Love them, or hate them, the inkjet spray cancels are here to stay.

WANTED your legible, Australia Post, inkjet slogan cancels on cover. These cancels are an unloved area of philately that requires study and I would like your help to do this. Some of these slogan cancels have pictorial elements, some don't, as you will see below.

Some of you will receive almost none of these on your mail, others many. Some of you may even work at (or have access to) companies that receive a lot of this type of mail. At present 99.99% of these covers end up in landfill or are shredded I am sure. I would prefer they were put to better use.

I had thought about starting a thread where images of these covers could be posted, different types etc. - but I doubt there would be much interest and even if there were, the thread would soon become very cumbersome and cluttered with duplication. Quite frankly it would be boring to look at with the 'same' images posted over and over. To make this research workable, covers are needed in large quantities.

I will happily reimburse the cost of any reasonable postage that you incur in sending me any of these covers if that is a hurdle. Particularly if you bundle them up and send them as lots. (Reimbursement would be in $ not stamps as I simply don't have access to a wide variety of items.) If you'd rather, use up any old stamps you have lying around instead.

Rest assured, the covers you send me will not end up on eBay. The object here is research. I will of course periodically share on the 'board what I find.

I wish you well with your endeavours! At least you receive cancelled mail in Ozland, unlike in NZ!

Re the OCR & FSMs mentioned in the above post's link: you may be interested in these in the 1991 (2nd edition) of Postal Mechanisation in Australia - A Brief History by Ken Sparks. It is a 66 page stapled A4 sized book and describes the start of the use of these machines - so only 30 year's worth of mail to plough through!!

Received this cover today. Northgate have stopped using the Supporting Indigenous Communities slogan.

The earliest date for the Northgate SIC slogan I have seen is May 5th.

NMC: seen 28.04.20 to 19.04.21 and resumed by 24.05.21 (Supporting indigenous communities seen 04.05.21-13.05.21)
PMC: seen 27.05.20 (there is probably an earlier date) to 20.11.20
SWLF: seen 28.04.20 to 10.11.20

Spread the Merry
DLC seen 25.11.20
NMC - not seen

NMC kept running the Stay safe slogan and never switched to Spread the Merry or Supporting Australians. It seems after running the Supporting indigenous communities slogan for a while they have again switched back to Stay safe.

Briggia - to be transparent, I have had a WANTED thread for pandemic-related slogans since October of last year: https://www.stampboards.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=92768 and hence have recorded the dates that I posted above. I've been watching various threads on Stampboards and other sources to gather information for earliest and latest dates of the pandemic-related slogans.

I wanted to help your request by sharing the date information here instead of posting on my own thread, and Chris's post was directed to me to update the information that I shared. Hence I guess I 'pounced' as you say. Not malicious.

As a peace offering - I've just seen your other thread about inkjet slogans related to COVID, I'll post there and send you an email as I think I can help since I've been cataloguing and collecting all kinds of COVID material since the beginning of the pandemic.

Are you after "all" inkjet cancels, such as "Secure your dog", or "Stay Alert! There's a life riding on it" or just the more recent ones? I have about 10 with various cancels on going back to 2019, but don't want to waste time and space if they aren't what you are after.

Sorry, no. It's the original design that they used to create the black inkjet.
I found it on the website as the small logo it shows but can link to a large format image.

A new postmark in Perth. "Supporting connection". Also the part of the postmark that indicates where it was postmarked and when is different. The two lines are much closer together.

He sent me an email a long time ago. I hadn't seen this thread and he had to explain what he wanted. I sent him some on Dec. 27. He didn't offer to pay postage and he didn't acknowledge receiving them or answer my question as to whether they were any good, and if I should save any more. (?)

During May June 2022 the commonest slogan cancellation, in my mail, was the “Supporting Indigenous Communities” Slogan.

As the Sir Doug Nicholls stamp was being issued on the 5th July 2022 I tried to coordinate the slogan with the First Day of issue.

I bought 20 stamps and posted them around Brisbane. All were postmarked the 5th July at the Northgate Mail Centre timed about 8pm to 10pm. In retrospect I think they could all have been posted as one bundle at the GPO at about 10am.

This would have saved me being evicted from a Coffee shop for taking too long due to stamping the envelopes. It was also the second lowest maximum temperature ever recorded in Brisbane.

As the slogan shows the time it is postmarked, in the future, could there be competition for the earliest postmarked FDC?

Is there an easier way to get slogan "spray" cancels?

Last year, the Spread the Merry postmarks from Perth (both PMC 457 and PMC 458) were clear. In fact I was proud that the Perth cancellations were clearer in general than the Eastern States cancellations. Not so this year. The first few I received were clear but mostly they look like this.
