Joined the board today and voted for my favorite Christmas stamps. I collect mostly world animals and environmental topics, but also stamps that catch my interests, which are varied. I collect for fun and enjoy when a stamp makes me smile. Like this mini-sheet from Turkey. It makes me wonder how you decide whose letter gets the cat's rear end - not even the fluffy tail, just the rear end!

I am a Penpaller and Stamp User. I send therefore I receive. I muse on letters and stamps at correspondencefan.blogspot.co.uk. I have a forum, A World of Snail Mail. I need to collect "Welt der Briefe" stamps from Deutsche Post. I may need help to postally use RM postage stamps - does anyone want to get into letter writing?

This book is quite easy to find, try one of the philatelic literature dealers such as Leonard H. Hartmann. The book is well worth the price.

Welcome to Stampboards ecocat, the cat is gorgeous and I agree with your comment, someone just didn't figure it out OR was kind of funny that day...

I love cats and feel very concerned with ecology, I hope you will share some of your stamps in the threads :)

Thinking of it, ecocat, here is the cats thread :

I didn't find any ecology or environment thread, maybe someone could help to find some.

Thanks for the welcome. I saw the cat stamps thread and it's a popular theme. For "ecology" I collect stamps relating to the environment: conservation, Arbor day, world environment day ... things of that nature. I'll post something from my collection if I can find a suitable thread (or maybe be brave and start a new thread).

Hello ecocat. After you've been on board a bit longer, and found your way around Stampboards with a post here and there, it would be a great idea to have an ecology/environment theme thread :D

Here's a nice topical set from the Maldives that would fit nicely in such a thread. :D

BigSaint adds posts from time to time that would fit into such a thread. For example, very recently he added this post in the Happy Day thread:

New Zealand Stamp Identifying

Post by jiml542 »

How do you identify New Zealand stamp Scott # 3 from Scott #15. The only difference I can find is #3 was printed in Londin and #15 was printed in Auckland, New Zealand. How can you distinguish where the stamp was printed?

Ok as per my Avatar... David from the North West of the UK. I accidently found the site through research and figured I would join as experience says if I need help or advice who better to ask than a community passionate and dedicated to the same interest and hobby as me?!

I got into stamp collecting or should I say philately by accident really, owing to my grandparents giving me stamps including the one I will add later within my profile!

I learned to specialise (although reading of your posts here, I am very much a beginner) and have a collection of all UK Christmas Presentation Packs from 1966 to present day and I also collect Presentation Packs to do with UK Royalty from The Investiture of the Prince of Wales in 1969 again to present day with some gaps hence why I am here!

Thanks for having me!

Welcome NWDave to the company of fellow members on Stampboards.

Your choice of the membership alias "NWDave" made me think of the famous NorthWest Passage. Here's a view from an unfamiliar viewpoint that helps us appreciate the significance of that remarkable searoute.

Roald Amundsen is remembered as the pioneer navigator of the NorthWest Passage (1903-1906), and for later polar explorations, eventually disappearing on one of those expeditions:

Hi, I'm Dave from Arizona in the States. I actually signed up for this board a while ago, but got distracted for a lot of personal reasons and became inactive, although I did occasionally read posts. I am now actively collecting again and have started a good New Zealand collection which is one of the reasons why this board is of keen interest now. Cheers and Happy Holidays to the folks here.

Hi all,
my area of interest is Graf Zeppelin and Hindenburg stamps and postcards, as well as general German Empire etc. I have a couple of years experience collecting, by no means do I pretend to know a great deal though. aside from collecting the above I'm also a auctioneer, colonial and military historian and musician. I look forward to learning from the more experienced collectors and hopefully contributing, where I can, as well.

Cheers.

Hello all

I've been collecting on and off for over 40 years, since I was a kid. These days mostly UK stamps, FDCs, and Canadian stamps. I used to get everything, but I've become more selective over time. Looking at the new 2023 UK schedule, I'm going to get even more selective.

I've become more interested in Machins of late. My Machin collection is in relatively good shape until 2005 or so, but there's some big gaps now I'm trying to fill, now that the kids are a bit older, and I'm semi-retired.

Nice stamp Roger, although it proves an old adage of mine that the longer you look at a stamp, the more you will see the odd fault or two, in this case two shorter perfs. - at top, one over the "A" of "GRAF," the other above the "N" of "ZEPPELIN."

Isn't stamp collecting wonderful!

I'm known online as pacneil, been on the internet since 1990. Been collecting stamps since I was 10 in 1962. Paused for a bit when I entered High School. I bought the Ukraine Snake Island Stamps and covers and I was off again. I've since started specializing in Ukraine, starting in the 19th Century with Zemstvo stamps. Lately been collecting locals from 1991 independence including covers. I also collect U.S. also starting 19th Century. I spend far too much time and money on stamp collecting. Just ask my wife!

Wikipedia wrote: Mining in Cornwall and Devon, in the southwest of England, began in the early Bronze Age, around 2150 BC. Tin, and later copper, were the most commonly extracted metals. Some tin mining continued long after the mining of other metals had become unprofitable, but ended in the late 20th century. In 2021, it was announced that a new mine was extracting battery-grade lithium carbonate, more than 20 years after the closure of the last South Crofty tin mine in Cornwall in 1998.
