Well the obvious typo aside, Ashes the fail rate still stays at 42 years for England at Manchester -

You might want to edit that and put the words in the right order; I've no idea what point you are making.

'the fail rate still stays at 42 years for England at Manchester'

For any non English speakers or comprehenders, this means England have FAILED to win for 42 years at Manchester in Tests.

'Failed' = 'flopped' or 'failed to win' or 'were whupped' - take your pick. All sad FACTS with the SAME meaning.

Not winning a World Cup Soccer title for 57 is worse of course, always choking at key matches, but the same sort of record.

Hope that clears up both sorry records for you.

It was the words Ashes the fail rate, which you highlighted, which didn't seem to make grammatical sense, but I'm glad you've got that set in your own mind.

With Kreepy KRAWLEY managing to fluke 189 and keep the Clowns’ hopes alive, what does it mean for the match?

Let’s have a look at the forecast for the coming days:

I’m sure that’s BJ Thomas emanating from the English dressing room ‘Raindrops keep fallin’ on my head …’

Bad luck old bean, Ashes retained

Australia isn’t saved by the weather.

They’re winning the series 2-1, against the Clowns of Cricket.

Do keep up.

Hey don't blame AUSTRALIA for the fact England has the worst weather on the planet outside of Greenland. Of COURSE it will rain during each Test. Get used to that reality.

Perhaps petition your adulterous new King Charles da Thurd, to see if he can use his cool alleged 'Divine Powers' to stop it raining all Summer. Thus making British day-to-day life a permanent misery, hence the whining national attitude there - as you are demonstrating perfectly. :D

But do NOT blame us for your crap weather.

Things are always happy and Sunny here, hence our cheery dispositions. 8-)

If YOUR cruddy weather means a draw - more fool England for letting us get to 2-1 UP.

Newsflash: the weather isn't the same all over the world. The UK has a different climate to Australia. Get over it

PLEASE don't remind me we are stuck with him.

However, raining for 2 days the ozzies would be totally delighted about, as we retain The Ashes then, no matter what occurs in Test 5!

Poor cricket by Pommies in the first 2 tests, would be entirely the cause of that happy result.

Stop being so childish. Even 'edge tracking' showed it was the very faintest of edges.

The player review system is there for good reason. Both sides can and do use it - every innings. Umpires are not always correct. England would not have got to even 250 had they not player reviewed several umpire 'OUT' calls last innings. They got lucky.

Ex 'Captain' Joe Root and FOUR other slip fielders just watched a Steve Smith ball hit the ground, and still reviewed it, claiming it was a 'catch' - and lost of course. Seeing you raise 'cheating'. That is half the England team very clearly cheating.

I think the gloves are so thick these days they don't always feel a nick: as for striking the ball firmly, it's instinct and timing.

The England players didn’t celebrate because it wasn’t a catch. It was an umpire review.
And why use the quotes for Joe Root being captain? Who’s being childish now?

In my view of the edited highlights I believe the umpires (off camera) didn't know whether he caught it, and he said "I think it's out", but indicated that the umpires should check.

If he had appealed and the umpires had given NOT OUT, it would have been a fielding side review, which it was not. As you say, it was an umpire review.

Alas the Clowns of Cricket

Sadly, nothing for RM to commemorate here.

Despite the best efforts of BLANDERSON the human sleeping pill, bumbling BAIRSTOW the BUFFOON, Kreepy KRAWLEY, ROOTed, sad STOKES etc.

The Urn retained by the greatest test side on the planet.

India, earlier in the summer, and now England.

Reflecting a wider malaise facing English sport in general: Australia is better than England.

Better beaches

Better lifestyle

Better weather

Better cricketers

Better whingers though, the hapless English certainly are.

Australia WINNING the series 2-1 as we head to the Oval …

Given the apparent lack of interest from Royal Mail, I have taken the liberty of designing a series of commemorative cinderellas.

I'm thinking a special mailing to some of our more disappointed Stampboarders north of the equator, those who have whinged on this thread for example, perhaps on a unique hand-made cacheted cover?

A limited edition, cherished memento of losing the Ashes ... yet again :D

(Norvic, yours is already in the mail.)

Just let me know if anyone else would like one as well.

The Key to the set.

You have my Copyright permission to use this fine image of Senior Citizen Anderson on his zimmer frame .. whose hours of easy to hit 17 overs for no wicket helped secure the Ashes after the dopey non declaration.

The talk is the Brits will drop him for the last test so this effort was his Swansong.

Not true. I have only sent one form with stamps stuck on, and it took me about 10 minutes, and that was months ago.

As a philatelic writer it was incumbent on me to test the system to see how it works.

Cool.

I’m also sending a set to Windsor Castle - you know, for posterity in the Royal Collection.

Hopefully they will be cherished there as well.

I thought a personal letter to His Majesty could encourage Royal Mail into issuing them formally.

Something like:

Dear Charles,

Trust all is well with Hazza and Megs, Camilla and extended family.

I write to you out of great concern for the lack of postage stamps commemorating the recent Ashes series.

What ails English sport?

Perhaps you could encourage Royal Mail to issue these designs, instead of the wacky woke dribble of late, or threaten to withdraw the Royal warrant?

Respectfully,

Rigs

.
Norvic, please help me with any improvements you can suggest for this letter so we can get English sport back on track.

Things are in crisis mode at the moment.

rigs - I think you really should also recommend to Charles da Thurd that Baz Ball Boofhead Ben get a Knighthood -- everyone else does over there, and this will be Stokes last Ashes, and his chance might vanish otherwise.

And yes a special stamp for him is fully deserved. To be FAIR, given his Captaincy decisions - it really would have to be Second Class of course - this is a trial design -

Captureff.JPG

His superbly dumb decision not to declare, 150 runs earlier than he did, clearly LOST The Ashes for sure, but of course 'he knows more about tactics' than all of us! A weekend of very heavy rain coming, was evident to everyone in England - the UK government Weather Bureau confirmed it formal days out - except to Ben!

Perfect Knighthood stuff. He could retire and then hang about the Member's Stand at Lords, and abuse and swear in the face of future Ozzie players. The done thing in 'gentile' England cricket manners these days.

You can't win (if you're Ben Stokes).

He got pilloried for declaring in the first test and he gets pilloried again for not declaring in the fourth test. I don't see that declaring earlier in the fourth test would have made any difference whatsoever to the outcome; given the way England's tail end put on so many runs and the way the Mancunian weather played out.

P.S. the sun is shining here this morning - although everywhere is still pretty sodden from the weekend rain.

Not at all.

First Test impetuous decision was super dumb - -all agree - (except Dopey Stokey -) - even ex UK Captains agree it was DUMB BEYOND BELIEF, and essentially lost that test.

Anyone SMART realises Declaring is something done with savvy. EARLY loses tests, and LATE loses Tests. He did both.

Declaring at 450 gave England a half extra day in the Field, with Australia 150 runs BEHIND right at the onset. PRESSURE right away.

Dopey Stokey - now says 'this would not have made any difference' !! No Dopey Stokey, you truly are as thick as you look - you would have had an extra HALF A DAY of extra bowling at them.

As Australia was 5 wickets down BEFORE the rains, clearly that extra half day of bowling in the dry might well have bowled us out = England win.

Absolutely no denying that, unless you are Dopey Stokey -

Even Joe The Idiot (except Dopey Stokey) could see a crappy England 'Summer' weekend of rain was occurring so the only chance England realistically had to WIN was to declare at about 450 and bowl out Australia. Never happened - ASHES LOST.

England reprinted this and rush released it last week before looking up weather forecasts. A couple of decent batting scores and they went into Delirium Mode in there. Like the entire nation.

They had the plates already, simply scrubbed off the annoying 1966 reminder at base, and at 4p you need to plaster 26 on them to mail a letter so they will get a lot of visual attention.

60 years back so almost no-one alive will remember it occurring, so will sneak under the wire.

Royal Mail will of course declare them as fakes as not printed in CHINA, and as England winning anything except for Darts Tournaments (as no-one else competes) was highly improbable, so will tax them all £2.50, as is their latest trick. Great talking points. :) and a nice 1 frame display going forward.

So, we now have a proof of all 12 proposed concept designs ready for approval by Royal Mail, nicely arranged in a handsome miniature sheet below.

Plus! Keen eyes will notice the Royal profile, pending approval by His Majesty - no more wacky woke woodcuts from him :D

Orders noted above and will be fulfilled following development of a hand-crafted cacheted first day cover (design to be confirmed following the fifth test).

Senior Citizen Anderson helped keep Australia right in it.

Early evening, playing the dark red NEW ball under lights and a gloomy sky, and our superannuated Jimmy did not trouble the ozzies.

Amazed he was selected actually, given his Ashes record so far.

So, after two days the difference between Bazball and Ozball is just 12 runs.

We’ll take that, being the greatest test team and all :D

The game set for a cracking ending, thankfully with Blanderson being handed the new ball instead of a walking stick and bumbling Bairstow the Buffoon behind the stumps all should go Australia’s way …

Okay so I had a fun couple of hours hand-crafting a set of commemorative covers replete with custom-printed cachet.

Given His Majesty’s penchant for wacky woke woodcuts for the coronation issue, it seemed the appropriate way forward.

First step carving the balsa wood plate:

So now have a limited edition print run of 12 covers to giveaway anywhere in the world to the first six stampboarders who reply here who want one! (Hand signed by me of course :D)

(Only six because Ubobo, Norvic and Glen already will receive the first three, and I shall mail one to myself, plus one to Windsor Castle and one to the Marylebone Cricket Club - aka louts of The Long Room).

One each, also featuring a Clowns of Cricket cinderella.

Tough luck Royal Mail, they missed out on the opportunity!
