2004 Luxemburg 2 Euro coin in one colour: misprint/fake/special issue?

Post by aerogi »

At a flea market when I bought something, I got this 2 euro coin in exchange:

It should look like this:

I can't find any information. I tried a facebook group that is specialised on 2 euro coins, but my post is not accepted (yet) after a few days. Anyone can shed some light on this? Or that can provide a link where I can ask my question?

It looks genuine to me, it has the exact same size like the normal version.

I don't collect coins, except the special 2 euro editions. Unfortunately, something that started of having one special coin each year that was easily to get, has now become a money making thing with limited numbers in special packages...

Maybe counterfeit?

Google tells me there are a lot of counterfeit euro coins:
"The most counterfeited euro coin denomination is the 2-euro. The German national side is most frequently reproduced, followed by the sides of France, Spain, Belgium, Italy, Austria, Netherlands, Ireland, Greece and Luxembourg."

Although not specifically about Luxemburg coins, I also found this on Reddit, and took screenshots:

(By the way, the sammler.com link in the above reply does not work.)

Why on earth would the public accept such obvious fakes in ONE colour????

The Chinese will be doing plastic ones next, seeing these clearly work!

Try this link:

http://www.sammler.com/mz/euro_abarten_luxemburg.htm

The website is not set up well. It will not accept encrypted connections (https), only plain-text connections (http).

Also, there is no DNS ‘A’ record for sammler.com, only for www.sammler.com. Having both would be normal.

This is a very popular type of counterfeit! This coin from Luxembourg turned out poorly!
I have one from France!
Gold plated! Of course nothing is gold, nor is it gilded!
These scammers offer these "gold-plated" coins - mainly 2 Euro coins - at high prices as "gold coins!
There are a few simple methods to turn a normal coin into a "gold-plated coin! The coin from Luxembourg is just poorly made!
Methods: http://rmg.zum.de/images/8/86/C8_NTG_VP_VergoldM%C3%BCnz.pdf

This is the latest trick used by fraudsters to get customers' data or: you can always find someone stupid!

The famous saying: "All that glitters is not gold" - you just need a good knowledge of chemistry!

2 euros gold plated - a miracle of chemistry - only 12.000 Euro:

On this website you can see that you can gild any coin with electroplating coins:
https://ferroinstant.com/zubehoer--hobbygalvanik--galvaniere ... ldung.html
You can also buy the starter kit immediately!
The fraudsters on E-bay who offer "golden" coins use such kits to counterfeit or gold-plate coins!
I can only warn everyone not to buy gold or gold coins on a second hand platform!
Here is the starter kit:

A bit more professional:

Any coin can be turned into "gold" - since ancient times.......
