Talking about officials, can someone look for this 500F from Togo for a catalog number / value?

Both Colnect and stampworld only show values up to 300F. My 1994 YT catalog does not show any officials.

Thanks for the information. My first thought was, 8?????

Because there are already 8 shown in Colnect (and stampworld)
Togo official stamps Colnect
Togo official stamps Colnect
The 300 Fr does have an YT number of 7
Togo official 10F stamp YT unlisted
Togo official 10F stamp YT unlisted
But apparently this one is unlisted in YT.

Very strange.

Any possibility to show a scan or write down to know the catalog values? Or are the values blank?

Here is a screenshot of the pertinent data from the 2008 Y&T catalogue. Interesting that the 10f is not shown. Was it issued later? Cat. prices would be in Euros.

I have received a printscreen from Scott catalog, only values mint are shown too, but value for mint or used for the 10F apparently. All are listed as issued 1991?, except 50FR and 300FR as 1991 without question mark.

Guinea stamps 1991 - 2000
Guinea stamps 1991 - 2000
Another interesting find for various reasons

The Pope stamp is according to a comment in colnect has the following comment:
Commercial covers exist with some values from this series, most made years after the series was issued. All are basically sent to philatelic sources (namely in the Netherlands) in obvious attempts to legitimize the issues. Diverse usage of this issue does not exist.
a pity this one does not have an address

The space stamp is from this souvenir sheet (sorry for the bad quality)
2000 Guinea International-Space-Station
2000 Guinea International-Space-Station
it seems unlisted by Michel and SG. And I am the only one that have it, at least the stamp.

I will definately keep this one on paper.

Even though I am a worldwide collector, there are a few topics I don't like or have no or little interest in them.

One of them is royalty. Not the anniversaries like we Australia was issuing a stamp to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's birthday. But especially the Princess Diana or lately the marriages of William or Harry I really dislike.

Off course I will keep this one though, it is also an issue that was mostly meant for the royalty / Diana collectors with little postage use I think.

The Sierra Leone butterflies (and the similar Uganda issues) were my main collecting area until I moved on to the Fiji overprints.

Some of the stamps which have Sierra Leone in blue are like hen's teeth in mint, despite being relatively plentiful used. There are some wierd perforation varieties on some of the stamps, but those tend to be more available mint and are scarce (or non-existent) used. Earlier issues had the country name printed in Black.

Adding this key value to my collection from Trinidad & Tobago.

Apparently there are 5 versions:
1) issued in 1983 undated SG651A
2) imprint date 1985 SG 701
Stanley Gibbons mentions that there are several imprint dates, but does not separately list each one
I find that a bit weird to be honnest, and even dissappointing. Michel, YT and Scott does list them all seperately.

3) imprint date 1987
4) imprint date 1988

5) I am the only one that have the imprint date with 1989 in Colnect. I am missing all the other versions though :D
Image
It became common for some small countries to produce excessive re-issues with different imprint dates for no other reason than to fleece collectors.

Gibbons opted not to itemise the different dates to discourage the practice.

It's unfortunate that some justifiable date variety issues are thereby ignored the Fiji buildings series being a case in point.
Gibbons would also have had to source at least some, and price them in their catalogues. Knowing how difficult they find it to get accurate information to compile catalogues (apart from the Machin specialism), I can understand this.

The extra effort involved (and cost) would almost certainly not lead to increased revenue from stamp sales, and precious little from catalogue sales.

Missing some overprints and some from the issued set with the updated portrait.

in stampworld the overprinted 15c on 45c (4th row) has a massive CV of 80.00 that must be a mistake, as all the other overprinted issues have low values.

finished sorting out the box... per country or group of countries. Or by continent. And now they are in seperate enveolopes and I can start to think which ones will stay on paper, which ones not, how many I will add to my swaplist in colnect and also making a few kiloware packages of 100/200 grammes.

some 'results' from the box... as I am a controller (expense and financial) at my work, I like to keep track of what I do. My wife often things 'what the hell?'

I have added a total of 1521 stamps to my collection, with a stampworld catalog value of €2548, excluding the letters that I will keep intact.

so good value for money. And What will end up on my swaplist will probably be much more.

Break down
Africa 1202 items 79%
Asia 179 items 12%
Europe 3 items 0%
America 118 items 8%
Oceania 19 items 1%

Top 5 countries:
1) Mali 106 items
2) Swaziland 89 items
3) Senegal 88 items
4) Chad, Tanzania and Sierra Leone 68 items

I still cannot believe it I had this for only 48 euro.

Yesterday a lot of independant Africa with 500g was sold for a massive £156

As others have said, it’s a great acquisition.

You may find that some of these are not listed or not priced in main catalogues. If you don’t have Stamps of the World or similar do ask here, on a new thread.

The reason I say this is that I had some African stamps, I think from the 90s, which Gibbons can’t price until they get some idea of supply and they were working with the specialist society to try to get more facts. (I can’t remember the country, possibly Burundi.)

Just as we can’t be expert at everything neither can catalogue editors and what you have there may generate new entries.

The specialist societies are happy to get information even if you are not a member, and contact is easier now than it was 30 years ago.

Definitely keep the whole covers, and pieces, because they are helpful in dating. Even if the postmark is unclear, the date for an unknown stamp may be narrowed down by the presence of a known one.

Can’t wait to see the stamps in detail!
hi and thanks for the kind words / information. If I could be of help for the specialist societies, I'd be happy to do that. There seems to be quite a few of these societies? so not sure how or where to begin
I have written (last week) to three UK societies drawing their attention to this thread - the East Africa and West Africa Study Circles, and the France & Colonies PS. I don't know to what extent their respective websites are up to date, so whether the contact details are accurate.

I haven't had any responses yet.

I also wrote to Chad Snee, one time member here, who works for Amos/Scott. He has passed my email on to the current "Scott catalog new-issues editor Marty Frankevicz for his consideration."

I hope one or more of these will visit and take part indicating how much of what you have bought is evidence previously not available.

My aim is show all the items per country, like I did with the Chad issues in my previous post. Mali will be a lot of pictures. (except Asia / South Africa or some other countries)

Now that I have finalized 'investigating' the box, I will also send an e-mail with some scanned examples to the SG e-mail you have provided somewhere in this thread. And also with a link to this thread and see if there is any interest from their side.

Very impressive!

I should one day get all the stamps and covers I got from my aunt who were then a secretary in a university in the 1990s: blocks of stamps on envelopes to cover the rates for papers and journals. Mostly African countries, and also South East Asia, Pakistan castle officials.

Here is the stamp from a cover I found in apenny box at the local bourse recently: cancel in Northern Burkina with a current stamp on a private local museum on burkinese cultural artefacts in Manéga. I spent two hours yesterday reading articles on the museum owner, his actions and how it connects to NGO ATD-Quart-Monde fighting poverty.

I wish you to enjoy this treasure for many weeks to come.

Very nice cancel on that one! It comes from a set of 4. The museum building itself looks quite special.

stamps from former French colonies are often very nice and interesting when it comes to local themes. It are amongst my favorite countries to collect.

Not from the box, but I think it belongs here too, also from Ebay, and I bought it for about half the price of the big box

Includes some very recent Sierra Leone stamps from 2018 (Lion and owl). Also the Ferrari F1 with one of the greatest and most spectacular F1 drivers ever Gilles Villeneuve is a great addition as a F1 enthusiast.

Hong Kong 1987/91 QEII definitive series has five different imprinted years as well, probably not to "fleece collectors"...
