Your self-introduction is in perfect French, a model of excellent prose writing. May I comment that AMark has referred to the Stampboards policy that English is the official language for posts in this chatboard, so he has kindly added an English translation of your self-introduction.

However, I would like to reassure you that this does not mean that French cannot be used in your posts. A good compromise is for French text to be routinely accompanied (preferably preceded) by an English version within the same post, while recognising that the English translation might not do full justice to the original French (especially if it is a machine-generated translation, such as Google Translate produces).

As an example, I recently added a post about the Pacific Community/Communouté du Pacifique in the thread discussing Stamps and Currency of the French Pacific region. Almost all of that post is in English, but a key portion defining the role and development objectives of the organisation is also appropriately presented in the official French version.
Pacific Community

As another example, the Stamps and Languages thread often has posts the include French. For instance, a post about the French Canadian artist Paul Lemieux tackles the challenge of finding a suitable English translation of a reflection in French by the artist:
Ce qui me hante le plus

.
/RogerE 🦉

Footnote: Of course, the same principles apply not only to French but to use of any other language on Stampboards. The official language for posts in this chatboard is English, but that does not preclude inclusion of parallel text in any other language, especially when the original statement was in that other language and translation into English might lose some of the nuances and precision of the original statement.

Welcome Mitch in Sydney suburb Cremorne, NSW, Australia

The more you browse, the more you will discover to enjoy, the very best way to learn. Who knows what you will come across next‽ Here is an example of something little known even to collectors of modern Australian stamps:

Yes Mitch, the first day covers of most modern Australian stamps are relatively common and inexpensive, and that is especially true for issues from the 1980s. What is different about the Pastoral Era pack I showed is that it consists of Collector Cards, a relatively uncommon collecting format, not to be confused with Post Office packs of the stamp set, or maximum cards. Even the relatively unusual versions are likely to be modestly priced, as a visit to eBay will confirm.

A detailed collection of this theme might enhance these two items with the inclusion of more unusual items such as the Collector Card pack, examples of the single stamps used on commercial covers, a positional multiple from a mint sheet, and other relevant items...

Stamp Research

Post by charlotte+ »

Hi I have been left at least 100 stamps by my father (born in 1919) a lot of the stamps are pre-decimal. I am currently trying to find out if any are valuable. It's all been a bit daunting as it's so hard to find correct information on the general Web. I am also learning things along the way I didn't know that all stamps have watermarks and I didn't know they could be incorrect adding value to the stamp.

Hello everyone, I just joined yesterday so I am new to this forum. My name is Bradley Brideau (but my co-workers call me the bobcat at work). I am 53 years old and I'm excited to be here. I have so far read a several dozen of your threads and posts and love what I am reading - I am learning so much more on here about stamps and collecting than I ever would on any of the other social media sites and extremely impressed with the knowledge and insight other collectors have on this chat board.

I am currently a member of APS and NDSCS and have been collecting since I was 12 but took a very long hiatus from stamp collecting and now that I am older I am trying to get back into collecting again. I would like to be a member of more stamp collecting clubs and societies soon. I collect just about anything and everything postage stamp related but I mostly love souvenir sheets, revenues/stamped documents, covers/FDC's, pre-cancels, PNC's /Line pairs, plate blocks, transportation/flora and fauna/Anime and cartoon topicals, and worldwide sets from the 1950/s to present. I'm at a beginner level in learning again so I will do my best in researching what I have before I post.

Anyway, I have a lot of material I am going through so I may need help with understanding it but I look forward to meeting and talking to you all here about it.

Warm Regards,

Bradley W. Brideau (aka the Bobcat)

hi everyone, my name is Ross and I am new to stamp collecting.

Indeed, I have been thrown into the deep end because I am about to inherit my late uncle's stamp collection and I am joining Stampboards to seek guidance on how to initially store and later sell his collection.

Much of his collection is stored in large safes, and I will need to move these safes and the collection to a location closer to home (unfortunately I have no space at my home to keep the safes).

So my question is: is it OK to store these safes (and the stamp collection within) in a standard storage unit such as Kennards? Or do I need a special climate-controlled storage unit? Are their stamp auction houses that offer storage for stamps?

Look forward to hearing from fellow members and joining in the discussions

Hi! Newbie stamp enthusiast here!

Before inheriting my grandfather's stamp collection I knew NOTHING about stamps. When my father asked if I wanted my grandad's stamp collection I thought, "Sure. It's another way to hold on to his memory." Then I began re-archiving his collection and that's how I began learning about the world of stamps.

Great to make everyone's aquaintance! :D

Welcome to twinvirgos and rosscostamps and if you are looking for guidance on inherited collections, the good news is that we have a thread for exactly that purpose.

Take a look at 'How much is Grandpa's old inherited stamp collection worth?' and when you ar ready, try uploading some pictures of what you have and let the experts see if there's anything of value.

Best of luck :!:

Welcome aboard, Ross,

The biggest problem with storage of stamps is humidity. Make sure humidity exposure is controlled wherever you store the stamps, assuming the damage is not already done

I'm not from Australia, but we have many knowledgeable and helpful members who can give you good advice. The thread recommended by JonEboy is a good starting point.

Hi everyone
Just a mention that being a new member can be daunting. I don't feel qualified to make comments on any topics, I love the history and art that go into producing stamps, the production of many aspects of manufacturing these little beauties is a mystery to me. I find it difficult to navigate around the site, I have to make time to learn how to find what I'm looking for.
So I guess what I'm saying to other newbies, hang in there. :D

No worries, you'll figure it out along the way. Welcome aboard! Don't feel scared to post, as I'm sure we can learn or share ideas from you too.

Gday from Gladstone South Australia.
I am a collector of all things postal from my home town of Gladstone South Australia.
Thanks to fellow collector Territorian I have a collection of interesting stamps, Earliest recorded date of squared circle cancel SC1 28 June 1883 and a fine example of F1-1 cancel rated 4R ( 4 or 5 copies known).
I also have many early postcards and envelopes from Gladstone as well.

Hello All

I’m Alex living in the southeast of the UK but initially born in Texas, USA. I’ve been lurking on this forum for a while recently looking at threads for sourcing and storing stamps and felt joining was long overdue!

I initially started collecting as a child when I saw a neighbour’s child sorting, soaking and hinging stamps in his Stanley Gibbons Strand stamp album (the one that came in the yellow corrugated plastic box that resembled a small briefcase). I promptly got my own for a Christmas or birthday (can’t remember exactly). The hobby took a backseat in my teenage years.

I rediscovered the hobby when clearing out my childhood bedroom almost a year back now and finding my childhood SG Strand stamp album but also stamps and FDCs from two of my late grandparents.
I’m currently trying to build a concise GB collection and US airmails widening to the US generally along with potentially other countries and also airmail related postal history.

Alex

Hello,

Has anyone seen France #18 in a double set like this before?

I have been searching my whole life to see if there is another one out there like this?
Napoleon III (1854) Se-Tenant

https://www.ebay.com/itm/387056000896?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid ... media=COPY

I've been collecting for 170 yeaars (including my grandpa's collection) and recently came across this N3 and wonder how much its worth.

Given its a two set, I would say that it compares to the penny black in value because of its rarity and importance.

Other than that, I look forward to growing my collection and having fun watching history unfold through philately.

Let's collect!

I mostly sort by country, themes, and lately have been interested in Russian Civil War 1923 stamps, the Light Green King Haakon from Norway, and early US president stamps, especially the insane prices on the Washington Red 2 cent.

Excited to get more collections going in the LAtin America area as I have some really old Colombia pieces and Mexico and ecuador and such, and believe there needs to be more coverage on these developing country's stamps.
I look forward to chatting.

Im single and spend most of my time writing books and collecting.

Chat soon!

In keeping with today's Happy Day theme, and the upcoming Paris Olympics, here are two pleasant reminders of the 1956 Olympics in Australia's Melbourne, 1s printed by Harrisons and 2s printed by Courvoisier (the 2s clearly the superior printing):

hello my name is Peter. USMC retired here in the Philippines. My grandfather left me his stamp collection and I would like to sell the stamps being that none of us are into stamp collecting.

I hope as a member here I can obtain advice and help on obtaining the best possible price for the stamps.

I shall post on a new thread the collection.

Thank you for having me.
