduct sufficient business to justify having properly overprinted stamps of their own. They differ from unmanned Flag stations in that they were manned, sometimes intermittently. Tirau is about 10km north of Putaruru.
The seller on Trademe was a dealer but hadn't noted it as other than PUTARURU - not a particularly scarce station. A couple of bidders, however, did note the TIRAU handstamp and on 30/11/2021 it made NZ$2,520, a new record price for one of these stamps, as far as I know. It also bore a non-typical cancellation.

Re: Discussion on the New Zealand Railway Charges stamps
The companion publication to the above, on New Zealand's Railway Newspaper stamps of 1890-1928, has also had an update as Version 9 (Specimen overprints, Marton double O/P, Hillgrove & Lower Hutt pmks, Westport O/P, Freight stamps survey)

Re: Discussion on the New Zealand Railway Charges stamps
As a seller of these in the past (I still have more somewhere) I am interested to know relative scarcity and any pricing structure for mint examples.
I see Elsmore quotes mint x4 but this is all a bit vague.
Surely some values are seen more often than others in mint condition, although it seems from my initial research very few seem to crop up of any value.

Secondly the NZR Railway charges stamps.
Stations include Clyde, Central BO Christchurch, Christchurch (CH*CH), Greymouth, Timaru and a couple that someone more familiar with the place names may be able to help with.

I keep my eyes out for these and recently I picked up a small collection with this one in amongst the items.
It is in good condition compared to many I've seen.

What a SUPERB overview of these issues. Essential reading.

Love to see it loaded here for posterity as sadly the original sites often do not last forever. But PDF's cannot be loaded here AFAIK?

I resized it to suit what you are able to display here. A bit of fiddling can improve it further.
This is just playing with the image you uploaded.

Yes it works somewhat as I showed, however .. the PDF file will give crystal clear lettering however.

Re: Discussion on the New Zealand Railway Charges stamps
What a superb job Darren!
I am sure Adam will be pleased to see it shared here forever, and is on his site too of course -
http://www.78rpm.net.nz/couriers/NZR/New%20Zealand%20Railway%20Charges%20stamps%20ebook.pdf
I think there were a few later pages with the vertical issues, and known perfins, a summary of prices of these that was quite illuminating. Great work.
Glen

Re: Discussion on the New Zealand Railway Charges stamps
I would point out that this is the Railway Charges thread and my monograph reproduced above is the one on the Railway Newspaper stamps
Also I’m about to drop version 17 of the Charges one so if you could wait until then before putting its pages here.
