Hello Hassan = egy_philately :D

I hope you will add posts for us on Stampboards, and explain what is significant about the items you show us.

For example, in an appropriate thread it would be good to learn about the role, the significance, and the context, in which interpostal seals were used in Egypt:

Hello Kyle = kmagilavy in Akron, Ohio, USA.

NOW is the perfect time to start. :D

Go to your local Post Office, ask to see what stamps they have currently on sale, and buy yourself some of the ones you like best. Ask for them to be put in an envelope to protect them as you take them home. And ask whether they have any USPS information about new issues.

Before you get home, visit your local library. Ask what books, magazines and catalog[ue]s they have for stamp collectors. Browse what's there, borrow one or two items to study more closely at home...

When you get home, check out some online sites promoting stamp collecting, such as

Linn's Stamp News
A weekly newspaper just for stamp collectors

Mystic Stamps
They offer a free U.S. Stamp Catalog

DON'T rush to buy a printed album! Start slowly. Buy a modest stockbook — a book with see-through strips across each page, where you can temporarily store your stamps, rearrange them at will, and accumulate them while you get ideas about which types of stamps interest you most.

Check online to see whether there are any stamp clubs in your area. If there are, plan to attend a meeting or two as a visitor. They are usually very friendly groups. Tell them you're just starting out, and you will be surprised how helpful and encouraging they will be. Making stamp collecting a social experience, rather than a private or secretive hobby, is the best way to enjoy it (shared enthusiasm is great) and is also the best way to learn a lot and benefit from the experience and knowledge of others. They will be delighted to share that with you...

Hi everyone,

John here, joining from Sweden. I grew up around stamps and stamp collections (it kind of runs in the family). Up until now my personal focus has been collecting vinyl records. Trying to learn a bit more about stamps to catch up on the basics and maybe dive deeper into the 'rabbit hole'. I have to start somewhere..

Also interested in art/paintings and music among other things. Now and then I see stamps on the labels of vinyl records - which probably will be related to the first post I'll make on the forum.

Cheers!

I am joining from Virginia in the U.S., just a few miles outside Washington DC. I have collected US and German stamps for several years, and also have a small Great Britain collection. I recently read an article in Scott Stamp monthly about collecting Machins and was fascinated by all the detail. I was following some recommended links from the article for further information. That ultimately led me to this site and I started reading through some of the threads, found some great information, and decided to sign up.

Thank you all for maintaining this site. I can see that it will be very interesting to read and follow.

Hi, I am based in the UK. I have dabbled in and around the stamp trade for over 40 years, I even worked for a few years for one of the largest wholesalers in the UK for a few years.

Now approaching retirement I am using my time making packets of stamps at what I think are very good prices for some UK wholesalers to sell more economically to collectors.

I look forward to hear from some of you and maybe do some deals.

Thanks, Gary

Hello Everyone

My name is Bernette and I live on The Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. I have collected stamps for decades and have decided to try to put them in some order.

I thought the simplest way was to gather them into years and countries. Yes, I am finding that challenging.

I look forward to reading more about what other people's interests are and how they go about sorting the little beauties.

I am working my way through the rules and how to use this site. Please forgive me as I learn, I am not a computer genius.

Cheers to All

Hi everyone.
I was born in New Zealand, brought up in England and had a year as a student in Germany … all a long time ago, I’m afraid. Started collecting stamps when I was young, but wine, women, song and children intervened. Over lockdown the stamp collecting bug was rekindled.
My collecting interests are Great Britain, Germany, New Zealand and Scandinavia (postally used). I’m looking forward to joining in and have a lot to learn. :)

I am norwegian - retired, living in the country side, my interests are cross country skiing/ hiking, drawing, philosophy/ history, nature.

When it comes to stamps I collected norwegian stamps until around 1985. That album is not complete. And I may fill some of the holes.

Recently my interest for postage stamps has returned. I focus now on classic stamps. Having travelled quite a lot in southern europe, my main countries of interest are at the moment France, Spain, Italy, Greece and Turkey. Pre 1950/60/70. Any country´s classic stamps are of interest, though.

I am interested in cover swapping/ stamp buddies.

Greetings to all My Fellow Stamp Collectors

I have collected Postage Stamps since 1961. My late Dad got me started with World-Wide, but over the years I have narrowed my collecting interest to the following countries: Austria, Canada, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Russia, The United States of America, and the United Nations.

My younger brother collects World Wide so any stamp that I obtain is sent to him for his collection. I am a disabled US Military Veteran, but I do not let that stop my from my hobbies. I also collect coins and Metal Detect.

I live in a History rich area in Leesburg, Virginia and have found many US Civil War relics and coins. I am on several different web sites so hope that I will be able to discuss some stamp issues. I am married to my wonderful wife, Judy for the past 44 years.

We have two sons, One is still available if any lady is interested! LOL I am retired from the US Government after 36 years. I am on line very often but Saturdays are normally my day to go metal detecting. Feel free to text me with questions, thoughts, ideas, etc.

I wish you all a fantastic day! ;-)

Hello and thank you for the welcome.
I am going to apologise first for being nearly social media and thread illiterate.
I appreciate all and any help in improving my skills in this area.

Hi I am new to posting on billboards. So please excuses any errors I do on the post for a short time, till I get used to doing the right thing. That being said, I have been collecting world postage stamps for a few years now. Just for a hobby. Recently I have been paying more attention to stamp collecting. I live in Australia and I hope that I can share some of my knowledge like you share yours.
Kind Regards

Hello Ciscomic.

Please forgive me for being confused by your introductory post. You say "I live in Australia",
but your profile says you are located in Kaluga, Russia.

Where in the world are you right now?
How can we know that your post is not an AI-generated fake??

Hello Fellow Enthusiasts

Apologies first and foremost , as I have made postings without first introducing myself .
I am Ray , originally from the Crusader ( Rugby Union ) capital of Christchurch . Crossed the Tasman and I have resided the last 20 years in sunny Brisvegas .
Like many before me started as a child collector but always retained the interest during my adult years and now specializing more so in my mature years .
My major focus is NZ material of which I am an active buyer and seller of Chalons,FSF's, pre 1935 MUH , flaws , and Arms and Postal Fiscals but I also have some nice Commonwealth collections which I like trading in.

Keep up the good work
Regards Ray

Welcome Ray = rdjar14 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

Some of your references (such as "Brisvegas") require some "local knowledge" to be understood, and all but the most universally familiar acronyms (such as "FSF") should be explained on first usage. Remember that this is an international forum, and the first language of many members is not English. Clear and thoughtful explanations will better serve and respect the membership.

Classic New Zealand philatelic items are shown and discussed in many Stampboards posts. Recently, the thread by RedKiwi on New Zealand's "First Sidefaces" was honoured as Thread of the Month:
